#7 Estate Granard on St. Croix's rural South Shore is comprised of a main house and a cottage, both of which are available for short-term rental. The Main House is 3 bedrooms and 3 baths with a spacious, modern kitchen, living area and breezy front gallery-style porch with ocean views. Sunrise on this porch is a magical experience, one you will never forget. It is the perfect spot for morning coffee, lazy afternoons, sunset cocktails and conversations long into the evening. The Cottage is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath studio with a full kitchen and its own East-facing porch.
Surrounded by 300 acres of beautiful grassland, this property is peaceful, yet an easy 10-minute drive to the shops and restaurants of historic Christiansted. Beaches, grocery stores and St. Croix airport are also just minutes away. Centrally located on St. Croix, this is an ideal spot from which you can easily head east or west, minimizing travel time as you enjoy the many beautiful beaches and historic sites of this American paradise.
We’ve chosen to keep this property as close to natural Caribbean life as possible, cooling the house with ceiling fans rather than artificial air conditioning. You will not lack for the comforts of modern life here — from WiFi to online movies. But you will also experience life at nature’s pace, simple elegance in a soothing private environment.
Barbara, Mike and Mary Walsh decided to buy the property at #7 Estate Granard in early 2011. Mike and Barbara have lived on St. Croix since 1976 and raised their three daughters here. Mary, Mikes' sister, is an Emmy-winning producer from CBS News in Washington DC and has been visiting St. Croix for over 30 years. St. Croix is a special place for the whole family.
Barbara Walsh purchased this house in 2011
This historic property overlooks some of the best preserved Caribbean landscape in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The house was built in 1967 with a Studio Cottage added later. Although we rescued the house from the bush, it's clean lines and open front porch invite you to stay awhile.
From the house one has easy access to beaches, downtown Christiansted or Frederiksted, local farmers markets, water sports, adventure tours and a wide variety of cultural events. There is so much to do on St. Croix! Art, architecture, agriculture, sports and history. We can help you find yoga class, dance class, chi gong, massage and more. The best part is to return after a day of exploring and relax at this welcoming island home.
Wonderful home and cottage with the sea breeze that accommodates multiple families at one time. Mike and Barbara were wonderful hosts and even when our flight was changed to the next day after we had been at the airport for hours she allowed us to stay an extra night and even offered to pick us up!
We loved staying at Barb & Mike's place - a gem on the south side of the island, overlooking an old sugar mill, fields of horses, and the sea. Furnished with Danish modern pieces, beautiful art, and Mike's metal works, it was fun to get to know the owners through their house, and then to get to know them as well! We definitely recommend!
Friends and I stayed for a week and wish we could have stayed for much longer. The kitchen and living room/dining are open and breezy. The kitchen is modern and well-appointed. The bedrooms are large and separated for privacy. And while it's all remarkable, the veranda is a place you'll want to sit for hours, overlooking open land sloping down to the ocean. Deer and horses wander past for entertainment and you can see the waves break from your perch. At night, the sky is huge and you'll see more stars than you've seen in a long, long time, set to the music of the surf. Lovely! Mike and Barbara are a delight and want to make sure you enjoy your visit.
We have rented the house with two other couples in February for the past 3 years and want to keep coming back, again and again. Put simply, we love everything about the house. It is ideal for 3 couples. Each couple has their own bedroom and bath, and there is a wonderfully airy and open kitchen, dining and living room area. The veranda, which spans the entire front of the house offers one of the finest views on St. Croix and, oh my, what a wonderful place to just kick back and relax. We love to swim, snorkel, hike, explore and just hang out - this house is ideal for all of that. Thank you Barbara and Mike for all you have put into this vacation retreat, for making it available to us, and for all the little things you do to welcome us and make your house special.
Our family of 5 spent X-mas week and had a wonderful relaxing and adventurous vacation. The house is lovely and well appointed with everything you need. For us, the 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms fit our needs, with closets, a safe, dressers in each one. There were plenty of bath towels and beach towels and the kitchen has everything you need and more. Barbara and Mike could not have been more accommodating, greeting us at the airport, a welcome basket of goodies when we arrived along with all the instructions we needed to get around. We took on the 7 day beach challenge and explored the island hiking, snorkeling and swimming at several beaches across the island. The beach that is a 20 minute walk from the house is a perfect sandy expansive beach with blue water and no other people in site. You can also access this beach by a 5 minute drive. The veranda that looks out over acres of grassland with horses grazing, an old sugar mill and the ocean is by far the BEST ! It is your little piece of heaven!
We love staying at this home in paradise. It's very spacious and comfortable. Great for families, couples, or Girls /Guys Getaway. Wonderful kitchen with everything you need to prepare meals. Beautifully decorated with local art. The beds were comfortable, with nice linens and towels. The porch is Wonderful! The view of the south shore and suger mill is very peaceful. The proprieters keep the place very clean and the landscape perfectly manicured. They were extreamly helpful and easy to make arraignments with. The property is secured with a large metal gate. The location is mid island making it easy to get to any part of the island that you want to explore. We loved driving to many different beaches to snorkel and visit both Christianstead and Fredrickstead. Driving through the Rain Forest is cool. The cuisine is excellent on St. Croix. This is truly American Paridise!
