Aj W purchased this house in 2011
Location. Location. Location! We are nestled in a small area of Kailua known as 'Enchanted Lakes'. We have a beautiful pool which offers lots of privacy, beautiful grounds to relax on and beautiful units which are a home-away-from-home. Our Akialoa Getaway is the place to take your well-earned vacation!
Our central location provides easy access to the beach (5 minute drive), Kailua-town, Sea-Life Park (Dolphin viewing), Coastal Drives and Waikiki (home to many famous tourist attractions). Our crystal clear pool is a true tropical oasis. Lush greenery and waterfalls surrounding the property makes you feel very far from the ordinary.
My wife and our daughter, her husband, two other couples and an adult friend rented the main 3 bedroom unit and the upstairs studio. It was a terrific visit. I agree with some of the earlier reviews that air conditioning in the living room would have helped. But the weather was great, the pool enticing and the owners were great. Kitchen spacious and had every machine you'd ever need. Fridge huge and washer dryer a great asset.
Can't wait to come back next year.
While our stay, we enjoyed comfortable and clean rooms, huge kitchen, very rich equipment for cooking and the air of kailua.
we can use shared athletic gym, lanai and beautiful pool. When we ate lunch boxes, which we bought from Hibachi in Kailua city, at lanai, we felt free from all urban stress.
We need a car because there are no shops and restaurants in our walking area.
My husband and I stayed here with my parents and my aunt and uncle. There was plenty of space for all of us to spread out and have dinner there almost every night - in fact the huge beautiful kitchen made us wish we had more family members around to host a party! The pool area is really lovely and just like in the photos, though in the photos you can't tell that it's actually quite deep - so not the best for small children but great for us. The gym is small with no cardio equipment, but basic free weights and plenty of floor space with yoga mats for pilates or yoga. The location is also great - while you wouldn't want to necessarily walk to the beach, Kailua Beach Park is only a 5 minute drive away and it's a perfect stretch of supersoft white sand with calm waters you can definitely swim in - just beware the Portuguese Man-o-War jellies, which apparently are pretty common this time of year and give a pretty powerful sting.
I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the sound insulation and cleanliness of a few external things. Our second night there, renters moved into the upstairs unit and we could hear every step they took, quite loudly. Still, we'd come back! Ideally with our own family members upstairs so we could freely tell them to walk softer, haha. As for cleanliness, while the entire indoor area of our unit was spotless, the hammock outside was crusted with leaves and dirt so that wasn't the most appealing, and the yoga mats in the gym were pretty dirty so we used a towel over them for exercise. Easy workarounds but they also seem pretty easy to clean between guests.
A couple of really easy improvements I'd suggest for this lovely apartment - it would be great to have more than 1 set of keys for the unit, since with 3 bedrooms it's likely that more than one couple would be staying there. A foam roller for the gym would be a great enhancement to the fitness equipment, and lastly it would have been nice to have some shampoo and body wash in the bathrooms when we got there. We didn't mind buying our own, but would've appreciated having at least a little there for our first day. But these are small things and overall we had a great stay. Thanks very much!
We stayed w our 2 boys, aged 10/12, and it worked great. Kitchen is spacious & has everything including waffle maker, crockpot, blender/smoothie maker, even some basic spices. Pool was gr8 anytime of day btwn activities. Main house has 2 bdrms on main floor, and you could sleep 1-2 people in LR.
Close to downtown Kailua + beaches, we thought Kailua beach one of the best cause of its proximity, fine white sand, easy parking + shower/bathroom facilities. If you came w extended family this would b awesome as there is a smaller 2person unit adjacent to gym, and a separate unit upstairs. The only reason I didn't rate it excellent is cause some of gear could b replaced and tv, if u care to use, is quite small. As well furnishings were bit 'tired' looking, although it was quite clean. We would come back.
I write this review sitting by the pool on our last full day at this property, and I just don't want to leave!! This home was even better than the pictures--not only was our rental enormous (easily accommodating 5 adults and an infant) but it was stunningly gorgeous. Each room is spacious and well-designed, everything is bright and clean, and the grounds are incredible...I mean, really incredible. Between the sparkling blue pool, waterfall, koi pond, amazing palapa/gazebo, outdoor eating spaces, and gorgeous landscaping, being in the backyard space feels like you're in your own tropical oasis. The house is only a 8 minute drive to the most beautiful beach I've ever seen (Kailua beach) and has super easy access to town and everything there--from grocery stores to little shops, bars and restaurants to a Macy's store...there's something for everyone. We loved the gear available to borrow at the house--it was so awesome to be able to snag a few beach chairs, a cooler and an umbrella and head to the sand without having to go out and spend $50 on gear. The linen closet was stocked with beach towels, bath towels, and extra linens, and the kitchen had a few little extra essentials as well (though you guys could use a few more bowls!).
We came here for a wedding with our newborn baby in tow, so I was a little nervous about how everything would play out. Let me say...if you are traveling with a baby, this is a great place to stay! We bought a little rock n play baby bed thing when we arrived, and it was the perfect sleeping solution for her. Best of all, being able to tote her around and let her snooze in the shape outside while we enjoyed the sunshine and the pool was awesome. Having a tranquil, quiet place to be as a family was such a treat and we hardly felt like we needed to leave the house because we had everything we were looking for (short of a beach and ocean waves!) right there with us. I will say this may not be the best place for a family with toddlers becUse the pool isn't exactly secured, but if you have non-mobile babies or older kiddos this place is divine.
Flat out amazing!! We can't wait to come back here again--it's the only place we'll ever want to stay. Thank you for an incredible experience!
We really enjoyed our stay at Akialoa Getaways. My husband and I stayed in the house and my brother and sister-in-law rented the upstairs studio suite. The house was clean and had everything that you needed. The pool and backyard are so beautiful and relaxing. You will need to have a car, but the location is within close driving distance to local restaurants, grocery stores, beaches, and beautiful hikes. (Pillbox hike) We had a wonderful time, and would highly recommend this rental.
Kailua, its a quaint little town known as the water sports capital of Hawaii, Kailua is a great place to go kayaking, learn Kite Surfing, or just lay on the beach! You can go hiking on nearby trails, or visit some of the amazing boutique shops and restaurants in Kailua town. Grab a cup of coffee in the morning at one of the many cafes, or check out one of our awesome farmers markets. Then again you can just relax by the pool outside your room We have got something for every day you are here.
