Newly Built Spacious Studio Opening Directly To The Garden.
This peaceful and quiet hidden gem of a studio is perfectly situated in the heart of the city. We're located in the bustling Castro district only a five minute walk to Market and Castro -- a convenient and fast transportation hub with Muni underground, trains and buses. Downtown is only 10-15 minutes away. It's possible to travel directly from SFO by Bart with only one transfer at Civic Center to the Castro Street Muni Station. You won't need a car to get around -- most of our guests enjoy the city without one -- but if you do drive, parking is easy and free on our block.
The Castro is a friendly neighborhood with well cared for classic Victorian and Edwardian buildings, parks, cafes, restaurants, small groceries, shops and the venerable Castro theater. Although it is a flat walk to transportation and Castro street shopping, we have lots of hills nearby with hidden staircases and wonderful views. Start your day with a walk to Tartine Bakery on Valencia for croissants & coffee or up to Twin Peaks for the views. We are perfectly situated next to some of the city's hottest restaurants -- walking distance from the Mission, the Valencia Corridor, Duboce Triangle, Hayes Valley, Lower Haight & Noe Valley
This studio apartment was newly built in 2012 at the garden level of a renovated 1907 Edwardian. Accessed through a side door and corridor to the back, it's great for folks who prefer not to climb a lot of steps. It's a spacious 440 square feet with 9' ceilings, hardwood floors, recess lighting and Anderson sliding doors to a patio and shared garden.
We've set up the apartment for the way we'd like to live if we, family or friends were to stay there for weeks at a time. The sitting area has a comfortable couch and chair, a 32' LCD TV w/cable and DVD, the fabulously comfortable king size bed has lots of great pillows and high thread count cotton sheets. There are bathrobes in the closet and the tiled bathroom is equipped with a hairdryer, bath products and lots of room for your things. Upon request, there is a single mattress for a third person and for our smallest visitors a travel crib or child's cot.
The kitchenette with refrigerator, convection microwave, induction burner, toaster oven, coffee maker, tea kettle, rice cooker and crock-pot, etc. has everything you'll need to eat in when you're not in the mood to take advantage of numerous restaurants nearby. There is a supermarket three blocks away and farmers' markets all over town.
Your hosts, Jan and Wandralee, are happy to direct you to neighborhood cafes & restaurants, interesting places to walk or bike, and all of the wonderful amenities San Francisco has to offer.

About Jan Medina
I've lived in San Francisco for almost 50 years and can't imagine ever moving. I still appreciate the parks, museums, cultural activities, great food and being able to walk everywhere. I'm a bicyclist, avid reader, traveler, mother of two grown daughters, grandmother, scuba diver, ceramist, Realtor and work for social change. My partner and I love spending time with friends, enjoying a walk across town, and hosting travelers from around the world.
Jan Medina purchased this Studio in 1992
Why Jan Medina chose The Castro
I moved from the Mission district to this wonderful 2 unit Edwardian about twenty years ago because it's both quiet and only a few blocks to the center of everything. I love that I can walk to Muni-Metro (which connects to BART) in five minutes and get anywhere easily and quickly -- it's one of the easiest places to catch a bus, train or taxi in SF. Although street parking is fairly easy, in 2011 we raised our building to put in a three car garage. At that time we built out a new large studio at the garden level.

I often walk to Tartine on Valencia for croissants & coffee or up to Twin Peaks for the views.

Such a perfect cozy space in SF
We had an amazing stay in this quaint little studio. We stay in SF often because my brothers both live in the city and this was hands down our favorite neighborhood. The studio was quiet and private. The garden was beautiful and TO DIE FOR. We had an incredible and easy stay and would definitely come back.

Adorable studio home! It had everything we needed for our 3 day stay.
The place was immaculate. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great and we had lots of fun taking pictures of the flowers in the garden. There were three of us sisters so we used the fold up mattress as well. She slept very well on it. All in all, we were very pleased and enjoyed our stay. Thank you, Jan.
A super cute and cozy place to rest our heads!
My husband and I stayed at the garden studio for our honeymoon trip to San Francisco. The garden is absolutely gorgeous and so is the studio. Hardwood floors, a great TV, radio, kitchenette, huge walk-in shower, simple parking, comfy king-size bed, and an excellent location for going anywhere in town! We went down the street to the grocery store and had several meals at our little cozy home away from home. So much better than a hotel and great non-intrusive hostesses! Book it!
Great studio! Had everything we needed.
Jan was a great host. We felt we could ask her anything. We enjoyed the Castro neighborhood which is well served by public transport, a must for us. The bed was super comfy and the beautiful garden out back delighted us.
Beautiful and Peaceful Refuge
I stayed at Jan's while attending a large conference in Union Square. Jan's place was close to everything, while also far away enough to be very peaceful. I am a female and was traveling alone, and I really valued how safe this location is. Jan has stocked the studio full of everything you could ever need. It feels more spacious than the photos show. I can't wait to come back.
Oasis in the City
This was our second stay at the Garden Suite and we loved it as much as the last time, if not more. We actually extended our visit to be longer, remembering what a great time we had last year.
First and foremost - the bed is so comfortable.
Second - the location is perfect for transportation, restaurants, bars, and grocery store.
Third, but not least, the hosts are warm and charming but do not impose themselves during your stay.
These are just but a few items that made our stay feel like we came back to our home away from home in San Francisco.
Thanks Jan and Wandralee - we look forward to seeing you next year!
Close to several of SF's hippest neighborhoods including the Castro, Duboce Triangle, Lower Haight, Hayes Valley, Mission Dolores and the Mission, the Fillmore, Civic Center with Opera, Ballet, Symphony etc.. Use one of our bikes to ride to Golden Gate Park or around the city.
