This lovely house was one of the first properties we discovered in the beautiful village of Flushing. One of four character cottages gathered together just a short stroll from the waterfront, The Blue House once used to be part of a chapel and is now an impressively furnished three-bedroom home with a contemporary, seaside feel.
If you are looking for light, bright, spacious holiday living with a luxury edge then this is for you. The owners have put great deal of thought into the fixtures and furnishings used throughout the property and it is clear that there has been no compromise on quality. Tastefully decorated throughout, The Blue House boasts natural polished wood or Cornish slate flooring combined with fresh white painted walls and hints of blue picked up in the cosy soft furnishings and tasteful pieces of art carefully positioned around the property. Clever details such as the fishermen’s lamps, wooden sailing boats and pebbled bathroom tiles all add character and enhance the seaside theme.
Perfectly suited to families, this generously proportioned house has a large, open-plan living/dining room which is accessed through a bright, welcoming hallway laid with a grey Cornish slate floor. The perfect space for lazy evenings or fun family games, this lovely room has some beautiful character features such as the detailing on the stone wall and the cosy wood-burning stove with stone mantel. An extending oak dining table seats six on comfortable leather chairs and a high chair is provided for young children. Should you wish to spend an evening or two indoors then you will be spoilt for choice of entertainment: The owners have thoughtfully equipped the living/dining room with a flat-screen television, a DVD player and a comprehensive DVD and book library. Complimentary high-speed broadband Wifi is also available.
The kitchen is located to the back of The Blue House and, again, has been very well equipped to comfortably cater for families. Following the seaside theme, this sunny room has white walls and feature vaulted ceiling, contrasting beautifully with the soft blue of the pretty painted cabinets and the grey Cornish slate floor. A table and chairs offers the perfect place to sit and chat while you take it in turns to cook. Built-in appliances such as a dishwasher and washer-dryer take the strain out of catering, allowing you as much time as possible to relax and make the most of your surroundings.
If you prefer to dine al fresco, then you will make full use of the courtyard at the back of the property. Tastefully decorated to give the space a Mediterranean feel with clever planting against white-washed walls and a well-proportioned table and chairs, this provides an ideal spot for a quiet drink after the kids have gone to bed.
Two of this property’s bedrooms are located on the first floor. The main bedroom to the front of the house boasts a king-size bed and is subtly decorated in whites, blues and neutral tones. To the back of the property is the first of the two twin bedrooms, well equipped with individual bedside cabinets and a wardrobe providing useful storage space. The nautical theme of the rest of the house is echoed here and, as with the other bedrooms, the floor is laid to polished wood. A family bathroom is also found on this floor. A clean, contemporary look has been achieved with a white WC and deep bath with shower attachment, white tiles with pebble detail and contrasting chrome fittings and Cornish slate floor. Towels and soaps are provided for your use.
Two further guests can be comfortably accommodated in the impressive loft bedroom. Located on the top floor of this village house, this light room with twin beds boasts interesting views across the rooftops towards Falmouth and a useful en-suite shower room with WC. Quality bed linen is provided throughout the property.
All parking in Flushing is on-street and free of charge, and guests will usually be able to find a space outside the house or close by without too much difficulty. In addition The Blue House has a reserved parking space approximately 350 yards from the property should it be required.
The Blue House has been carefully designed to create a welcoming yet contemporary space in which you can relax and enjoy precious seaside memories in 5-star surroundings.

The Blue House .
The Blue House was a pleasure to stay in and was very well equipped. The one thing the kitchen lacked was an empty cupboard or two to put ones food stores as they are all full of kitchen equipment.
The other downside to staying at the Blue House was the parking! despite having a dedicated parking space, which was a long hike up the hill at the end or beginning of the day, one had to take the risk of a parking ticket. We managed to clock up two during our week's stay along with a rude note from someone on the windscreen. There is no real answer to the parking problem in small harbours like Flushing. I sympathise with the locals but for loading and offloading its difficult.
Apart from that we had a very nice time.
If I am honest I found this review very unfair. The kitchen does have a cupboard for food, its located in the corner and so is quite large - I can only assume you missed it? The dedicated parking space is a 3 minute walk at the most, not exactly a long hike? It feels to me that you just feel you need to make negative comments. You state the house was well equipped - if we took some kitchen equipment I presume you would have said the house was ill equipped? If we did not offer a parking space I presume you would have commented on that? My advice would be to see things in a more positive light!
Beautifully renovated house in a lovely village
Super-impressed with this house. Lovely decor, quality furnishings, great location in a lovely village, reserved parking space was a bonus. Would not hesitate to rate 5 Star - we loved it!
Definitely a 5 Star property!
The Blue House exceeded our expectations in every way. The location was superb – Flushing is a really unspoiled Cornish village yet just a hop across the bay on the ferry from the more commercialised town of Falmouth. The ferry incidentally is great fun!
The house was spotlessly clean and extremely well presented – the 5 Star rating from Visit Cornwall was well deserved and the owners are obviously keen to maintain that standard throughout, as when we visited just before Christmas it had been re-decorated throughout and it was absolutely pristine.
High specification kitchen, two lovely bathrooms and comfortable beds made for a perfect stay, and the efficient central heating complemented by the wood burner kept us toasty warm.
Well equipped for self-catering, we loved it here – the best holiday house we have rented by far, and there have been quite a few!
The Blue House Flushing
We arrived at the Blue House after our journey from the West Midlands with our 2 children aged 9 and 14 and our cocker spaniel Maisy. We entered the Blue House and were amazed at the cleanliness and standard of furnishings and appliances. Stuart has an exceptional eye for detail and the property was what you expect to see in a Homes and Garden brochure. Children loved PS3 and the films available. The log burner was perfect for those chilly summer evenings watching films with a glass of wine!
The setting of Flushing was an idyllic getaway from our busy lifestyles. Perfect for crabbing off the quay! Use bacon for bait. We caught over 100!!! We went on a scenic coast walk to Mylor, perfect with children and a dog. Upon arriving, we had lunch at Castaways Bistro which was excellent and not too expensive also dog & children friendly.
We jumped across to Falmouth on the ferry and walked to Pendennis Castle. Wished the ferry would operate later into the evening! But a Wonderful day! Falmouth has a variety of shops including Animal & Fat Face. Rick Stein Champagne & Oyster Bar by the Maritime Museum was fantastic!
All in All Great Holiday. Weather brilliant. Courtyard garden ideal for dog and a great suntrap. Perfect holiday in Cornwall.
The Perfect Retreat
We have just returned from a fabulous week at the Blue House. Living in a large city, driving in to Flushing Village felt like we were entering a different world...picture postcard gorgeous! Having rented privately owned holiday homes on many occasions, I am all too aware of how the reality of a property can differ hugely from what is promised in the marketing blurb! Not this time...the Blue House was fabulous! The location of it was fantastic and the house was too! The owners have obviously spent a lot of time and money in making the property a 5* holiday home and it shows with top quality modern fittings & furnishings. The character of the property hasn't been compromised though and it has a lovely, homely feel to it.
We were fortunate to have a week of glorious weather whilst we were there and the courtyard at the back of the house was great, having the sun from early morning right through to early evening.
Flushing itself is lovely & the food at the Royal Standard, Seven Stars & the Quayside Cafe are all to be recommended (all dog friendly too). We spent a couple of evenings sat out in the sun chatting to the locals over a shandy or two(!) and everyone we met was extremely friendly.
Falmouth via the small ferry was a good day out and there are so many lovely walks in the area, which makes it a great....(make sure you walk to Pandora's Inn - an amazing thatched pub serving great food).
In summary, I would say do not hesitate to book this property - I guarantee you will not be disappointed!
Our superb Blue House Holiday.
From the moment we set eyes on the Blue House in Flushing is was obvious that we were going to be in for a real holiday treat. Open the front door to be greated with a fantastic modern seaside feel. The recently re-furbished property offers a real seaside feel inside from the excellent choice of decor and fixtures and fittings, beautifully comined with modern appliances such as sky plus, plasma television and modern kitchin appliances. The upstairs of the property wasjust as impressive with clean bright bathrooms on 2 levels, with a superb shower on the top floor. All storage space was clean and accomadated all our requirments. The beds were very comfortable and the beddings continued the seaside feel whilst being great quality and clean and fresh. We slept like logs. Customer service from the owner was excellent from the booking of our holiday, to the instructions to collect the keys. The house is the perfect holiday hideaway whist being 2 mins away from the harbour, shops and fantatic local pubs.
Flushing is said to be one of the warmest villages in the UK because it has an idyllic sheltered south-facing aspect, between the banks of the Penryn River and Falmouth Harbour. Flushing has an unrivalled mild climate, streets lined with picture-postcard traditional terraced fisherman’s cottages, and beautiful unspoilt surrounding countryside. There is also easy access onto some of the best sailing waters anywhere in the West Country, with the Helford River, the Fal Estuary, Falmouth Bay and Mylor Yacht Harbour all within reach. Flushing has a Sailing Club that welcomes guests, and it’s own dog-friendly beach. Flushing has two friendly pubs - The Standard, which was recently renovated and offers excellent food, and The Seven Stars, a more traditional pub with an equally extensive menu. There is also a bistro located on the quayside. Many Cornish villages have become over crowded with tourists, but Flushing is much quieter, even during peak season.
