This 2 bdrm, 1 bath craftsman cottage is located on 6 very private forested acres. The cottage has open beam cedar ceiling, bamboo floors and many custom details. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, the guest room has a trundle bed and a sleeping loft. The bathroom has a large custom shower, and outside on the deck there is a large cast iron soaking tub. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed during your stay, as well as washer and dryer. Enjoy hiking and birdwatching in the morning and then head to the beaches in the afternoon. This cooler elevation is very comfortable for sleeping. For those cooler winter mornings there is a wood stove to keep you warm and toasty. A unique Hawaii experience, off the beaten path.
Bill and I have lived in Hawaii for over 20 years. Bill is a General Building Contractor, and I am a Realtor. We designed and built the houses on our property, and have decided to make this our final home. During our 20 years here we have lived in Waikoloa Village, moved to Kona and continued to move to higher elevations preferring the cool climate of the higher elevations. If it is your dream to live in Hawaii we can help make that a reality.
Get a unique Hawaii experience. Wake to the sounds of birds, hike through the forest of Ohia, Koa and Hapu Ferns, and pick wild Lilikoi.
Tucked into the fern forest, ideal for hiking, bird watching and photography. If you find the heat in town a bit much for you, this is the ideal location. The Big Island is known for it's world class fishing and active volcano.
Thank you so much for everything and mostly the use of your beautiful place. We had a wonderful stay and will look forward to returning.
My mom and I had the pleasure of staying here during Ironman week in Kona and it was such a gem. We loved the spacious floor plan and the privacy with it tucked into the beautiful mountain scenery. It was an easy place to get to and from with our rental car and the home was well equipped with anything we could have needed. The outdoor tub was a fantastic addition and the kitchen was awesome. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here and the host, plus Ollie (the cat), were both wonderful. She greeted us with a freshly picked pineapple that was scrumptious and some macadamia nuts for local flare. All in all, we can't wait to come back!
The cottage had such a homey, relaxing, familiar feel. Hubby said felt like a Vermont log cabin, but in a rainforest paradise. The place had everything. Loved the trees, fern, sound of the tree frogs at night. It was perfect, we will be back. Only thing is be pay special heed to the directions to the cottage as Hao Street crosses the mainroad Kaloko three times. Once you get the tricky direction down, it is all smooth sailing.
Located in the mountain about 15 minutes from downtown
For those who are looking for some fresh air where no AC is needed and calm it s the place to be
House is clean and spacious
It has all you need to feel like home
Fresh flowers were inside
Owners were not there but we were warmly welcome by relatives
Great beaches, such as I mean outstanding one (postcards type) are 20 and 40 minutes away : Kekaha Kai state park and Kiholo bay
This home away is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and so very comfortable and cozy. Kathryn added lovely flowers to greet us on the table and all around the house; everywhere, we were greeted with genuine "Aloha"! The walk-in shower is big enough for two and built with wonderful tiles and stonework. Outside, surrounded by the lush vegetation and flowers of the cloud forest is a magnificent soaking tub. There are not jets to disturb the bird song or the bubbles of champagne. It was the perfect retreat for celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and second honeymoon in Hawaii! Mahalo nui loa to Bill & Kathryn!
We stayed 5 nights with our two sons ages 9 & 11. The home is wonderful and you really feel like you're getting away from the hustle and bustle of town. I liked going down to the beaches and then coming back for a cool, quiet evening up in the lush forest. You do have to plan your groceries, but the market down the street does have some of the essentials so you don't have to travel too far. We loved it and Kathryn was so nice to provide some breakfast materials in the fridge since we didn't get in until after 11pm. Our sons enjoyed being able to explore a bit and chase lizards. Not being in a condo or hotel means they can do that right out the front door.
Beautiful little piece of paradise we won't soon forget. If we make our way to the Big Island again we'll definitely book this place to stay. :)
Oh - and do use the red tub, it's lovely.
I have stayed in a number of vacation rentals throughout the US and this one is by far the very best experience. Kathryn is a thoughtful and gracious host, providing helpful information for our visit. From our first correspondence to our first meeting she has epitomized the friendliness and warmth of Hawaii. From grocery stores to beaches, her recommendations were excellent.
The house is a lovely, quiet retreat from the tourist bustle of Kailua-Kona, but has easy access to town, beaches and airport. Being able to come home to this lovely space after day trips to Hilo and Volcanoes was wonderful.
The house easily accommodates 4 adults and would be perfect for a family.
If given the opportunity I would (and will) return to this beautiful spot.
