Amazing country side self catering cottages in Madeira Island

In Madeira Island, in the verdant parish of Camacha you can find some charming cottages, true jewels of Rural Tourism, located in an ancient agricultural property in Vale Paraíso.

Casas Valleparaízo invite all the family to experience the authenticity of country life in an environment surrounded by orchards, gardens, birds and farm animals.

Any nature-loving visitor will feel at home with us, whether he is thinking of having restful vacations or having ones filled with physical activity.

Casas Valleparaízo, which were, in their early years, supporting houses for the local agriculture, and whose construction goes back to two hundred years ago, were, in the late nineties, put to use for tourist exploration, offering its guests the genuine experience of being in the midst of country nature.

Casas Valleparaízo are composed of nine cottages, charmingly inserted in an idyllic atmosphere full of fruit trees, flowers and animals, and located at Vale Paraíso, in Camacha Village.

This rural tourism gemstone promises a pleasant experience of privacy and quietness, an escape from labour turmoil and everyday life to all nature lovers.

For those who covet a fruitful family journey, the lodge offers all sorts of fun for the whole family, with its pretty gardens and farm animals, which will undoubtedly be a source of entertainment for the children.

Casas Valleparaízo invite the whole family to experience the authenticity of country life in an environment surrounded by orchards, gardens, birds and farm animals, and we remind our guests that pets are allowed.

In a general way, the lodge is equipped with a hair dryer, lantern, refrigerator, microwave oven, electric cooker (Eira, Palheirinho, Levadinha and Campo), gas-stove (Alho, Vaquinha, Pinhas and Maçã), kettle, toaster, individual beds, bath tub and shower, electrical towel-rack, electric heating in rooms and living-rooms, and the Lodge also offers delightful garden, furnished with a table, chairs and chaise-longue for the leisure moments.

The wood for the fireplace is already available to our guests and could be paid for directly in the house. To our visiting guest families, a crib and a babies’ high chair is made available and we also provide babysitting services.

Our guests can also count on our cleaning service twice a week, the towel change twice a week and the bed linen changing once a week.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The garden is a real paradise. The Cottages are small, but very nice and cosy. All have lots of room around them, the next neighbour is far away. It's a place where you can totally relax. Our Cottage (Casa Vaiquinha) had a lovely living room with an open fireplace which we used every night. Everybody working at Casas Valleparaiso was kind and very helpful. It was also good that a big supermarket was in walking distance. One of the levada walks leads along the garden which was also very good.”

Very nice cottage

  • 5 of 5

We (two adults and a 14-year old boy) spent two very agreeable weeks in this cottage. It sits in a wild (and beautiful) garden, offering perfect privacy. Inside we found everything clean and convenient. There's a supermarket at 2 kilometers. Great base for a walking vacation.

"An address to keep preciously"

  • 5 of 5

We spent 15 wonderful days in our small hourse "Palheirinho". This charming house surrounded by a private garden offers all as a traveler in search of comfort research. Casas Valleparaizo is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation closer to nature. The house spread out over a very large area offer plenty of privacy and independence. We enjoyed the little touches of Leonor et Sofia and their extremely warm welcome.

The situation Casas Valleparaizo in Camacha is ideal. It's easy to stock in Supermarket and the small farmers' market on the village square. It's also easy to visit the island from Camache and very nice to be only 15 minutes from the pleasant capital Funchal.

House with an impresive garden to enjoy nature

  • 5 of 5

We have been at Casa Vaquinha for one month, in August, 2015. We are a couple with two children (4 and 6 years old). The house is very well equipped: 4 electric hobs, oven, fridge, micro-wave, toaster, coffee machine, hair drier, hand blender, fireplace, … There is no washer machine but you can use the one at the main house facility. We had everything we needed. It has two bedrooms at the upper floor, both with twin beds (quite comfortable) and two bathrooms (one of them with a bath at the upper floor and the other one with a shower at the main floor). The kitchen and the living room are at the main floor too. The house is surrounded by a private garden full of trees and flowers. The garden is a paradise!! There is a barbeque outside, garden furniture, and they even set a small pool for the children. We enjoyed a lot at the garden. Every morning we woke up with the rooster crowing and a peacock visited us some days. Sofia and Leornor (the housekeeper) are really friendly and helpful. They cleaned the house every two days. She even brought us fresh bread every Saturday morning. There are many trails and “levadas” nearby. Wifi signal was good. Parking is at the main house parking lot which is next to our house. We had a wonderful stay there so we recommended.

Camacha, a small village in the eastern area of Madeira can be found at just a few miles distance from Funchal. The number of its inhabitants reaches up to ten thousand, approximately.

The climate is mild but quite fresh and the average temperature varies from fifteen to twenty degrees above zero.

Famous for its Festa da Maçã (Apple Fest), Camacha is also the centre of the Madeiran Wickerwork Industry, where all sorts of furniture, baskets, hats, decoration items and kitchen utensils are manufactured. All this local craft work can be found at the Village centre, in Café Relógio. Catering and hotel management, along with the catering trade are the other relevant economical activities.

As a curiosity, it was in this parish that football was first played in Portugal, more specifically in Largo da Achada, in 1875.

Other Activities: badminton, ping-pong

  • Casa do Alho is divided in two cottages: Alhinho and Dente de Alho. If it is your interest to rent the whole cottage, for a maximum of five adults, please contact us first. It is the cottage with the largest dimensions of the entire property, having a vast lawn and being surrounded by many indigenous plants. The origin of its name comes from the fact that the cottage was, originally, the home for a family of settlers named Alho (Garlick). Traditionally, this one was the country house for the Câmara family until the central fruit warehouse was recovered for that purpose.

Notes:
Madeira Island offers, among other treats, two magnificent golf courses, specifically Palheiro Golf (2km from Casas Valleparaízo) and the Golf Club of Santo da Serra (8km from Casas Valleparaízo). Forty-five holes can be counted between these two courses, for the delight of golf players and all this sport’s lovers. Our Island acts as stage for the Madeira Island Open Tournament, which occurs every year at the Golf Club Of Santo da Serra. This region presents, to nature lovers and those who enjoy a good walk, several proposals of walks along the various levadas, that way the visitor can come across many breathtaking Madeira Island sceneries, while he is walking through the Island’s ancient water courses. Since Levada da Serra passes right through the estate, we suggest a walk towards Santo da Serra, which would represent a less than one-hour walk to the centre of Camacha village. A walk towards Funchal is another option, one which would represent a four/five hours walk to Monte.
