About Laura

Ciao from Laura e Fulvio.

Before to be home owners, We are travellers; We love getting to know new places, in trying new foods and learning new customs. We love meeting new people and learning how our cultures are alike and, even better, how they are different.

We are exprienced home exchangers and as our exchange time is limited, We started to let our apartment using the same spirit of home exchange: to give hospitality to a friend.

Laura purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Laura chose Florence

This is our only property. We love it, We remodeled it as We have had to live there. We put inside all the things We would like to find when we are abroad in vacation: books and dishes, DVDs and air conditioning, paintings and music.

We choose this apartment to buy some years ago, because it is inside the historical center of Florence but in an area less crowded by tourists and still lived by the Florentines, Oltrarno.

To stroll around Oltrarno old streets wiil give you a unique experience of real Italian life.

What makes this apartment unique

This a building of XV° century, builded to host the workers of Cathedral and Brunelleschi famous Dome.

The original cotto floors and the wooden ceilings give to the apartment a unique charm.

Great apartment and location

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is as good as the pictures, maybe even better. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay and then some. The neighborhood is also great as it is out of the hustle and bustle of central Florence. You are living among the locals and feels like home. There are dozens of great restaurant choices, bakeries, markets, artisans, etc. The service from landlord was excellent. They responded away any time we asked questions or needed help. We highly recommend this apartment.

Check in and check out was painless. Good bed, great bathroom and kitchen, Comfortable sitting area. The market at Santo Spirito is great. Easy access to everything the city has to offer. Florence is a great walking town and this apartment allows you to get everywhere you want to go with an easy walk.

8 Days in a Florence Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was exactly what we were looking for. When my wife and I travel, we try to rent apartments in neighborhoods where the local residents live and work. We try to walk lightly, not draw attention to ourselves, and blend in with the neighborhood. During our stay, we were lucky to develop mutual friendships with our local bakery, gelateria, and favorite trattoria.

Laura's apartment is in Florence's Oltrarno neighborhood. It's south of the Arno River and the popular tourist attractions. However, you can easily walk to practically attraction in the city from the apartment. Be prepared to get lost every day in Florence's streets and alleys. Try not to get frustrated. Whenever you get lost, you invariably find an artisan, bakery, cafe, church, sculpture, or something that you never expected. Treasure it.

The apartment is also within a 1-2 blocks of very good bakeries, trattorias, and an outdoor market. It met all of our needs. We like to eat breakfast at home, sometimes lunch, and maybe 1-2 dinners. The apartment is outfitted to support eating in or out. Both Laura and her Manager, Sibilla, are very responsive and great to work with. Like all things in life, choices mean tradeoffs. Florence is a real city with real traffic, noise, and tourists. If you stay in a lively, vibrant city like Florence, please don't expect peace and quiet like a place in the country. Bon viaggio!!!

Good base for seeing the sights in Florence

  • 3 of 5

All the "big things" (stove, dishwasher, fridge, shower, good clothes washing machine) worked well and the property is in a very good location for easy walking into the many attractions in Florence. It is close to Santo Spirito, with its daily market and many small cafes. The bedroom is on the street side of the apartment and we had to close the shutters and window and use ear plugs and the air-conditioning to sleep. Most of the noise is from motorcycles and I imagine is common to every neighborhood in Florence. It was quiet from about 3 am to 7 am. Also, in north America the second floor is usually one up from the ground; here the second floor is two flights of very deep, very steep stairs up from the street entry. This was noted in the description, but it is a tough climb, so be warned. I felt like the owners had probably not lived in this apartment for some time because lots of little things, which you would notice and fix if you lived there, were broken or not working. These didn't detract much from our enjoyment of the apartment though and we liked our stay in the Oltrarno. Our two requests (for clean sheets and towels for our second week and a functioning corkscrew) were quickly fulfilled by Sibilla, so no complaints there. Excellent location, needs a little attention. Grazie.

Wonderful location and apartment!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed in this apartment for 6 nights. We loved the surrounding area as it was less touristy and more local living. Everyone knew each other in the restaraunts we frequented, that were just around the corner from us. It is close walking distance to the heart of Florence, but then you come home to a cozy little apartment that feels like home. The stairs are very steep to get into the apartment, but other than that, we were very happy with the apartment! Laura was very easy to work with and she arranged to have Sibilia to get us into the apartment when we had travel difficulties and our arrival times changed. Thank you so much for everything! Sincerely Kelly and Marc

Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

My 9-year-old son and I just spent a week in Florence at this lovely flat and had a wonderful time. I cooked several meals--well-stocked kitchen and easy to buy groceries nearby, and balanced cooking with great meals at restaurants within a 5-15 minute walk. The flat is in a more quiet part of town but easily accessible on foot to all the historic sites and museums in Florence. We liked being removed from the thick of things, but still oh so close. Laura and Sibilla were great!

Car: not necessary

The apartment is strategically positioned in the historical centre, on the left side of Arno river in the famous quarter 'Oltrarno', ideal to visit Florence by feet, and enjoy the 'real' Firenze.

In Oltrarno there are monuments, gardens, museum, historical palaces unique in the world: Pitti Palace, Santo Spirito Square, Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge), Boboli Gardens.

But the wonderful history of Florence lives on in Oltrarno, not only thanks to the so rich historical and artistic heritage, but also in the daily life: in the many restaurants and cafes mantaining the typical athmosphere, in the artisan workshops carrying on a century-old tradition of both spirit and working methods.

At short distance, accessible with a walking promenade, you'll find all the wonderful places that make Florence so famous all over the world: Uffizi Gallery, Piazza della Signoria, the Dome and Giotto's tower.
