About David Schroedl

La Jolla resident for 43 years. Retired La Jolla residential real estate broker. Legend status with Prudential California Real Estate. Former real estate developer. Three degrees from MIT.

David Schroedl purchased this house in 2004

Why David Schroedl chose San Diego

One of the very few redwood and glass mid-century modern homes in La Jolla. Rich redwood texture. Updated with high quality touches. Extremely high quality furniture. Super-high speed internet. Enjoy the romance of soft lighting with Lutron dimming on almost all the lighting.

Vistas or ocean views from all rooms!

Enjoy all the advantages of Apple TV including ability to view NETFLIX and all your photos and video on the 65' TV screen. Relax on the Rouche-Bobois couch and lounge chair or on the zero gravity Human Touch 'Perfect Chair' featuring tempurpedic foam. A second large screen TV is located outdoors for your enjoyment while sitting in the large outdoor patio off the great room.

JUST A GREAT PLACE TO RELAX.

For computer use, six foot glass topped 'desk' in FR with two Knoll office chairs. For dining, tables and chairs for ten (twelve when using the office chairs).

What makes this house unique

Enjoy being indoors with the feeling of being one with nature. Glass just disappears into the ceilings and many of the walls. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE OUTDOORS WHILE INSIDE THE HOME. Eight huge skylights bath the home with light while the cedar roof overhang providing natural sun control. Two of the skylights in the bathroom area are ventilating.

And speaking of ventilation, with operative sliding glass windows next to the ceiling in all rooms, catch the ocean breezes and enjoy SUPER cross ventilation. That ventilation eliminates all the hot air that typically rises to the ceiling and creates higher interior than exterior temperatures. No need for mechanical airconditioning nor is any featured. ENJOY LA JOLLA'S FANTASTIC WEATHER WHILE INSIDE YOUR HOME!

Although there is little need for it, enjoy radiant hot water heat in the floors on those cooler winter nights.

Wonderful huge patios and much lush vegetation. Extreme privacy.

Note: Door clearances are 6'2' to 6'3'.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great experience. David was definitely the "Host with the Most"! He was so informative and available for anything and everything that we needed. He even brought us more flowers & orchids to make the home even homier then it was. It was the perfect layout for 3 families with kids of all ages. We thoroughly enjoyed the outside with the large flat screen tv as well as the upper deck to watch the fireworks. The location was great as we could walk to everything and where we were at first nervous about being on such a busy street as Torrey Pines, it was easy to walk across so we could walk to the beach and the wonderful town of La Jolla Shores. We absolutely loved it and would stay there again. Thanks David for helping to make our stay so wonderful.

Graduation Party to Remember

  • 5 of 5

This past weekend was my college graduation and I spent a few months looking for the perfect place to host my graduation party. I had narrowed the search down to Pacific Beach or La Jolla but immediately stopped looking after finding this place. David was incredibly nice and accommodating, even allowing us to stay an extra night upon short notice. He thoroughly walked us through the house and explained many features that may have stumped guests, like how to turn on the TV and operate appliances. The house itself is unique, completely made of wood and provides a very indoor/outdoor feeling with all of the windows. I was searching for a place with a great backyard or patio space because I wanted to celebrate out in the beautiful San Diego sun. The backyard yard had ample seating, heating lamps, barbecue, and even a flat screen TV! On top of this beautiful space there was a viewing balcony situated above the property which gave some of the bests views in all of La Jolla. The location of the house is perfect, incredibly close to restaurants, shops, grocery stores, but also is well equipped to host a party in or prepare a meal to dine in. The kitchen was spacious and modern with enough cutlery, plates, and serving dishes to feed an army in a very stylish way! Overall I was very satisfied with the location of the house and the amenities it provided. I will always think back to my graduation party and remember the breathtaking sunset from the viewing deck, the comfy beds, and the perfect outdoor space.

Better than a "home away from home" in La Jolla

  • 5 of 5

Our week at The Wood House was a great experience - marvelous design and expansive layout with state-of-the-art appliances, fixtures and electronics. Very comfortable beds, too. We enjoyed all three patios - especially the top deck with expansive views of the Pacific. We will definitely return.

Fantastic home to enjoy in La Jolla!

  • 5 of 5

As promised, the Redwood and Glass House is a wonderful home-away-from-home when visiting La Jolla, California! My sister and I took six friends for a long weekend and could not have been more pleased with our accommodations.

Customer Service. A+ The day we were set to arrive, the owner called to make sure we had everything we needed and set us up with a tour of the home from a knowledgable representative. It was very interesting to learn the historical significance of the property and how to use the different amenities.

Accommodations. A+ There was plenty of space for eight women. The bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and indoor living areas were comfortable, clean and inviting. All of the appliances are new. The TV and stereo equipment is easy to operate and worked seamlessly with our phones. The house has everything you'll need - beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, etc. The outdoor living spaces were amazing! The upper deck was a particular favorite! You can totally relax while watching the trees, flowers and amazing Pacific ocean.

Transportation. A+ Easy-peasy! We walked to breakfast at our favorite Harry's Coffee Shop, Vonn's, the beach near La Jolla Shores Hotel, to shop in the village and even to visit the seals in the cove. For other trips we took Uber easily.

Thank you for a wonderful, memorable stay! We will recommend this home to friends and we can't wait to come back!

Great long weekend in a great house

  • 5 of 5

The Woodhouse was perfect for a long weekend and could have stayed longer. The house was comfortable for 7 of us guys and we each had our own place to sleep. The views from the top deck are great and location was perfect for our group. Easy walk to the restaurants on Prospect and quick Uber ride down to Mission and Pacific Beach. The back patio is where we spent most nights watching the tv outside and grilling. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants to enjoy La Jolla and the surrounding areas.

Nice historic house

  • 4 of 5

Overall this historic house suited our family needs.

David, the owner, was responsive from the first moment we contacted him.

On arrival, he met with us, showed us around the property and how to cross the busy street where the house is located. Once you negotiate the traffic, the beach, beautiful trail with wildlife, shops and restaurants are at walking distance.

I agree with other reviewers, it can be noisy, especially during the day. With that said, we spent most of the time visiting the area. At night the traffic slowed down.

Plenty of parking space was a plus. The drive through facilitated entering and exiting the property.

The heated floors kept the house warm and cross ventilation was achieved through the transoms.

The beds had quality mattresses, pillows and linens.

The highlight for our family was the enclosed patio where we spent most of our evenings. The TV was replaced the morning we arrived. It was fun to grill and watch sports at the same time. The tables comfortably accommodated 12 people and the heaters kept us warm.
