About David Schroedl

La Jolla resident for 43 years. Retired La Jolla residential real estate broker. Legend status with Prudential California Real Estate. Former real estate developer. Three degrees from MIT.

Why David Schroedl chose Country Club

One of the very few redwood and glass mid-century modern homes in La Jolla. Rich redwood texture. Updated with high quality touches. Extremely high quality furniture. Super-high speed internet. Enjoy the romance of soft lighting with Lutron dimming on almost all the lighting.

Vistas or ocean views from all rooms!

Enjoy all the advantages of Apple TV including ability to view NETFLIX and all your photos and video on the 65' TV screen. Relax on the Rouche-Bobois couch and lounge chair or on the zero gravity Human Touch 'Perfect Chair' featuring tempurpedic foam. A second large screen TV is located outdoors for your enjoyment while sitting in the large outdoor patio off the great room.

JUST A GREAT PLACE TO RELAX.

For computer use, six foot glass topped 'desk' in FR with two Knoll office chairs. For dining, tables and chairs for ten (twelve when using the office chairs).

What makes this house unique

Enjoy being indoors with the feeling of being one with nature. Glass just disappears into the ceilings and many of the walls. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE OUTDOORS WHILE INSIDE THE HOME. Eight huge skylights bath the home with light while the cedar roof overhang providing natural sun control. Two of the skylights in the bathroom area are ventilating.

And speaking of ventilation, with operative sliding glass windows next to the ceiling in all rooms, catch the ocean breezes and enjoy SUPER cross ventilation. That ventilation eliminates all the hot air that typically rises to the ceiling and creates higher interior than exterior temperatures. No need for mechanical airconditioning nor is any featured. ENJOY LA JOLLA'S FANTASTIC WEATHER WHILE INSIDE YOUR HOME!

Although there is little need for it, enjoy radiant hot water heat in the floors on those cooler winter nights.

Wonderful huge patios and much lush vegetation. Extreme privacy.

Note: Door clearances are 6'2' to 6'3'.

Cool wooden house

  • 5 of 5

A great place to stay, visually fascinating, with a terrace to sit and look out over the ocean and everything you need provided. It is on a main road, so there is some traffic noise and crossing the street can be an adventure, but we'd gladly come again.

Great location in La Jolla!

  • 5 of 5

Extended family rented this home for a long weekend for a family wedding in La Jolla. We took advantage of walking to the beach, enjoying great local restaurants, visiting the San Diego Zoo, eating outside, using the hot tub and enjoying the VERY comfortable beds (matresses/comforters) in the 5 bedrooms. House is all wood / rustic. Everything you need in the kitchen. Very responsive host!

Excellent location. Perfect for families.

  • 5 of 5

Our second time to stay at this property and we have already reserved a week next year, The layout is perfect for 6 adults and 4 children. We especially appreciated the patio with seating for all and an outside tv as a bonus. The small children loved playing in the hot tub. Very convenient location for days spent at the beach. I would highly recommend this property.

Busy street dangerous for families with small children

  • 2 of 5

I want to warn families with small children that the busy street of Torrey Pines is VERY, very busy and there are 9 exterior doors that lead to the outside!! The disclosure mentions the busy street but I did not know it would be this busy or so many doors to the outside. The street noise is loud. So, we were constantly nervous our 2.5 year old was going to unlock a door and wander out into the street. If I had known there were NINE exterior doors that lead to a very busy street, we would never have stayed here. Of course, we are very vigilant parents but how do you watch 9 doors?? I was so nervous about this. David told us the street was easy to cross and while there is a crosswalk, the busy traffic does not stop for you and it is not easily marked as a crosswalk and waiting 5 minutes to cross is not uncommon. To "walk" to the beach, you would have to cross this incredibly busy street. My husband joked this street is busier than the interstate. And there is constant street noise from the busy road as several other travelers mentioned. There were no white noise machines that we saw when we there. Also, we had to ask that the floors be cleaned as we noticed the 2nd day that our toddler's feet and ours were literally black from walking around barefoot on dirty floors. David did respond and have the housekeeper come promptly, but when you are paying the high price for staying here, it shouldn't have ever happened. Also, the washing machine smells like mildew and we were asked to put the trash out a couple of days into our arrival. I did not like being asked to roll out the trash for pick up 2 days into our arrive and put someone else's trash out (from the previous guests the week before us). We have rented a lot of houses and haven't had to ever deal with the previous guests trash. As far as the ocean view, it can be seen from the kitchen and breakfast window only and there are light poles visible in the way. For the rooftop deck, the path is straight up a not well groomed hill and is treacherous for the elderly and children. It is very steep and the stones leading up to it are loose somewhat. I myself was worried about falling, so we did not go up there except once, even though the view was nice. It was too dangerous to walk up there IMO. David is nice & wants to please, but we did have some hiccups. He provides baby beds and high chairs which we enjoyed. The breeze and patio are very nice. Location in La Jolla is good too

Owner's Response: I am sorry that Mandy & her family were disappointed in their stay. We’ve always done our very best to please our guests including meeting them when possible upon their arrival & explaining how everything works & how safe & easy it is to cross Torrey Pines, all as attested to in previous reviews. We met Mandy & her family upon their arrival, spending almost an hour with them. We have had more than 200 groups stay at our property, incl many with little ones. We have probably hosted at least 75 families where 3 generations were represented. We have never had a parent or grandparent mention that they felt that the property's proximity to Torrey Pines was a safety issue. The home is set back from the street more than 100 ft & buffered from it by a huge gravel motor court & a 6-ft high hedge. The property is extremely large for being so close to the beach, over 26,000 sq feet of land, some 5 times larger than that associated with a typical beach area home. La Jolla is in a densely populated urban area. Yes, there is ambient traffic noise but no more so than that experienced in many high-rise urban apartments. The big bonuses are the exceptional architecture, the sea breezes, the wonderful sunny, private, & quiet tree-laced patios off not only the “great room” with its wall of glass but the kitchen & 4 of the 5 BRs. Ocean views are enjoyed from the kitchen, the FR, the dining area, & 2 of the BRs. With its almost 150 feet of street frontage with all underground utilities facing the ocean, I find it unusual that Mandy would mention the existence of two 20+ foot concrete street lamps that she thought detracted from the ocean view. Sweeping ocean views can be enjoyed from an upper deck reached either from a gently inclined path or steep steps. We are not sure her guests got black on the bottom of their feet but the claim that is was caused by dirty floors wasn't reported to us until almost 48 hrs after their check in. Our cleaning staff responded immediately. The mildew smell was also attended to promptly after being reported. If rolling trash barrels to & from the carport to the street is too inconvenient for guests, we are always willing to arrange for that service to be provided by others. We are thankful that 99% of our guests have been delighted with the property & almost unanimously given us 5 star reviews. None prior to Mandy have given us a less than a 4 star review. I invite you to read their reviews, relying on their impressions. David (owner)
