We are John and Jeanne. John grew up in Arizona and Jeanne in California in the San Francisco Bay Area. We have lived on the Big Island since 1998. We currently live in Leilani Estates, which is only 15 minutes from the ocean house. The ocean house is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park in Keaau on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii on Kaloli Point. We love it here and you will too.
Jeanne or John Vurich purchased this house in 1998
When John first came to Hawaii before we had met he just fell in love with it. When Jeanne came into his life we were in the process of building our home in Leilani Estates when we found this piece of wonderful ocean property. Both of us being Pisces we love the water and just had to build a home on the ocean. Never looked back since. We lived at the ocean house for four years and then decided to move back to Leilani which is on an acre and gave our two dogs a lot more running room and us a larger area to grow trees and plants.
We purchased the land on which this home was built in 1998 and designed it ourselves. We love large, spacious rooms and we believe this home reflects that open-aired feeling.
We enjoyed our 15 day stay at JJ'so Surf Shack even with some interference from "Mother Nature ". We experienced very high surf for several days after our arrival which destroyed a large section of the pool deck tile and filled the pool with sand. John was prompt in having the pool cleaned and repairs done over the first week of our stay. The house is large and has everything you need to cook your own meals. We had a few issues with low water supply and missing cleaning tools, but John was always responsive to our calls. With a little more routine maintenance and thorough cleaning, it would be a spectacular unit. We saw breaching whales, turtles and spinner dolphins playing out front. In all, it was a great time!
We had great weather, mostly sunny. We took the Lava Boat Tour out at 5 AM to watch the lava flowing into the ocean. Amazing sight and the stars were also great. Even saw the Southern Cross. The house was about 1/2 hour from where the tour left from so was very convient
The house is amazing and very private. Wonderful pool and hot tub. Great place to cook meals and eat in the deck over looking the ocean. Very nice. Thanks.
Wow! and Majestic are two words to describe this place. I want to thank you again for sharing your wonderful house with my family and I.....I hope the kids didn't wear out the water...they were in that pool everyday all day...made us feel like we were Hawaiian home owners ..I am here at work right now saving vacation time and money so we can come back and do it again and again ....that's when you know you had a good time (when ya want to come right back) john and Jeanne thank you again so much from the heart ....hope to see you again soon the sweets
Great location outside Hilo. Beautiful view on the water. Some minor maintenance issues but extremely responsive in fixing them. Overall wonderful experience.
I recommend this property for the views, swimming pool and large lanai. Enjoy walking on the lava coast just outside the door. Hear the ocean waves crashing against the coast. Take a dip in the pool. Relax. Repeat.
It's a bit of a drive to restaurants and groceries, so stock up on your way. The kitchen is huge and there is a grill on the lanai. This is a nice vacation rental.
