About Cindy Rucker

We are local newspaper owners and raised our family in the main house. We have used the studio as a rental unit up until now but decided to remodel it and use it as a vacation getaway based on the advice of many friends. We would like to meet people who might want to swap houses later as well.

Cindy Rucker purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Cindy Rucker chose Central Coast California

The Central Coast is the best part of California. Not only are we out in Edna Valley wine country we are also only 4 miles from the beach. Outdoor activities abound and downtown is full of fabulous restaurants and boutique shopping. We have had some friends visit SLO up to ten times without every beginning to do the same thing twice.

What makes this cottage unique

The space is awesome with tons of light, high ceilings and big trees. Great place to go on a long walk. Spring and summer we have fresh vegetables to offer. Plan one day of beach combing and pick up fresh ahi on the pier, plan another day for wine tasting, another day to enjoy downtown shopping and dining and a final day meandering up the coast to see Hearst Castle.

Sweet SLO Vacay

Perfect location for touring SLO, Pismo and Avila. Very clean and spacious "cottage" located off the main road. Cindy was an extremely gracious hostess. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and a tasty treat. The gas fireplace was the perfect chill spot for a.m. coffee or p.m. tea. We would book this rental again.

Long Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time visiting SLO and the Rucker's accommodations were just perfect. Quite a spacious and comfortable unit. We loved being able to fix ourselves an easy meal overlooking the patio. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils. We very much enjoyed ourselves and would not hesitate to book this rental again should the occasion arise.

It was awesome!!

  • 5 of 5

The VRBO photos are very, very nice....but in real life, the place is much better than the photos depict. There was a full bottle of wine and fresh cut flowers waiting for us, as well as other treats during our stay. The gas fireplace/furnace was lovely for a winter-time stay, so it was very nice to sip tea and rock by the fire. The kitchen was completely stocked with all the pots, pans, dishes and utensils that we could possibly need. We could have cooked Christmas dinner there! The large living room had an abundance of space that allowed my wife and I plenty of room to visit with 6 other family members and friends. When I stay at other rentals, I'm always worried about "what will the bathroom be like?" This one turned out perfect. Never ran out of hot water as well. The studio is minutes away from any and everything in SLO. And the additional bunk beds worked out well for our son to visit with us. There is parking for two cars off the street, which is a very quiet street as well. The studio is fancifully decorated with a large screen TV and available DVDs. Had it been spring, summer or fall, it would have been nice to have our meals on the fenced (and private) patio, but unfortunately we were there just in time for a rainy, winter season.....so hopefully we'll get to return for a summer season. The hosts are extremely nice, generous and helpful. We will definitely check their schedule for our next trip back to SLO, even before we book airline tickets.

The Ruckers

  • 5 of 5

We were at this VRBO for a wine weekend getaway. The location was perfect, the home was comfortable, spatious for a couple, and in a great location for outdoor activities as well as biking to the wine country wineries. The space was private, with a lovely patio area and sunset view out of the bedroom windows.

Something for Everyone

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for three months while we waited for the purchase of our new home in SLO to go through. We were making the move from the Bay Area. We absolutely loved our time here - The Ruckers truly provided us with a home. My husband, myself, our toddler son, and our dog stayed in this spacious unit together and we all fit just fine. The back patio was a great area for my son to play during the day and for us to BBQ at night. Our dog loved the neighborhood walks and our son loved getting to know the neighborhood horses. Bob and Cindy were kind enough to share fruits and veggies with us every week, and although they give you all the space and privacy you need, they are quick to answer any questions and help resolve any issues you might have. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly, but best of all centrally located! There's a farm stand on the corner where you can buy eggs, fruits, veggies and so much more. The beach is 6 miles away, downtown SLO is 4 miles away, and the wineries are pretty much across the street. The unit is outfitted with everything you could ever need - Wifi, cable, all cooking utensils, linens, etc. Just bring your clothes and some food. This place has it all, and we'll definitely be recommending it to anyone who comes and visits us in our new city. :)

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

"The Getaway," as its called by its owner, is ideally located; it's five minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo, and also five minutes from Pismo Beach and other ocean communities. Oh, and down the street, are a couple of vineyards!

Bring your clothing and any wanted foodstuffs, and you'll be all set. Virtually all kitchen utensils and supplies are provided, as well as all bathroom needs. In fact, so much thought has went into providing guests with everything they might need, there's even light-reading material located near the toilet!

Your hosts, Cindy and Bob, are totally unobtrusive-they're there if you need them - in fact, they're a great resource if you have questions about the area - otherwise, you're on your own, and won't be disturbed.

This is as closed to a home away from home that you're likely to find. I just spent a month there, and I'll be back!
