About Jacquie C. Walker

I have owned this property for 30 years and converted the barn for a Bed & Breakfast which I have operated for 13 years. It has been very popular and has enjoyed a good reputation as well run and a unique property for a weekend stays. But now is the time for me to retire from the daily work of a B & B and this outstanding historic barn is being offered for rent as a vacation rental to families and friends.

Jacquie C. Walker purchased this barn in 1984

Why Jacquie C. Walker chose Pennsylvania

We bought this property because of the historic significance of the barn and being located in the heart of Bucks County, PA. where we could stable our horses and enjoy a country life and take in all the activities of the area.

What makes this barn unique

The setting of this property is beautiful and in addition to the barn it has a very nice stable for our horses and an 1800 stone farmhouse, all on the same property. Staying here gives one the feeling of a true farm with its outbuildings and pastures.

Appalling experience with owner

  • 1 of 5

We rented this property to house our bridesmaids and groomsmen in the run-up to our wedding and also as a place to hold an informal rehearsal dinner of around 30 people. While the facilities were lovely, the experience with the owner was horrible. We were a quiet group but were harassed constantly by the owner who was on the premises despite telling us that we would be there alone (to that end, we were also explicitly told that we would have exclusive access to the pool area which was also untrue). We were really upfront with the owner as to the intent of our stay: I told her on the phone that there would be around 30 people coming for a rehearsal dinner. 30 people did ultimately come and yet the owner accused us of hosting many more and also misinterpreted the event as a wedding (I think because I was wearing a white dress). She coaxed me and my husband out of the rehearsal for the express purpose of yelling at us on what she presumed to be our wedding day. I cannot think of anything that more clearly illustrates the hostility that accompanied our interactions with her.

The other person presiding over the property said that there are more raucous and larger-scale parties all the time at that estate— it’s just that the owner typically isn’t present. We tried everything in our power to accommodate her unexpected presence, even staying away from a wing in the house where we were told the sound of loud conversation might bleed into her space. We kept music down and muted our conversation on the balcony. Still we were constantly harassed, despite this being advertised as a private, rural rental.

And, yes, to answer your next question: the owner kept our deposit. And she waited until the window had closed on our opportunity to initially write a review (we were on our honeymoon) to write her 1-star review of us. She didn’t have any constructive feedback for us, she just wanted to blow up our VRBO account. She just wanted us to get off her lawn. And don’t worry-- we got called harassed on our honeymoon too for good measure.

Regardless of whatever her feelings were of us, I have 30 witnesses of all ages who can attest to the sourness and disproportionate hostility we faced that whole week and, especially, on the day she thought was our wedding!

If you’re looking for a private, low-key rental, this is not your place.

Fantastic Place!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this place for us and our out of town family coming to the area for our son's wedding. It was a perfect place to visit, relax and enjoy the weekend. We also rented the studio for the rehearsal dinner and it was so PERFECT. Jordan, the property manage, could not have been more helpful. In the two weeks leading up to the wedding he responded to my questions in a VERY timely manner and if he didn't respond w/in 15 minutes he apologized for the delay! The location is close to lots of things while seeming to be away from it all. We had the wedding party back on Sunday morning for breakfast before we checked out.

I would highly recommend this place for family reunions or gatherings. It would be great for a girls weekend or several couples.

Great Place for a Reunion

  • 5 of 5

The pictures dont do justice to just how comfortable and spacious this property is. The large great rooms and associated lofts are only a small part of the experience. The kitchen is large and off from the main barn, keep walking and you get to what I can only call the B&B wing. The bedrooms are connected but removed enough from the main areas allowing for people to sleep while the party goes on in the main rooms.

The details in the choices of decorations and furniture complete the look and feel of upscale lodge from a hundred years ago.

Jordan the property manager was fantastic. He was available when we arrived, had answers and directions for us for what to do in the area, took care of any questions or thing we needed promptly and was a pleasure to interact with. All the things that make a getaway feel like a vacation. Too many places make you feel like you are in their personal house, this is run like a real vacation spot, Jordan made that possible for us.

Every stay cannot be perfect. This is a real review.

• Quick response to any questions

• Ability to check in early

• Space

• Bathrooms for each bedroom

• Air-conditioning in every room

• Ability to each lunch outside

• One of our friends found a nail in her bed; it likely fell in while laundry was being done, but still important to note

• The kitchen, though a nice size, is not fully functional. The top drawer of the dishwasher is literally held together by duct tape. The stove needs a few minutes to really get going and you get a mixed bag of utensils and tools overall.

Just be sure to read the rules and when you check-in, ask for “the book” which will show you pictures of how the place should look when you leave. Apparently we moved some furniture and didn’t put it back per the book’s standards (note, we were never shown the book). The cleaning fee does not mean you can leave mess, in fact, if you leave any mess, you will not receive your full deposit, so clean up!

Owner's Response: This review is in response to the fact that these guests shot off large illegal fireworks on the property and left the barn in a mess. . They told my assistant that the fireworks were small and when he heard them he informed them to stop. They left a mess in the kitchen, they re-arranged all the furniture in the common areas. They were informed of the rules when they checked in. We charge a cleaning fee to clean the barn and it takes over 6 hours because it is over 5,000 square feet. We do not clean up after guests. When we have to clean up all the counters, wash all the dishes and pots and pans, take the trash out to the trash bins, and then put back all the furniture in place, it takes much longer and we have to charge for that. The dishwasher works fine. We did a temporary repair on the racks that slide until a part that has been ordered arrives. The kitchen is a full kitchen with everything you need to serve meals. We have had guests use the barn for rehearsal dinners, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas parties and all of them found the kitchen to be just fine. There was not a nail in the bed . We heard nothing but positive comments from these guests until they vacated and we found the mess they left and we had to deduct charges from their deposit. We work hard to make this a great place to stay and we provide the best service possible. We want our guests to enjoy themselves and these guest did just that. But they just left a mess and thought it was OK. Other guests in the past have not left the barn this way and were very pleased. We just had guests check out today and they left the barn in the same condition they foun d it when they checked and were very pleased with everything. So please read the other reviews from other guests who have stayed with us. ........Jacquie Walker, Owner (since this guest left, there have been two FIVE star reviews. Please refer to them and disregard this review which is nothing more than sour grapes)

Beautiful barn in rural Bucks County

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated a graduation last weekend at the Barn. Our experience was better than we had expected. The venue is stunning in its historicity, and all our guests enjoyed touring and examining all the artifacts on premises. The owner and her on-site representatives were extremely accommodating, providing instructions on the location and operation of all the things we needed. The fans and air conditioning kept us quite comfortable despite the 90 degree heat. We seated and fed thirty guests quite comfortably, and the fourteen overnight guests enjoyed their rooms which were well appointed. The outside landscaping is lush, though a bit overgrown at this point, and we all enjoyed walking to the pool and around the exterior. The "do's and don'ts" were clear and reasonable, so we knew exactly what was expected. The only minor negative was the need to be out by 11 though the management was reasonably flexible on that as well. All in all, it was a great experience and we would definitely recommend it to anyone. Thanks and kudos to Ms Walker for providing a wonderful experience for us, and more so for the astounding accomplishment of converting Pearl Buck's barn and preserving a beautiful piece of Bucks County. It truly needs to be seen and experienced by everyone.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the nice review and kind words. We are very happy you enjoyed yourselves so much. Due to the extensive amount of rain in the spring, the landscaping got ahead of us and I dd not return until later to help Jordan with it. It is now in shape and we are all ready for the summer season. The 11 AM check out is because if we have a check in that same day, we need to get started early in order to clean the premises as it is very large and takes 0ver 6 hours to clean it and get it ready for the next guests. If we do not have a check in that same day, we can extend the check out time and we are appy to do it. Preserving this wonderful barn was a lot of work but when we have guests like you who appreciate it so much, it makes all the hard work worth it !Please tell your friends about us and we look forward to having you back again(maybe for a holiday get together???) Best, Jacquie Walker

Located between two parks with lakes, six miles to Doylestown that has 4 museums, an 12 miles to New Hope and Peddler's Village. A great country location close to all major attractions. The barn can only be used for the number of guests that is booked on the reservation. Day guests are welcomed but not over 8 people. If the renters want to have a dinner, an event, a party for more than the people who are staying overnight, then the studio will have to be rented for that event. The cost of the studio is $400 for 5 hours plus tablecloths, etc.
