The property is part of an exclusive condominium development within the village, and commands spectacular views over the valley.
It is located within easy drives to the major tourist attractions of western Tuscany and access to the coast south of Cecina is within 40 minutes driving.
Volterra, the nearest 'main town' is a 20 minutes drive and affords a rare glimpse of Italian history, ranging from early Etruscan relics through Roman times, with passing refences to the renaissance including the Medici occupation to the present day and has appeared in the recent Twilight films. This town is a microcosm of history for those seeking to explore.
For those seeking the simple pleasure in life such as eating and wine tasting both Volterra and its hinterland offers a wide range of restaurants and bars to suit everyones taste.
The house: The house itself comprises two bedrooms on the upper floor, master bedroom with double bed and access to balcony which overlooks the valley from the highest point in the condominium. The views are stunning (I would say that of course) The second bedroom contains two single beds and access to a west facing balcony, which is a sun trap in the late afternoon. The master bathroom is finished with marble wall tiling and contains a shower, bath, wash basin, wc and bidet.
The ground floor is open plan, with the exception of the shower/toilet room. The kitchen is simple and rustic in appearance, with dining table space. The rear door opens on to a terrace and garden where it is possible to dine should this be your choice. The lounge opens onto a covered terrace area then onto the main garden area which is landscaped for relaxation. This terrace is surrounded by a selection of jasmine plants which in the evening provide a range of scents.
Wonderful, modern apartment. A good base for exploring Tuscany. Definitely need a car. Orciatico has a small shop for supplies and an ATM! We had a delicious meal cooked by Max at the little restaurant in the village. Loved the apartment and the location but not the bells ringing at night.
I am finally writing to say how wonderful our experience in this villa was in August 2010. Our family of five was excited to arrive in this hilltop village and find the breathtaking views awaiting us from our terrace and balcony. The accommodations were spacious, clean and well-appointed. I would return every year, if I could, simply to explore the region from this central point, and to return to the peaceful retreat that Orciatico offers. I cannot compliment this place enough. Thanks above all to Jill from myself, my husband and 3 children. Memories for a lifetime!
Orciatico is a tranquil and peaceful village which allows time to pass it by. The village is set in the hills opposite the hill top town of Volterra. It has a thriving community, with one grocery shop, church, and cafe with wifi. Nearby the ancient town of Volterra (20 minutes away) can be explored, with its Etruscan and Roman ruins. In the town of Volterra there are a number of restaurants and tourist attractions. Within a 75 minute drive the famous towns of Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, and Sienna can be reached with their attendant attractions. Florence, the heart of the renaissance, can reached by car and or train. If travelling by train the nearest station, is located at the town of Pontedera. The Mediterranean coast is within 40 min drive. There are a number of small coastal towns and villages which cater for sun worshipers.
