I moved to Vashon from New York City, was Director of Nursing of the local Care Center, adopted from China and married the owner of Pike Place Market Cinnamon Works, four years ago. We also have a small sheep farm on the island. I am an outdoor enthusiast, a botanical artist and love Vashon Island.
Judy Beggs purchased this cabin in 2005
We love having a small getaway on the beach. We live elsewhere and balance our time between the sheep farm, work at the care center, and raising Gracie. The sunsets at the end of the day from the 'Airie' provide the perfect ending for a beautiful, rich day.
i love walking down the path from Bates Walk, waving hello to my neighbors, smelling the nasturtium that drapes down the walls of our beach house and being greeted by an eagle overhead or an otter in the water. Throwing in a fishing line from the bulkhead and catching several pink salmon 'on the fly' with Gracie last year was outrageous. A quick trip to the BBQ with our veggies from our farm or market; life doesn't get better.
The cottage was a perfect getaway. Location could not have been better. I highly recommend!!
The owners and their young daughter were as gracious and kind as they could be! They made an exception and let us stay just one night, since they had an "orphaned" night. They shared board games from their own house when they discovered that we were hankering for some games. The barbecue area was stocked with coals. The place was set! The only think I wish was that the kayaks were available for our use!
Thank you for a great time.
This was my second time staying at Airie-and this is now our official local getaway for my boyfriend/friends and I. This place has everything you need to have a relaxing and comfortable getaway. Wake up to a beautiful scenery, all the comforts of home and an awesome BBQ to make a fabulous meal.
Planning on coming back very soon-Judy is a gem! She made sure our stay was great and I look forward to coordinating a stay with her again!
I stayed here with my two daughters - ages 6 and 8 years old. The cottage was perfect! I slept in the master bedroom, and my daughters shared the second bedroom (and we all had plenty of room). There are two bathrooms as well. The floor plan is very open - the living room and kitchen are all basically one big room with windows facing the beautiful beach, water and sunset views! It is not a large cottage - but it is exactly what we were looking for - warm, inviting and fully equipped to meet all of our needs. We cooked almost all of our meals in the kitchen - which was stocked with everything we needed.
Location, location, location! What a PERFECT location! We loved the beach so much! It is a sandy beach (when the tide goes out). It is in a cove (Paradise Cove - aptly named!) that has gentle waves – perfect for those of us that worry about the swimming abilities of our little children. I felt very comfortable having my young daughters walk near and wade in the water. We also went kayaking in the cove, and the current was not too strong, so that we were able to double up and easily navigate the waters! My girls still ask me: “mommy - when are we going back to that special cottage on the beach, where we went kayaking and had so much fun on the on the beach?”
The cottage has a long, narrow deck, with very comfortable chairs - to sit outside in the evening and watch the sunset, which I did every night - with a nice glass of wine (or beverage of your choice). There are other homes in this cove, but I found our cottage to be very quaint, quiet and private. This cottage sits up against the cliff behind the beach and tends to sit above the other properties – so that you have a great sense of being alone… and you have wonderful views of the water and sunsets!
The host (Judy) was wonderful – engaging, welcoming, informative and friendly. She even took the girls to her farm to feed the baby lambs (which was a very special treat - my girls will always remember). If we needed anything – she was there for us!
I will rent this cottage again and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone looking for something peaceful, quiet, and relaxing – where you can’t beat the natural beauty of the beach and sunsets! It truly is Paradise Cove!
I stayed at th Airie with my women friends and we had a wonderful time. The Airie had everthing we needed to delicious cook meals, sit comfortably talking till the wee hours and sleep like a babies in great beds lulled by the lapping waves on the beach. The view is sublime and Judy made sure we wee well taken care of. I cannot wait to return!
I stayed at the "Airie " cabin with some girlfriends and we a had a fantastic time. The cabin was clean and cozy and had everything we needed to make our meals and hang out together. The location is beautiful and view is sublime. Judy took great care of us. Thanks so much. We cannot wait to come back in the summer!
