About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

A classic mid century brick home in the heart of some of the best restaurants and night life in Portland. The comfortable home sleeps six with a sunny patio to enjoy, and peaceful yard with a giant Deodora cedar tree.

You’ll be located a block from the junction of 28th and Belmont on a picturesque residential street, with easy access to the Belmont district, 28th Avenue “Restaurant Row”, Burnside, Hawthorne and Division St/Clinton districts. If you are comfortable walking, cycling, and taking the bus you don’t need a car. The bus 15 is a block away, and takes you downtown, and to the Pearl District and NW 23rd, and connects with the light rail system (MAX), in the other direction it takes you to Mt Tabor Park. It takes about 45 minutes to walk the 2.2 miles to downtown’s Pioneer Courthouse Square along a pleasant route. Laurelhurst Park and Colonel Summers Park are each within 10 blocks. Whole Foods, and Safeway grocery stores are within 10 blocks. New Seasons and Fred Meyers grocery stores are about a mile away.

The specifics ... this mid century duplex was designed by the architect who lived next door, for his son. The units are side by side, and sited on a peaceful 14,000 sq ft lot. The large yard provides a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. The current owners live in the other half of the duplex, and are happy to be a resource for information and advice on your stay in Portland. The home is approximately 1500 sq ft with 2 bedrooms on the main floor, each with a queen sized bed. Upstairs is a bedroom with 2 twin sized beds. The bathroom is on the main floor opposite the bedrooms, and at the base of the stairs from the upstairs bedroom. The main floor has hardwoods throughout. The living room has two couches and chairs and opens to a sunny front porch sitting area. The dining room has a table that sits six. There is a flat screen TV with network and internet TV. A stereo system hooks to your computer or MP3 player. Comcast internet and WiFi is available. There’s a full kitchen with all the basics to cook for your self but with all the fun food choices in walking distance you’ll be tempted to eat out. The basement provides bike storage, and a laundry area. There is a high efficiency gas forced air furnace, and central air conditioning.

About Laurie and Matt

Matt grew up in Portland, and after traveling and exploring, we are very happy to be home again in Portland.

Laurie and Matt purchased this house in 1999

Why Laurie and Matt chose Portland

This is a great spot to live, and to appreciate the best of what Portland has to offer. Once we are home at the end of the work day we can ditch our cars and walk to everything we need, great grocery shopping, seasonal farmers markets, parks, restaurants, bakeries and dessert spots, bars, and nightlife. There is more to do in our neighborhood than we have time to enjoy.

What makes this house unique

What makes inner Portland so walkable to amenities is the density. Most homes are tightly grouped with small yards. We have the luxury of large yard, anchored by a giant Deadora Cedar, allowing a place to enjoy the outside just out the back door.

Roomy and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nice home with plenty of room to spread out, and amazingly centrally located in the Portland area. We were able to recuperate here after a kidney transplant at Legacy Good Samaritan, (both donor and recipient.) The owner even suggested an easy way to get to the hospital! There was plenty of room for our Care Partners also, for the time we needed them. With a fully stocked kitchen and laundry facilites, our stay was pleasant and comfortable in a challenging time! Highly recommended.

Loved our stay!

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with this home! It had a perfect location to both downtown and the Hawthorne, Stark, Belmont neighborhoods. The home was exceptionally clean and had many necessities available. The living room furniture and beds were very comfortable! Thank you so much for the use of your home. One suggestion would be a mirror in each lower bedroom as there is only one bath and a hair dryer that works better for a woman's hair. Thank you!!

Very Nice

  • 5 of 5

Very well appointed, clean with comfortable beds and well located on a quiet street with driveway parking. Central heating during Thanksgiving was a big plus kept the house warm. I will remember the available A/C for summer visits. The owners Matt and Laurie were most pleasant to work with.

Comfy, good location, lots of kitchen tools

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family gathered for a week in Portland and 5 of us stayed at this Quiet Retreat. It was close to where our son lives as well as being close to many activities in the city. The house was very tidy, it has a lovely living room with plenty of seating for our family. We like to cook and were pleased to find lots of pots, pans, knives, kitchen utensils and plenty of plates and glassware. We enjoyed grilling in the back yard and sitting outside on quiet mornings. We appreciated access to laundry facilities. The hosts were available for questions but were not in the least intrusive on our family time together. We would definitely stay again if we return to Portland.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

Really wonderful home and beautiful yard, and so easy to live in. We recently stayed for an entire month while visiting family. The location is wonderful and the house is comfortable, filled with light, very clean and uncluttered, yet comes equipped with everything needed. We have a small child so spent most of our evenings at home cooking for ourselves. The fully outfitted kitchen was extremeley useful. Our daughter loved the yard and the upstairs area with beds that was perfect when she had a sleepover. Matt and Laurie were extremely responsive whenever we needed anything, yet gave us plenty of space. They live next door so when we thought we had an emergency in the middle of the night (a false alarm--the house is very well cared for), Matt was there within minutes to address what turned out not to be an issue. It is a duplex but it feels like a standalone house.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Property is in a great location for exploring Portland, walking to restaurants, or accessing the Columbia River Gorge. Home is very clean and has everything you need. Kitchen is fully stocked, although we did not do much cooking. The library actually has books you want to read. Lots of soft large towels. Easy access to laundry in the basement. Good WiFi. Plenty of space so you do not feel like you are on top of your family.
