Sure, you can do your laundry at the cabin - full washer and dryer units are located next to the game rooms. Pets are certainly welcome and we have a fenced in pet run for exercise. Please do not leave your pet in the pen if you leave the area; pets are confined to that space and other wildlife are interested. Additionally, if you leave your pet alone in the cabin, you must put the pet in a crate; crates are not provided i.e. you must bring your own. Pet fee is $40 for one pet, $80 for two pets or more. First 40 yards of drive is concrete - after the first 40 yards, the drive turns into gravel to take you up the mountain to this quiet hide-away. Four-wheel-drive highly recommended between October and April; front wheel drive the rest of the year is recommended. If you read about poor road conditions in the reviews, we have rectified that with the new concrete drive. Wounded Warriors should ask about a special discount. Discounts are offered to either military (retired, active, Reservists) or teachers – ask for your discount up front to figure pricing AND BEFORE BOOKING WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD; please do not expect more than one discount - either military or educator (both are equal). Why Carl S. Ey chose Luray
A Buck's Peak resides in the Cabin Capital of Virginia. It is a large log cabin in the middle of nowhere but close enough to enjoy the fun stuff like Luray Caverns, Lake Arrowhead (3 miles away), canoeing and rafting on the Shenandoah River, zip-lining, wine-tasting, hiking (yes, you can hike right outside the cabin up to Skyline Drive), antiquing, all types of biking, great restaurants and nature enjoyment. This cabin will take your breath away with all of the accommodations from a super hot tub to a fully equipped kitchen to a large screen t.v. and incredible game room.
What makes this Cabin unique
This is one of a VERY few ADA compliant log cabins in the Virginia's Cabin Capital, Luray, Virginia! Additionally, you can tell people you stayed in 'the holler!' A Buck's Peak is located in what Luray citizens refer to as Jewell Hollow or 'the holler.' We offer either a military discount or an educator discount (not both). Please tell me up front that you are an educator or an active/retired/reservist/former military member. This cabin is quiet and private - all of your distractions are removed; no internet option, cell service is practically non-existent as you are enjoying the middle of nature!

Amazing cabin, amazing views, perfect for adults and kids
Our stay at A Bucks Peak was so wonderful and memorable. We had a group that included adults and children of all ages and everyone had an amazing time. It was a great home away from home to "unplug". Everyone enjoyed the views, the spaciousness of the cabin, the movies and games available. The kids never got bored. We were able to have family meals each night and smores by the fire. We were even able to bring our family pet along and he looooved the convenient dog run. The local property manger and owner were very kind and helpful! I had no problems reaching them throughout the rental process. Our family would like to make this cabin a part of our regular getaways!!! You will not be disappointed!
Thank you for the super review. My wife and I are very proud of our cabins and the staff up there is super. Please remember, repeat clients get a 5% discount - remind me of it when you book again and please come again!
A beautiful home within 6 miles of Shenandoah National Park- Thornton Entrance
Our extended family (5 adults, 3 kids) included hikers, an ardent cyclist, and a 6, 4 & 2-year-old. Quick access to the park made hitting a trail or cycling Skyline Drive for a portion of the day easy, and kept the kids' schedule realistic. The house gave us the space we needed to be together or spread out. Cooking and sharing favorite meals in a beautiful well-equipped kitchen was easy. We also enjoyed the gas grill and fire pit.
The mountains, forest and stars are spectacular from the huge front porch; whether you are enjoying the rocking chairs or hot tub! The main floor high ceilings, windows and glass doors allow you to enjoy the view from the kitchen, dining, living space and bedrooms. The lower level has two bedrooms with en suites, and built in bunks in the family room that the grands enjoyed.
Pete the local contact person is friendly and very helpful, especially with access after heavy rains. The housekeeper had everything clean and ready for our arrival.
We really enjoyed our time a Buck's Peak.
Wonderful family retreat
Buck's Peak was a hit! There were 8 of us.. ages ranging from 4 to 74, and everyone had a great time. Unfortunately, the weather was not great so there were certain things we couldn't do such as enjoy sitting out on the deck with morning coffee. However, we made up for it in the hot tub which was just the right temperature (quite hot) upon our arrival. There was plenty of room for everyone so we could spread out which was a treat. Most everyone tried their luck with the dart game,... harder than one expects.
We did manage to find time for having s'mores around the outdoor fire pit... perfect on a chilly night. One day we headed for the water park at Massanutten.. a family favorite. We packed up and headed out for the trails; cold temperatures and high winds cut our hike a little short, but it was an adventure nonetheless.
Yes, the final driveway is really steep and narrow.. so glad we didn't venture out at night.
A great family retreat.
Great off-the-main-road spot for a weekend in the mountains.
A great rental for our needs, sorry we couldn't stay longer. We definitely recommend the house and will be back with family soon -- grossly better than staying at a hotel. We were bummed that the hot tub was out of order, but it was nice of Pete the local contact to drive an hour to come try to fix it for us -- thanks so much for trying!! They instead offered us use of the one next door (no guests there this weekend) which was nice of them to give us an alternative but we didn't venture over in the cold. Our crew had a great time with the darts and shuffleboard in the basement, we were never bored even after dark or when it was too cold to be on the mountain. Well equipped kitchen. Thanks for hosting, we will be back!
Beautiful cabin, amazing view
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at a Buck's Peak. We had more than enough room for ourselves and our four children; the layout is smartly imagined and the finishings are lovely.
The view from the deck is incredible - we enjoyed an unparalleled view of a full moon and enjoyed star gazing. During the day, the view of the mountains is truly gorgeous. Our children were fully occupied hiking around the woods that surround the cabin. And we enjoyed using the firepit for smores and marshmallows.
While you may never want to leave the cabin, we found its location conveniently located to both Luray and to Skyline Drive. Lots to do for children or for adults! Also, should you need, the cabin is nicely handicap accessible. We have a son with mild cerebral palsy and enjoyed not having to worry about him having difficulty traversing stairs into the cabin and loved the easy-to-access shower on the main level.
We would highly recommend the cabin and look forward to a return trip.
Beautiful cabin! Very spacious
Right in the heart of the Shenandoah Mountain, A Buck's Peak is less than five miles off of the Skyline Drive. Biking, antiquing, wine tasting, zip-lining, Yogi Bear Park, Luray Caverns, whiskey tours, ATVing and the coolest movie theater on the East Coast are just a few of the attractions. Recommend you partake in Wine Tasting at both Gadino Cellars (Washington, VA) and Chester Gap cellars in Rhappahanock. Enjoy the antique shops in Washington, Virginia as well as Luray, Virginia. The Luray Movie Theater is a refurbished mansion that shows first-run movies. Finally, you can simply enjoy the 120 jet, 8-person hot tub on the log cabin's huge deck!
