Surf’s Up! Is our little Florida dream come true. After years of searching for the right warm weather spot we discovered Anna Maria Island, a true “Old Florida” town with fantastic beaches, incredibly friendly people, great restaurants and shopping, and the type of ambiance we had long been trying to find. Our home, located in the coveted North End section of the island, is just a short walk to the beaches, restaurants, shopping, and all the other amenities that the wonderful spot has to offer. We have lovingly restored every inch of this gem, adding a tropical secluded paradise in the backyard, complete with a Jacuzzi style pool that is fun for relaxing and entertaining. Our goal is not just to provide a rental spot for you, but rather a home away from home that you’ll want to come back to year after year. We have found nothing to be better than spending a day relaxing or walking on Anna Maria’s pristine, white beaches and then retreating to our screened in porch area or the pool, soaking in the sun, enjoying the casual company of family and friends, followed by a short stroll to take in one of the gulf’s spectacular, breath-taking Gulf sunsets. Life doesn’t get any better than that!
Scott and Joda purchased this house in 2012
We think you’ll agree that this is a simply great find! We encourage you to read the reviews of Surf's Up from our previous guests. Anna Maria is very accessible to both Tampa and Sarasota. But once you’re there, you might never leave the little town of Anna Maria as you decompress and take in all the island has to offer. We love to walk and bike all around the island. It’s a quiet, easy walk or bike anywhere on the island, and there is easy access to just about anything you’d like to do. There are plenty of choices for dining and entertainment right in Anna Maria. About the only time we get in our car is if we want to enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants that are within a 5 to 10 minute drive in the evening or if we want to explore a bit more of what the entire area has to offer. We hope you enjoy your stay in our home as much as we do. Our name, Surf’s Up, has been used in our family for generations meaning life’s good, enjoy it! We hope you’ll feel free to call us if you have any questions (best number is 703-819-7559), as we love nothing more than to talk about and provide information on our little piece of paradise.
Completely and lovingly renovated in 2012. It is perfect for a small family, couples young and young at heart! An ideal destination for your honeymoon in Florida's Wedding Capital too! We are particularly focused on keeping Surf's Up immaculately clean and comfortable.
What a wonderful experience we had at Scott & Joda's bungalow! Exactly as shown in the photos, the home is beautifully decorated and was the perfect size for our family of 4. An easy walk to the beach and the shops on Pine, as well as to the bay, the location was perfect. Scott & Joda thought of everything in the detailed home instructions they sent to us, and were responsive to any questions we had. We are definitely looking forward to a return visit, hopefully in the not-too-distant future!
Surf's Up was exactly what we needed for us and our four year old daughter. The accommodations are very nice, the location is unbeatable, and the owners provided great customer service. We will definitely consider going back!
My wife and I recently returned from a wonderful stay at Surf's Up. The cottage was extremely clean and comfortable with all of the amenities one could hope for in a vacation rental. The cottage was located in a very quiet area on the north side of the island and was a short bike ride to the shopping on Pine St. and restaurants such as Rod and Reel Pier, Sandbar, Slims Place and City Pier. The cottage was very tastefully decorated on the inside. The pool area was nicely landscaped, although the pool deck was small.
Our experience at Surf's Up was excellent except for a couple of items. One, it was advertised that the cottage was one block from the beach. This is true, but you had to walk much farther than one block to get to beach. You had to walk down Jacaranda Dr. to Newton Lane, along Newton Lane and across North Shore Blvd. across an access area to the beachfront houses, and you were finally on the entrance to the beach. We were very thankful for the beach cart that was provided! Secondly, the ice/water access in the door of the refrigerator/freezer was broken so it was a little cumbersome having to pull out the ice cube bin for ice. Finally, we had difficulty operating the jacuzzi jets on the pool. The operating instructions were out-of-date as the pool motor controls had been updated and the air jets control handle was very difficult to turn. Unfortunately, we arrived during a weekend, the owners were out of the country and the local contact person also could not get the jets operating correctly. Finally on Monday, a pool repairman came, removed the stops on the air jets control handle and was able to get the jets working. I appreciated the fact that once the owners were contacted, they moved swiftly to have the problem resolved and stayed in contact with us to ensure we were satisfied with the repair.
These issues we encountered would certainly not keep us from renting Surf's Up again. In fact, it was one of the finer rentals we have had on the Island! However, it did cause us to lower our ranking to 4 stars.
We had another relaxing, restful, and just generally wonderful visit at Surf's Up in late September 2016. This is our family's third visit to Surf's Up and we love it a little more every year. The house is so accommodating and well appointed that you really don't need for anything, except for whatever groceries you want to bring in for your stay - so it's really just the perfect place to relax and forget about to-do lists and obligations.
While our visit was just a bit impacted by the red tide issue affecting Anna Maria, which meant the beach was not always the ideal place to be, Surf's Up provides plenty of alternatives, whether it's watching movies on the big comfy couch, sitting on the lanai reading a book, or taking a cooling plunge in the pool. And Surf's Up location is ideal given it's an easy walk or drive to Pine Street (lots of shops and restaurants) as well as the Anna Maria Pier or the Rod and Reel Pier (restaurants on both piers).
Our family of three really loves our little tradition we've started with annual trips to what we affectionately call "the orange house." It's really the one vacation we take a year where we all just relax, unwind, and enjoy our time in this beautiful home on this very beautiful island.
We had a wonderful stay in AMI at Surf's Up. It was the perfect house for a family of four. The location was great and the house had everything we needed. It was furnished to a high standard and extremely comfortable. My whole family loved it and when we return to AMI we will definitely try and stay there again and will not hesitate to recommend it to friends. Scott and Joda have done a wonderful job with the renovation! We look forward to returning.
We just returned from a week at Surf's Up. Everything was just perfect! Very laid back and relaxing. House was outfitted with everything you need. We flew, and was worried about beach chairs, umbrella, and towels, they have thought of everything. Even beach games for the teens and even adults. We are already planning our next trip to AMI.
Surf's Up is ideally located on the desirable northern tip of Anna Maria Island. A slice of old Florida, with seven miles of sugary white sand beaches, voted one of the 'Best Islands in the USA'. It showcases a tropical landscape with crystal clear waters reminiscent of the Caribbean. Anna Maria is a treasure found on Florida's Southwest Gulf Coast conveniently located between Tampa (1 hour) and Sarasota (45 mins) it is also only about 2 hours from Orlando. You'll be surrounded by warm Gulf waters; Surf's Up is located steps to the Gulf of Mexico beach and a few blocks to Pine Ave - the greenest main street in America. Anna Maria is fast becoming a hot spot for gastronomic delights. Feel free to take a walk or catch the free local Trolley to local restaurants or attractions. Some of our favorite restaurants are: Eat Here in Holmes Beach; The Waterfront Restaurant, Sandbar, Rod & Reel Pier, and Poppo's Tacos in Anna Maria. Ginny & Jane E's and Peaches are great places for breakfast and lunch. It's about a 30-45 minute drive to Sarasota, depending on the time of year. Tampa is a little over an hour. St. Petersburg is about 45-50 minutes away.
Other Activities: Zoo/Marine/Wildlife Park, boating/kayaking, basketball court, Health Spa, Parasailing, Miniature Golf.
