About Karen Ulmer

My husband and I love Pennsylvania where we both live and work. We enjoy the outdoors and love the Poconos as a place to relax and see nature.

Karen Ulmer purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Karen Ulmer chose Gouldsboro

With many fond memories of vacationing at Gouldsboro State Park and swimming in the lake, cooking on the beach and playing frisbie on the sand, there was no other place that I wanted to permanently establish as a vacation spot. It is my hope that other people will share these fond memories and make it a tradition to visit every year and enjoy the surrounding amenties.

What makes this cabin unique

There is nothing better than waking up and sitting outside on the bedroom balcony listening to nature in a wooded setting with no one around you while you drink coffee or tea and read a magazine or paper. There serenity and fresh air add life and renewal in such a short time.

Very Rustic and Cozy Cabin

  • 3 of 5

My family stayed in thie home over Christmas. The fireplace was lovely and the home was warm and just the right size for us. The only issue I had is that the place was quite dirty. The sheets in the downstairs bedroom were visibly soiled, there were many cobwebs in the rafters, and the whole place needs a good deep, professional cleaning. The kitchen and bathroom are quite outdated, so if you're used to newer construction and homes that get regular cleanings, this is not the right fit for you. If you're looking for something more rustic or a place to crash after hunting or skiing, this is a great fit.

Amazing Charming House!

  • 5 of 5

This was the absolute perfect winter weekend getaway! The house was so charming and beautiful and really clean. It was also equipped with everything we might need from games to pots and pans to towels. It was a perfect cozy cabin that was really well decorated in a rustic way and the fireplace was awesome. They were also really accommodating - the weekend was especially cold but they made sure to turn on the heat for us before we arrived and we were able to keep the house nice and warm all weekend. Everything about our stay was perfect and I can’t think of any complaint I would have. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a cozy home for their getaway.

The house is really beautiful. The location is fine, very near to the lake. The rooms were neat and clean, with proper bedding, wardrobes and storage options available. We went there in summer, so there was no need for heat in the house, and thus we did not light up the fireplace, which looked quite amazing.

The house is very spacious, with all amenities such as crockery, cutlery, a television set with CD player, long and nice couch, dining table, chairs, etc. The caretaker was also quite helpful.

We had a wonderful time, and would definitely return here, when travelling to Poconos.

Had a great memorial day weekend here

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of friends who came here for the memorial day weekend and had a great time. The house is beautiful and kind of charming/rustic with all wooden outdoor finishing. The whole process of booking the house, getting there, checking out, getting your refund was painless (just make sure to get your car tags from the security desk). The house owners and the local super there seem very nice; gave us a lot of pointers on what to do in the neighbourhood. Would definitely come again.

A great getaway

  • 4 of 5

My family and I needed a break away from the city we was looking for a quiet peaceful place but still want to be close to all the attractions. We would sit on the front porch surrounded by towering trees and relax listening to the birds sing by day and the crickets chirp at night See some spectacular mountain and sky resort around the area also we hike or bike ride on the trails also when swimming. We go back every year to enjoy the beauty of nature in a place that a wish it was my own.

COLD! Winter Oasis

  • 3 of 5

My fiance and I spent a few nights here over the New Year's holiday. The cabin was clean and conveniently located to shops, ski resorts, etc. It seems like a great family cabin for a summer vacation, however in winter, it was FREEZING! The windows on the inside had ice of them. We had all thermostats on 90* and I walked around in the common areas with a hat, slippers, and lots of layers. Thank god for the fire place and the bedroom was warm. Even the nights we remembered to close the fireplace chimney, it was very chilly and the floor heaters were cold to the touch. That aside, we had a nice time and enjoyed the area very much. The house is well equipped with all the appliances. Beautiful location!

Owner's Response: There were no complaints while the guest was there and the caretaker was never contacted regarding any issue with the heat. The heater on the baseboard was not on at checkout and the caretaker indicated he did not think the heat was turned on by the guest in the great room which had to be turned on with a nob on the base of the heater not by a thermostat. The flu for the chimney was also left open at checkout so not sure if it was closed at all during the stay. Would have loved the opportunity to address the situation during the stay but was not notified or given an opportunity. No effort was made by guest during the stay to notify of any issues.
