We had a fabulous time at Trulli Martina. Our host were amazing, welcoming and generous. It is the best communication we have ever had, any question before, during and after our visit was responded to almost instantaneously. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and our kitchen had been stocked with everything imaginable and so much more including milk, fresh eggs and cheeses from the farm, bread, jams, coffee, tea, spices, herbs, onions, biscuits, yoghurt to name but a few. Everything you could ever need in a holiday home and more was provided from washing machine (including washing liquids), dryer, Satellite TV (you can even change the settings to hear the original program's language), barbecue (including charcoal and lighting stuff) and enough towels and sheets to stock a small army. We were invited to visit the farm and were brought hot croissant (cornetti) for breakfast on our first morning and given prickly pears and freshly picked figs and then a platter of regional pastries on our last day for our journey. There were plenty of leaflets and maps and some really helpful information on where the banks, cashpoints (bancomats), supermarkets, post offices and markets were to be found.
It is a great place to base yourself to discover Puglia as it is very central. Martina Franca is large but the medieval part of the town is spectacular. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, cake shops, bakeries and great clothes and shoe shops. There is also an enormous market every Wednesday. Probably the largest I've ever seen that takes up many streets and a large square. You can find everything from an umbrella to a chest of drawers, artisanal breads to fabulous fresh fish.
Locorotondo, the circular town on a hill about 15 mins drive away is well worth a vist. Amazing views from the top all the way around overlooking the valley of trullis and vineyards is a perfect spot to watch the sun go down. It is apparently the prettiest town in Italy! No stay in Puglia is complete without a visit to Alberobello or Hobbit Town as we called it.
A truly(li) exceptional experience in every way from the quality of the holiday home, the hosting and the beauty and diversity of the region. It is outside of the town so a car is definitely needed, but if you are looking for a 'real' Italian experience and want to live like the locals then this is the place for you. We have no hesitation in highly recommending this property and will also be telling all our friends about it.
We stayed in Trullo Rossini which was really comfortable with all mod cons. We were provided with home made cheeses, some eggs and vegetables. Tomasso's mum stopped by with pastries first morning.
Location of trullo is about 5 km to Martina Franca, car is essential. Tomasso provided lot of tips where to go and booked restaurant.
Would recommend. Just a note, electricity is paid extra. We have been quite economic and still the bill was quite high. (don't know what the normal rates in Italy are).
Definitely good place for peaceful and relaxing holiday.
We just spent 2 weeks in the Trulli . The reviews were the reason we chose the Trulli Martina Franca, not because of the dwelling or location as much as for the respect for Tommaso's family. Well we were 100% correct in our choice. The Trulli is hugh, clean, comfortable, fully packed and in a great location to see everything in Puglia.
Tommaso's sister and Mom stopped by the first day with freshly made Ricotta and her homemade cheese, the fridge and cabinets were full of goodies. The next morning Mom brought us over fresh pastries and made sure we were comfortable. Tommaso was in constant touch with us recommending sites and places to eat. Every time we decided to take a day trip, and there were many, he was always there with exactly which place to go and where to eat. Even on a cross Italy 2 day trip to Pompeii he had a restaurant for us to try. ( I think he must like Italian food.)
Martina is a great central location to see the local cities and enjoy the Adriatic. We day tripped to Ostuni,Monopoli, Fassano, Alberobello, Locorotondo, Lecce, Matera,Castellana and made a trip over to the ruins in Herculaneum and Pompeii. The location is great and easy to navigate, as long as you are as fearless as some of the Italian drivers, Mama Mia.....
If your looking to explore Puglia and the local area in that section of Italy I cannot recommend Trulli Martina Franca more. The farm is a real "hoot" to go to and Tommaso and his family are very special people. We have been touring Europe for over 2 months and we feel this has been the best part of our vacation. This is a must stay. Buon Natale Tommaso and Famiglia....
We stayed at the property for a week during the 2012 autumn half term holidays and had a great time.
As with other guests, we arrived to a fridge packed with fresh fruit, veg, eggs and fantastic cheeses - not to mention a few well-appreciated beers sitting in the cooler. Tommaso, the perfect host throughout our stay, also brought us some delicious pastries on our first morning - coinciding nicely with my wife's birthday and making it a great start to the holiday.
The property was spotless, more than well-equipped, and the experience of it in actuality - both interior and exterior - far surpassed the photographs on the Holiday Rentals site: the garden area was beautiful in the autumn sun (as were the surrounding countryside and towns).
We, too, visited the farm which was a highlight for the children, particularly my five year old son. Tommaso's parents were great hosts and it was nice chatting with them (with the aid of Tommaso's translation) while we helped ourselves to the cheese and biscuits they bestowed on us. We liked the cheese so much we bought one to take back - needless to say, it didn't last long.
Being well situated made visiting other towns and cities easy and we managed trips to Alberobello, Ostuni, Taranto, Monopoli, Trani and Bari. Each of these places is distinctively different and there's certainly not room to do them justice here but I can say it was great to see Bari benefitting from the investment it's enjoyed over the past two decades or so. The old town, Bari Vecchia - once a no-go area - has been gentrified, making it safe and a delight to pass through as you make your way from the city to the castle. In another decade it may well be a tourist trap so enjoy it while you can. By the way, all of these places are so wonderfully lit at at nighttime it doesn't matter what time of day you visit.
As for eating out, there were many highlights, including a fantastic rustic meal of homemade sausages followed by orecchiette, and washed down with house wine at the butcher / deli just a hundred metres or so from Trulli Martina (again, the owners are incredibly friendly). Then there was the occasion when I ‘just’ ordered the antipasti at the nearby Vecchia Lanzo and almost had to be carried out.
In short, this was a week packed with great and memorable experiences; the region, its food and most of all, its people contributing to a perfect family holiday. Grazie mille, Tommaso and family - we'll be back!
We stayed at the trullo near Martina Franca for a week in September and were overwhelmed by the kindness of the family who own it. The fridge was bursting at the seams on our arrival and we had extra goodies brought during the week! I recommend that you don't buy anything beforehand until you see what you have there!
Tommaso who runs the letting side is a joy to deal with and his parents and sister who help with the day-to-day logistics are extremely kind people. We went to the farm to see the goats, pigs and chickens etc during our stay and also to check out the making of the cheese which is excellent.
The trullo itself was spotless, well furnished, comfortable and fitted out with everything you need. Conveniently located to the south of Martina Franca, there was access to the road system of the area so that you can visit many of the towns and cities. It is a straightforward drive from Bari or indeed Brindisi airports. We arrived a couple of days earlier and stayed in a B&B in Barletta, another interesting place to visit, although I must caution that the streets in the area (and indeed throughout the region!) are narrow, parking is a problem and the driving can sometimes be quite traumatic at times!! We enjoyed visits to Taranto to the south, Otranto to the east as well as Lecce, Monopoli and the famous Alberobello which has over 1000 trulli. All well worth visiting. We did dine out a few times and tried the Pugliese speciality called 'capocollo' which is a pork steak but must say that it was not to our taste. Probably the only thing we didn't enjoy about our holiday, which can't be bad!!!! The local restaurant pizzeria in neighbouring San Paolo is to be recommended - unfortunately I returned home without the details so you will have to visit to find out its name!
Would I recommend this property to friends or relatives? Of course I would except that I wouldn't want too many people to find out about it in case it was booked up when we wanted to go again - which we most certainly would.
Thank you again to Tommaso and all his lovely family. We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday.
Trulli.Relax, green and peace.
