About the property

Lovely cottage on 8 acres with wide open vistas

The house has 1 bedroom and a designated sleeping area on an enclosed lanai. It sleeps 2 with extra sleeping arrangements for 2 children or familiar adults. This charming rental is truly a unique way to experience Hawaii with expansive ocean views and wide open spaces. This little house has personality plus with cathedral ceilings, warm lighting and a large wrap around lanai. The lanai on two sides is enclosed with windows from floor to ceiling. Dining is stunning with views of fields and tropical trees to the Pacific. The house sits on eight acres so there is privacy and quiet. Sliding glass doors and many windows offer a sense of being indoor-outdoor. There are no stairs to navigate. All is kept clean.

There is 1 bathroom, and as often in Hawaii homes, there is the option of an outdoor shower with a colorful garden to provide privacy.

The surrounding area is lush and beautiful. The quiet winding roads are perfect for long walks through farmlands, flowers, coffee, guava trees. In some spots both the mountain Mauna Kea and the ocean can be seen. Wild pheasants and turkeys even a few peacocks scurry along the roads.

The location is a central stepping off point to explore the island -- the volcano to the east and world class beaches to west less than an hour away. The historic Honokaa Town and gorgeous Wiapio valley are nearby and Kalopa Park created to protect native species is just 4 miles away.

There are beach chairs, snorkel gear, swimming noodles, boogie board, and beach towels provided.

A fenced in area adjoining the lanai is available for visiting pets to enjoy.

The pond feature has been emptied and now contains potted orchids. This is to minimize mosquitos due to recent related problems on the island.

Tranquil and private

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is tranquil and private. Sleeping and eating on the fully screened lanai with the breeze, fragrance and fresh air coming in is far more comfortable and refreshing than staying in an air-conditioned hotel. The changing views to the skies and ocean from a cloudy to a sunny day are spectacular. Overall a very enjoyable experience for us. Jane is extremely friendly and helpful. Thanks Jane!

Peaceful and Spacious

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I LOVED staying here for 10 days. It was peaceful, private and comfortable. Many things we enjoyed -- cooking in the spacious kitchen, breakfasts on the front porch with the view of the ocean in the distance, the trade winds through the trees, the pineapple garden, wild turkeys and wild birds of many colors visiting the side yard for some feed, a sweet cat that was friendly and kept insects away, a huge yard to lay around in. Easy short drive to towns and sites. Jane was very kind and available to help with info whenever we texted or emailed and she respected our privacy during our stay. We would love to stay here again anytime and highly recommend it!

Secluded home with fabulous ocean view

  • 4 of 5

This house has a fantastic glassed-in lanai with terrific vistas. There is a sleeping porch on the lanai that affords great views of the sunrise and the stars at night. There is also an outdoor shower that is a wonderful addition to the inside shower and bathroom. Beautiful and well equipped kitchen. This rental comes with a roving flock of wild turkeys (they are not disruptive) and a wonderful, somewhat resident cat (Lilo). We really enjoyed our stay. Jane was very accommodating.

Airy cottage with great sunrises.

  • 5 of 5

Loved the sunrises. Loved the property. Loved the openness. Lots of pots and pans in kitchen. Some quirks: enclosed lanai that has a bed doesn't completely lock, but we enjoyed the openness. A little difficult to find the cottage. Floors and shower could be cleaner but overall very peaceful stay.

Amazing place

  • 5 of 5

We booked here based on a recommendation from our kids who stayed here a year prior. It is a lovely place about three miles off the main road. It is very private, only a few neighbors. You wind past the Hawaii Vanilla plantation on your way to the cottage. They are a very nice family and I highly recommend doing their lunch and tour. The cottage is off grid, solar powered but with municipal water. It is very well equipped for cooking with a gas stove and full size refrigerator. The bed on the sleeping porch is comfortable and enjoys the morning sun. The Lanai is very large with plenty of space to read or hang out. It is one of the most peaceful places we have ever stayed and really allows you to slow down.
