About the property

A luxurious 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom custom home with 5-star finishes.

The Eagles Nest is an upscale, professionally decorated Big Springs home with 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms and a private outdoor hot tub. The Eagles Nest is ideal for a gathering of friends and family, with soaring cathedral ceilings throughout, a giant wood burning fireplace fashioned from huge stones, and light streaming in through abundant windows. You will be greeted by beautiful slate floors, original oil paintings and fine leather furniture in the common areas. Enjoy the silence and extreme comfort of hydronic radiant heating throughout plus free high speed wi-fi. If you're visiting in the Summer, you'll enjoy the central air conditioning, a very rare feature in this region.

The chef’s kitchen features granite countertops, a Viking 6-burner cooktop, stainless steel fridge, freezer, microwave oven, conventional oven and convection oven, dual sinks, Belgian waffle maker, slow cooker, hand mixer, blender, toaster, toaster oven and all the pots, pans and cooking utensils you could possibly need. 3 coffee makers help you get just what you want in the morning: Keurig maker, traditional Cuisinart coffee maker, and an espresso maker. The great room has a 42 inch plasma TV with DVD player, DirecTV, and theater sound. Elsewhere on the main floor, a billiards table is accompanied by a wet bar. An alcove has its own gas fireplace, a TV on which kids can watch DVDs and a laser printer/photo copier/fax machine. The dining room table seats 12 and the breakfast bar seats an additional 6. Upstairs is a common area with couch that folds into a very comfortable queen sized bed (no really, it's amazing and not your typical terrible sofa bed) and a 40 inch LCD TV that can be used for watching DVDs or playing video games (if you bring your own console). A laundry room offers high end, large capacity Kenmore washer and dryer. The garage has room for 2 cars, a 240V receptacle for your electric vehicle, and contains firewood you are free to use. Off the garage you’ll find the mudroom is perfect for storing coats, boots and the like. On the stone patio, enjoy the private hot tub—which seats 4 adults—and barbecue using the huge stainless steel Weber gas grill.

Bedrooms and stairways have luxurious carpet installed in late 2012. Bedrooms each have their own private bathroom en suite and feature top quality new mattresses, high thread count bedding, bathrobes and Turkish cotton towels to make you comfortable. The master suite features a king bed, gas fireplace, balcony, jetted spa tub and standing shower. The second bedroom features a queen bed and private bathroom. The third bedroom has a king bed and private bathroom. The fourth bedroom has 3 bunk beds (to sleep 6) plus a bathroom. The upstairs common area has a queen sized sleeper sofa that is remarkably comfortable and firm and 89 inches in length--not your usual flimsy, terrible fold out couch where your feet hang off the end.

Situated on half of an acre on a private cul-de-sac in the prestigious Big Springs neighborhood above the Village, Eagles Nest is a 10-minute walk (or a 1-minute drive) to the Timberline chair lift. The property features a grass backyard and natural forest and backs up to the Tompkins Memorial hiking trail. The Northstar shuttle service will pick up your group at the end of the driveway—just call and the shuttle usually arrives within minutes—and take you to the Village or recreation center for free. The rec center—available to guests for just $2 per visit—offers multiple swimming pools, a huge hot tub, a gym and, in the summer, tennis courts. The Northstar Village offers several great restaurants and bars, an ice-skating / roller-skating rink, a movie theater, a Starbucks and plenty of shopping. From The Eagles Nest, you may walk / hike down to the Village in less than 10 minutes on hiking paths and a natural stone stairway maintained by Northstar (though the path is not suitable for the frail or elderly nor when snow is on the ground).

If you do not bring a pet, we do not require a security deposit. Instead, we include a $59 insurance policy in every rental that covers $1,500 of property damage. If you do want to bring a pet, please request approval of the Owner when you inquire; bringing a pet necessitates a $2,000 refundable security deposit because the above-mentioned insurance only covers damage by people and does not cover damage by pets.

Enjoy 8pm checkout on Sundays January through May. Wrap up your day of fun, shower and refresh, and drive back after some of the traffic has eased!

Each visit must include a single, complete weekend (the Friday and Saturday nights must be back to back) unless you want to visit only for weeknights. For example, staying Thursday - Monday or Friday - Thursday are permitted; staying Saturday - Saturday is not permitted. Weekly rates assume a single, complete weekend (the Friday and Saturday nights must be back to back) plus 5 weeknights.

If you are booking more than 6 months in advance, we can accept a 25% deposit at time of booking with 75% due 6 months prior to check in. Contact the owner if you would like to request these payment terms.

About Jon Venverloh

We love gatherings of family and friends and chose this home because the layout of the common areas brings people together. At the same time, the bedrooms are quiet and private, and each has its own bathroom.

Jon Venverloh purchased this house in 2005

Why Jon Venverloh chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

This is a beautiful custom home built in 2002 to the highest standards. Big Springs homes are mostly 2nd and 3rd homes, so there is little traffic and it's extremely quiet. Take hikes right out the back door. In typical winters, it's even possible to ski in if you know the way!

What makes this house unique

The Eagles Nest is situated on about 1/2 of an acre with a very gentle slope towards the street. There is lots of space between homes in the Big Springs neighborhood. The driveway is easy to manage, unlike some of the properties in Tahoe.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Jon, we had a fabulous week at your Eagles Nest. Your home is absolutely beautiful and was perfect for our family. We were very impressed with the Northstar community, shuttles, village, etc. The fireworks on New years eve were an added bonus. We all went out to the end of your street and there they were, bursting beautifully right in front of us! This truly was a dream vacation for our family. Thank you for sharing your home.

The Eagle's Nest delivers

  • 5 of 5

Got together with 2 other college buddies 20 years after graduation. 6 adults, 7 kids, 2 dogs. The Eagle's Nest delivered in every way. I just went around the table and asked the family members what they liked most:

Maddie (7) - The hot tub and a pool table made for great fun!

Dylan (9) - The bunk bed room was a haven for the kids. The mattress was exceptional and the storage space in the closet was great.

Jen (wife) - First off, the place was super clean, which is always awesome. Beyond that, the kitchen was wonderfully stocked with everything you could need - glasses, plates, pots, pans, spices, even a waffle iron! There was ample room for preparing big meals too.

Me - I loved the bar area for apres ski, the gas fireplace in the master bedroom to keep it extra cozy, and the mud room to get staged for a big day on the slopes or to unload after a massive snow ball fight. The staff was amazing:

* We arrived right at 3 on the day of checkin and got an intro to the place from the folks that were finishing up the cleaning

* During the stay, I had to call the property manager and he got back to me 10 minutes later Sunday of President's Weekend

* When we checked out, help was there to shovel my car out from a blizzard.

But the best thing might be the shuttle that comes super quick on demand. We used it to and from the slopes each day, and even used it for a night out in the Village. It's so nice to move 13 people with gear without getting into a car!

Thank you for facilitating a magical trip.

Amazing House

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time in this house with two families of 4. We could have easily added another family. The beds were comfy, heated floors were much appreciated, pool table a hit, and jacuzzi was just what we needed after a long day on the mountain. The house was equipped with everything you could think off from spices in the kitchen, to toys and baby gates, to humidifiers in all the rooms. The bunk bed room was perfect for the kids. We would recommend this house big time!

Nice house with a good family friendly floor plan

  • 4 of 5

The layout of the house was great. My family really liked it. The only negatives were the beds. Very hard and uncomfortable. I advise bringing your own pillows, too. Everything else was really nice...

Beautiful house at Northstar

  • 4 of 5

Our families loved staying at Eagles Nest. The bedrooms were spacious, the living room was spacious for everyone to spread out. Enjoyed the ease and convenience of having the Northstar shuttle picking us up at the front of the driveway. We loved having Cooking meals was our social hour as we could all watch the kids play while we made our meals on the top of the line appliances. We looking forward to renting this place in the summer time again.

Absolute Perfection

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this lovely home just after a terrific snow dump in January. We are active renters in the area, having rented in the Northstar Village, the surrounding homes, and condos. I can say with conviction that this is the BEST home we've ever rented at Northstar. It has. Plenty of master bedrooms for adults and a terrific bunk room for kids. The layout is idea--not too much up and down" in terms of floor plan, the main room is very open with high ceilings. It can accommodate large groups easily. Best of all, it is well appointed with cook ware, serving dishes, a plethora of appliances. He beds are comfy, the sofa is large and snugly. A pool table sits on the main floor in a perfect corner. There is a large outdoor flat area in back for kids to romp in the snow. Shuttle service from the front door to the lifts in 5 mins. This is the best rental we've stayed in at Northstar.
