Located on 57 acres, the Sassy Goose Lodge is central to some of the best hiking and biking in all of Western North Carolina – DuPont State Forest, Caesar’s Head State Park and Pisgah Forest.
The beauty and privacy of the property is enhanced by a lovely six-acre lake that is great for swimming and fishing. Three canoes, a pontoon boat, and a separate, well stocked, catch and release trout pond are located on the property and available to guests at no additional charge.
The Lodge sits above the lake facing west for some spectacular views of the mountains and sunsets.
There are three bedrooms, each with separate bath. One room has a king bed, another has a queen and the third has a queen and twin bed. Linens and towels are provided. A roll-away bed is available for an additional guest. Larger groups, such as family reunions of up to 18 people, can be accommodated through additional facilities on the property.
Downstairs is a spacious living room with wood burning fireplace, dining room overlooking a deck with a view of the lake, and large kitchen with dishwasher. There is also a half-bath on the main floor. The Lodge has central air and heat.
On the property beyond the Lodge is a covered pavilion with a ping-pong table, shuffle board, horseshoes and bocce court. In addition to the many excellent golf courses nearby is our own Par 2 golf course. All of these facilities are available to our guests at no additional charge.
The Sassy Goose Lodge was originally developed as a bed and breakfast by Bob and Bette Vandeweghe 26 years ago. A two-bedroom cottage on the property near the Lodge was originally their home. Today the property is managed by their daughter Linda who resides in a separate house across the lake and enjoy sharing their beautiful corner of Western North Carolina with guests from all over the world.
Linda Vandeweghe purchased this house in 1986
The property is private, quiet and peaceful, a perfect haven for family reunions. There is so much to do on the property one never has to leave – nevertheless you won’t want to miss the wonderful outdoor, shopping, dining and cultural things to see and do in nearby Brevard, Asheville and Greenville.
The home was awesome! Plenty of room in the home made it very comfortable. Very close to the bike trails at DuPont ( about 1-1/2miles). Will definitely return!
We had a lovely time at the Sassy Goose main house, but it had a mice infestation. When we approached the property owner about the problem, she sounded shocked. She offered us glue traps, but torturing mice isn't something I like to do on vacation. She later offered us the opportunity to move from the 3-bedroom, 4-bath house to the adjacent 2-bedroom, 2-bath house. We declined because no one wanted to go through all of that trouble and then find mice in the smaller house. There was no offer from the owner of a reduced rate for our sleepless nights. Otherwise the property is lovely and the location is central to Dupont Forest.
If you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed by life's demands, a stay at the Sassy Goose might be just what you need! My husband and I enjoyed every minute of our time there. There are several different venues for lodging on the property. We stayed in a cozy, very clean cabin which had everything we needed to feel relaxed and comfortable. From our first point of contact on the phone, Linda, the owner, was most gracious, friendly and helpful. She gave us maps and recommendations for dining, hiking and other activities. We loved the privacy and beauty of the setting...57 wooded acres with ponds, fishing, canoeing, ping-pong, horseshoes...and that's just on the Sassy Goose property! Minutes away, there is Dupont State Forest. My husband and I are avid hikers and there are over 80 miles of trails here to explore with gorgeous layered mountain views, magnificent waterfalls and pristine lakes. Caesar's Head, Table Rock and Jones Gap State Parks are nearby. I had the opportunity to tour the lodge pictured here and the cottage beside it. It would be a wonderful place to have a family reunion or retreat. We want to return and bring four other couples (and each of us could have our own bedroom & en suite bath!). We came home feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and can't wait to visit again!
Three years ago while searching for a place for a weekend getaway for my husbands b'day I came across the name Sassy Goose and thought... cute name! Well, its a cute place too! The owners Bob and Linda are delightful, they know all there is to know about the area and are happy to direct you to all kinds of things. We kayaked nearby and hiked to nearby waterfalls. We had dinner in Brevard which is only about a 20 minute drive. Perfect weekend!
Since then we have gone back with family and friends, rented the 3 bedroom home and one of the cabins. We prepared meals in the large kitchen and enjoyed having plenty of room in the dining area for all of us to sit together. Our grandson, now three loves to go and he mentions the Sassy Goose frequently..... so cute! Lily, our grandaughter has been this year but she is not even one yet... So no reviews from her.... yet! The sassy goose is well maintained and very clean! We will be back!
The Sassy Goose Lodge has it all! … We loved the…
*Location…near water falls, forests, beautiful streams as well as crafts, antiques, and even white squirrels…to find what you are looking for check with the Brevard Chamber of Commerce or better yet, just ask Bob and be sure to see “Pretty Place!”
*Luxury…professionally ironed sheets and silver spoons for your coffee.
* Recreation or relaxation…play to your hearts content: ping pong, shuffle ball, bocce, golf, boating, fishing, indoor games or start a book and take it with you if you find yourself too busy to finish it. We enjoyed all of this and more.
And we especially appreciated the…
*Gracious hosts… friendly and accommodating, yet not hovering. Linda’s baked goods were scrumptious and Bob’s sightseeing suggestions were just what we were looking for, complete with a highlighted map.
The Sassy Goose is as advertised and we highly recommend staying there!
What a pleasure to think of all the great times spent at the Sassy Goose. Thinking back, my husband and I have had our lives altered due to our joyful experiences with the Vandeweghe family. We discovered the place almost twenty years ago when taking our son to High Rocks Camp. We have just celebrated our thirty-first anniversary, and we are enjoying our second summer in our mountain home, just down the road in Connestee Falls. They accommodated our necessary visits, then later our purely for pleasure trips to the area. We highly endorse this vacation spot. Hope there will still be rooms available for our visiting friends. The place is a hidden gem! J
