A classic mid century brick home in the heart of some of the best restaurants and night life in Portland. The comfortable home sleeps six with a sunny patio to enjoy, and peaceful yard with a giant Deodora cedar tree.
You’ll be located a block from the junction of 28th and Belmont on a picturesque residential street, with easy access to the Belmont district, 28th Avenue “Restaurant Row”, Burnside, Hawthorne and Division St/Clinton districts. If you are comfortable walking, cycling, and taking the bus you don’t need a car. The bus 15 is a block away, and takes you downtown, and to the Pearl District and NW 23rd, and connects with the light rail system (MAX), in the other direction it takes you to Mt Tabor Park. It takes about 45 minutes to walk the 2.2 miles to downtown’s Pioneer Courthouse Square along a pleasant route. Laurelhurst Park and Colonel Summers Park are each within 10 blocks. Whole Foods, Zupans, and Safeway grocery stores are all within 10 blocks.
The specifics ... this mid century duplex was designed by the architect who lived next door, for his son. The units are side by side, and sited on a peaceful 14,000 sq ft lot. The large yard provides a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. The current owners live in the other half of the duplex, and are happy to be a resource for information and advice on your stay in Portland. The home is approximately 1500 sq ft with 2 bedrooms on the main floor, each with a queen sized bed. Upstairs is a bedroom with 2 twin sized beds. The bathroom is on the main floor opposite the bedrooms, and at the base of the stairs from the upstairs bedroom. The main floor has hardwoods throughout. The living room has two couches and chairs and opens to a sunny front porch sitting area. The dining room has a table that sits six. There is a flat screen TV with network and internet TV. A stereo system hooks to your computer or MP3 player. Comcast internet and WiFi is available. There’s a full kitchen with all the basics to cook for your self but with all the fun food choices in walking distance you’ll be tempted to eat out. The basement provides bike storage, and a laundry area. There is central gas forced air heat, and central air conditioning.
Matt grew up in Portland, and after traveling and exploring, we are very happy to be home again in Portland.

This is a great spot to live, and to appreciate the best of what Portland has to offer. Once we are home at the end of the work day we can ditch our cars and walk to everything we need, great grocery shopping, seasonal farmers markets, parks, restaurants, bakeries and dessert spots, bars, and nightlife. There is more to do in our neighborhood than we have time to enjoy.
What makes inner Portland so walkable to amenities is the density. Most homes are tightly grouped with small yards. We have the luxury of large yard, anchored by a giant Deadora Cedar, allowing a place to enjoy the outside just out the back door.
We rented in mid-April while visiting to attend the first birthday of our granddaughter. Our celebration was enhanced by the comfort we experienced staying at the duplex. Great proximity to local restaurants and shops addition to being close to our family. Would definitely stay again.
My husband and I traveled to Portland to visit our daughter who had recently moved there. As soon as we saw Laurie and Matt's home for rent online, we knew that's where we wanted to stay. The location was great, close to so many restaurants and shops, yet the area was quiet and peaceful, and just about everything was in bloom, making even a brief stroll down the street an experience. Laurie and Matt are gracious hosts, and their home is spacious, bright (loved all those windows!), and has everything you would need, just like at home. There is also off-street parking, which I learned is pretty rare! I highly recommend this home for anyone needing a place to stay in Portland.
For anyone looking to stay close-in to the City but wanting a "homey" experience, this is the perfect location! Beautiful 3 bedroom duplex with full kitchen and bathroom. Washer/dryer in basement. We were out and about Portland everyday and it was so convenient to drive downtown or to Irvington, Milwaukie and Clackamas where we have family. We also were walking distance to lots of great places to eat, walked a block away to Baby Doll Pizza one night and to Cricket Cafe one morning for a birthday breakfast for my 14 year old son. Hawthorne area so close too!! Our family would definitely stay here again, it was a really comfortable stay (the beds are super comfy!) the owners live next door and were quick to respond with any of our needs! Such a wonderful 10 day visit we had exploring Portland.
My partner and my daughter enjoyed checking out all the antique, junk and thrift stores in the city, all the donut shops and some fab restaurants and cafes.
Lauri and Matt were wonderfully gracious, friendly and helpful. Their rental was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable. Would love to do it all again one day.
I rented the duplex with some friends for seven nights to attend a wedding in Portland in February. We arrived in Portland early to explore the city and do some road trips in the Columbia River Gorge and the Pacific coast. The property was simply perfect for our needs. It allowed us to spread out and be comfortable throughout our stay, and was conveniently located in the heart of the coolest part of Portland. Virtually everything we needed was within easy walking distance, including some of the best restaurants in town.
I would definitely recommend a stay at this property. The duplex is exactly as advertised, clean and quiet, and in a neighborhood that simply can't be beat.
I rented the duplex for our daughter and her family for 10 nights in December. The location was wonderful for us - less that five minutes from our home. The property was clean and well maintained. Bed linens appeared to be wonderful. Plenty of room for the kids to move around and a good kitchen too. The pictures were just as the apartment looked. They had good service and answers to any questions. Since Kassia grew up in Portland, they didn't visit many of the local restaurants - - we spent more time eating together. They were able to visit the Audubon Society of Oregon and hike a few of the trails, have lunch at the Oregon Coast, visit Multnomah Falls, ride on the Holiday Steam train. The grandkids were excited about seeing snow when they went to Multnomah Falls and again along the way to Cannon Beach. They were unable to visit the Zoo since it had to close for the day due to high winds and rough weather.
We would definitely recommend this property to friends who are visiting. A great, quiet, central location. We hope that the same property is available the next time we need to find space for guests.

Located in inner SE Portland, about two miles from downtown, and at the cross roads of the Belmont District, Buckman, Sunnyside, and Hawthorne neighborhoods, 28th Ave Restaurant Row, and near Burnside, Glisan, Hawthorne, Division, and Clinton. Restaurants, shops, and entertainment are plentiful on all these streets.
Parks are close by, Colonial Summers, Laurelhurst, Sunnyside Environmental School, Mt Tabor, and the Eastbank Esplanade are all within walking distance depending on your energy.
