6 Bedroom 4 bath on 7 acres, 5 miles from Pagosa Springs

Our family custom built this home, and we use it quite frequently throughout the year. We have vacationed and stayed all over the Rocky Mountains, and we love the Pagosa area for its rugged beauty, nice and unassuming people, wonderful restaurants, and (best of all?) more remote location with much less traffic than other Colorado resort destinations. We love to ski Wolf Creek, and it always has snow. There are great hikes nearby for all levels along with hunting, fishing, river rafting, and a fun excursion to Durango to shop or ride the train to Silverton. Most of all we love sitting with the family on the huge porch with the gorgeous view. We love to watch the deer and elk in the mornings as they wander across.

Our home has 6 large bedrooms, five upstairs and the master downstairs with its own private bath. The home has four bathrooms in total. We recently remodeled one of the upstairs bedrooms with bunk beds so that it can sleep up to 6 children. We remodeled every room in 2012, so there are newer appliances and many new sofas, chairs, and rugs. There are two large airy living areas, one with a vaulted ceiling oriented toward the giant dining table and the fireplace and the other with comfortable seating and a game table and big-screen TV. The porch runs across the entire front and side of the house with majestic views and refreshing summer breezes. Children can 'hike' on the property itself and explore all day. It is a beautiful home.

About Mark Newman

We are four brothers and sisters with spouses and families who share the home. Our mom and dad built it and just this year we completely remodeled it and refurnished it. Now our children's children are enjoying the place where they vacationed and played when they were children. We love to hike and golf and fish and just generally enjoy the beautiful setting and wonderful home. There is room for all of us.

Why Mark Newman chose Southwestern Colorado

Our parents wanted a place that reflected the beauty of the Creator, an area with wonderful people and lots to do, a good choice of great restaurants, easy to get to, and located on the most beautiful piece of land with views all around. They chose this lot and a wonderful builder who built it to our mom's specifications. He was delighted to get to do the recent remodel.

What makes this house unique

The home is very liveable with lots of room. We enjoy the grand fireplace and wood burning stove in the winter (though we have central heat throughout). In the summer you will love sitting out on one of the swings on the porch, enjoying the cool breeze and the occasional deer running by - or walking the grounds. Enjoy cooking out on the gas grill or cooking in the full kitchen with its completely new appliances - refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, utensils, etc. Lots of memories of football games on the big-screen TV and late night movies.

Just Adults Family Reunion

This property was perfect for a family reunion of my sisters and brother, and their spouses. The owner was always available to answer questions and returned my emails promptly. We did have a power failure while at the house during a snow storm and I called the on-site manage who arrived promptly and helped us to reset the wifi and the Direct TV box. The description and the photos did not do justice to what a perfect space this was for our group. We did have a little confusion about the check out procedures but again the owner replied promptly to my questions. This property might be difficult for a handicapped person, but it was not advertised for that purpose. We felt like we were in a very private setting since we could not see any other houses in the area. We liked the location near the very big and modern City Market grocery store at the intersection of Highway 160 and the road that leads to the property. YOu can use your Kroger card there and there was an abundance of food for purchase although on the day it snowed we were not able to buy frozen biscuits. Must be a popular item during a snow storm. Plenty of canned biscuits though. There were plenty of linens and dishes and utensils. The beds were very comfortable. Pay attention to the note about the heaters. We set it at the comfort zone and had to set lower. Heating units are very efficient and zone specific with settings for every room. We did not feel crowded as the gathering areas were more ample space. The room decor was appropriate for the area and tastefully done.

Located 5 miles from Pagosa Springs, on the edge of development close to National Forest. 7 acres to roam with beautiful views. 45 minutes to Wolf Creek ski resort. 60 minutes to Durango. Fishing nearby in Hatcher Lake (with permit). Hunting, hiking, skiing, sledding, shopping, swimming, rafting, hot air balloons, cycling, antiquing, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, miniature golf, narrow gauge train Durango to Silverton.

There are multiple hot springs soaking and spa facilities in the town of Pagosa Springs. The 'Springs' is a beautiful, relaxing resort set on the river with multiple soaking pools, a full size swimming pool, and a spa. There is a National Forest Access road near the house, with a trail leading into the forest. Williams Creek Reservoir is about 22 miles north with picnic facilities and fishing with permit.
