Welcome! This waterfront vacation cottage has been under our ownership since 2012. When we purchased, the goal was to keep the historical ambiance and features that had made it such a great place in the past but to continually add improvements to enhance the lake experience even more.
Among these changes have been whole-house air conditioning, a renovated kitchen including a new range, flooring, lower cabinets, lighting and also, for hot water security, a new larger water heater. Additionally, it's is now pet-friendly so you can bring the whole crew.
New features for 2016 include a partial renovation of the main bathroom and a new grill outside.
The cottage maintains its many comfortable features including a fireplace for the sometimes windy or chilly Lake Erie evenings; a historic bar room to talk and unwind (BYOB); one full bath and two convenient half-baths; a spectacular front patio right on the lake for breakfast as you welcome the sunrise (see video); have lunch al fresco; sunbathe; have barbeque for dinner and enjoy the sunset; and later, for star gazing, dreaming, and fellowship by the lake.
I'm an architect who grew up in the area and wanted a place for my far-flung siblings and family to be able to return to. But when we're not here it's a chance to share the lake experience with others.
Ted purchased this cottage in 2012
The view is incredible, and you are right on the water in this house. The open floor plan on the ground level really takes advantage of this relationship. Additionally, the bedrooms are very private upstairs and have some of the best views.
The waterfront location and convenient access to Cedar Point. Additionally, the house has 4 bedrooms and is pet-friendly.
Love Love Love this house. The owners are great. The house is laid out nicely for a vacation home. It is right on the lake. The back patio is right on the water. While you can't swim off the back because of the rocks, you can easily fish there. Great place to sit on quiet mornings with a cup o coffee and read while watching the waves. The small Rye Beach park is just a couple of houses over, and is perfect for small kids. The swimming area is protected and the beach is clean with a nice playground. With our larger family, it's just a short drive over to the Nickel Plate beach. Beautiful wide white sand. Lots of waves for the teenagers.
The house is conveniently located only a 10-minute drive from the mall at Sandusky for anything you need over there. Movie theater, shops, restaurants. We even slipped over there for a simple unexpected car repair. Very convenient. It is also only about 20 minutes from Port Clinton and Marble Head. Our family likes to do some activities over there and it is very close.
The house has a pool table, which was used quite a bit. It is worn, but functional. The bedrooms are small, but no one really spends a lot of time in bedrooms when on vacation. Plenty of restaurants in town. We hit the Bar North at the golf course as well as Berardi's. Love both. The family favorite is always the Pied Piper. We also hit the Donut Shop a couple of times for those sleeping in.
Love this place.
We were very happy upon arrival. The house was clean and cool. The best feature for us was the privacy patio out back that is literally on the lake. The house is spacious and equipped with the basic necessities. Take the ferry to put n bay island, it is a fun day trip. We would recommend this house to anyone who wants a great view and a relaxing experience.
We stayed at the Cape Cod Lakefront Cottage after July 4th weekend. It was very clean and decorated in a nautical theme throughout the entire house. Very quaint. Ted was very accommodating to our needs. Beds were comfortable but a little hot in the morning summer sun. We brought our dog also. Loved the bar to hang out around. My boys played pool also. Plenty of bathrooms for 7 of us (even though there is only one tub/shower). Lots of room to sit and play games at. The back patio has a great view of the lake, can't get any closer. We visited the Huron Lighthouse, took Miller Ferry to Put in Bay and hung out at the Nickle Plate Beach for the day. Thanks Ted, I would definitely refer my family and friends.
Our extended family of 8 met at the Cape Cod Lakefront Cottage in mid June 2016. Our experience was wonderful! The home was clean and well maintained, the main level spacious and exactly as described in the listing. Our view was spectacular and every morning was spent with coffee on the rear patio watching the waves and sunrise. Both beaches were wonderful, the neighbors friendly and welcoming. All in all the best vacation in a very long time...we will be making this an annual event. Ted was very responsive to questions and exceptionally easy to work with. The icing on the cake was being able to bring my German Shepherd on vacation and seeing how well received she was! Thanks Ted!
This is such a charming, comfortable place to vacation! It is right on Lake Erie with its beautiful ever changing colors. Plenty of room to relax with family and friends. I especially like the way the house is decorated. Thank you, Ted. My family, friends and I fell in love with this place! My only suggestion would be to add a few comfortable lawn chairs on the patio. Otherwise.....perfect! I have recommended this place to several friends.
My family had planned our family vacation at this cottage over a year ago. A few weeks before our stay at this wonderful cottage, my husband passed away. My kids, grandchildren and I decided we would keep to the plan and have our week here. I'm so glad we did. It was the perfect place to spend together. The cottage itself is so charming and there's nothing like watching the sun come up in the morning with a cup of coffee or watching it go down with a glass of wine. We even were mesmerized by a storm coming across the lake. The bar became a gathering place for the adults after the kids were put to bed. Thanks Ted for sharing this gem with us. I plan to stay here again.
Go Carts, Fishing Charters, Shopping, Nautical Museum, monuments such as the Marblehead Lighthouse and Thomas Edison's Birthplace, local winery tours & tastings, OTB Racetracks. Lake Erie islands like Put-in-Bay, Kelly Island and Pelee Island are accessible by ferry. Cleveland, with the Indians, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, museums and Horseshoe Casino is only 50 miles away. Amish country, about 80 miles away, is a fascinating day trip.
