Our Guests say it better than we can!

'Gardener's Cottage' is located in Historic Flat Rock on the Beckon Ridge Estate. Overlooking a picture perfect pond, you will feel the stress drain from your soul as you listen to the sound of water running downstream and watch the fish swim casually about. How can this special place be so close to town?

Inside you will find the 1 BR & 1 bath cottage comfortable and cozy. Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area overlooking the pond & living room with 32 inch flat screen TV. The furniture is comfortable and practical.

Up the spiral stair (or the exterior steps) is the lovely bedroom with queen sized bed and bathroom with stall shower and laundry area. The cottage has central air and heat and is bright and airy.

Sit outside the bedroom on the small covered balcony to enjoy your morning coffee, evening cocktail or to read a book. It is a lovely private space overlooking the pond, dam and grounds.

While walking along the stream & around the pond (you may stay on the paved drive if you prefer), remember to stop for a bit to sit on a bench or one of the stone steps and notice how nature surrounds you. The wonderful wildlife and foliage is not to be missed.

If you come by motorcycle, you probably know that this whole area is a Bikers Bonanza with great rides in all directions! Cruise Little River Rd, to Crab Creek to Dupont Forest or to Pisgah Forest and the ultimate...the Blue Ridge Parkway. (For your convenience, covered bike parking is gladly provided at the main house.)

All that Historic Flat Rock has to offer, the shops at Little Rainbow Row, Carl Sandburg's Connemara Farm, the goats, the Playhouse are all less than 2 miles away...and Hendersonville's historic Main Street is only 3 miles away, with many excellent restaurants, shops, and exhibits...and Saluda, The Green River Gorge with kayaking, tubing, waterfalls fishing and - ZIP LINES OVER THE TREES- all within a half hours drive. Breweries and Wineries abound!

You know, when the Gardener ran off with the Maid, we were concerned... But The Maids Quarters have been rented, and the Gardeners Cottage is ready for your arrival; so give us a call. OUR CALENDAR IS KEPT UP TO DATE - BOOK NOW!

*The owners live in the main house. They enjoy their privacy and they will respect yours.

LEAF PEEPIN" As for when Henderson County and Western North Carolina will catch the best fall colors, in the highest elevations, on the Blue Ridge Parkway and around the Balsams with elevations from 5,000-6,000 feet, the peak should come near the beginning of October.

For lower elevations, like the high country around Boone, the peak will be somewhere in mid-October, from the 10th to the 18th, at about 3,300 feet in elevation. In places like Hendersonville, Brevard and Asheville, with elevation around 2,200, the peak is likely to come in late October.

For those planning trips, it is advised to go early for high-elevation leaf-peeping spots like Waterrock Knob or Craggy Gardens. Those who miss the higher elevations need only to head up on the parkway and find a good overlook down into a valley, where leaves will be changing later.

Our area is just full of things to do!

Carl Sandburg Home, Flat Rock Playhouse, Historic Main Street, Village of Flat Rock, Farmers Curb Market, Historic Depot & Model Railroad, WNC Air Museum, Historic Johnson Farm, Waterfalls, Mineral Museum, three NC State Forests, golf, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, shopping, antiques and historic sites. Near Chimney Rock Park, Lake Lure, and Biltmore Estate. Events: Garden Jubilee and Carl Sandburg Music Festival on Memorial Day Weekend; July 4th Celebration; NC Apple Festival on Labor Day weekend; “Home for the Holidays” Nov-Dec.

.FOR 2017: AGAIN, we are proud to partner with our neighbors, the renowned Flat Rock Playhouse to offer our Stay and Play Special . When making your reservation, mention the Stay & Play Special to guarantee best seating available. The Mainstage Flat Rock Playhouse is just a mile or so from The Cottage!

About Victor & Darlene

We are formerly from the Catskill Mountains and Long Island in NY. When the kids moved on, we did too! We are semi retired and from the mountains, so WNC was an easy transition. We are just loving it here and hope you will too. We manage our property without pesticides. We raise Honeybees and Free ranging, organically fed Chickens and have been planting fruit trees all around our 8+ acres. We have stepped it up by taking over the management of the Flat Rock Farmers Market for the FR Merchants Association. We hope you visit it while you are here at the Gardener's Cottage at Beckon Ridge. Memberships include: The Henderson County Beekeepers and The Hendersonville Hens as well as the Chamber and the Merchants Association.

Gardeners Cottage is only 2 miles to The Carl Sandburg National Historic Site, the Flat Rock Playhouse, The Cinema, restaurants, golf, and Main Street Hendersonville with all its shops and nightlife.

Within a couple of miles you can patronize any number of good eating and drinking establishments, some with live entertainment on weekend nights. And you are only a few minutes from the supermarket or the food co-op for organic foods.

In addition to hiking trails and the House Tour, the Sandburg site, (aka Connemara Farm) is steeped in Civil War history. And be sure to see their nationally recognized goat herd. Of course the Dupont Forest, is just a short drive and The Green River Gorge with tube rentals and easy access for fishing and kayaking is just 30 minutes south. Zipline over the forest - AMAZING!

There is just so much to see and do around here in any season. The only problem is that once you find the hammock, you may not want to get up and go anywhere!

Private, but not isolated, Gardeners Cottage is right smack dab where you want to be!

****STAY AND PLAY! ****

Book for a 3 night stay, and add 2 tix to see a show at the Flat Rock Playhouse MainStage, just down the road, for an additional $60. (regular price $100.) Best available seats guaranteed!

Tranquil, quaint, cozy

  • 5 of 5

This is by far one of the most peaceful, refreshing stays my husband and I have spent together in quite some time. We went to tour the area and troll for apples for my birthday and we were not disappointed. Great, thoughtful, hosts! We felt more like guests in their guest house than we did tourists to the area. Garden setting with waterfall, plants, trees, foliage and birds all around. Loved the village atmosphere too. Minutes away form many things to do and not enough time to do them all before heading back to the real world. Thank you Victor and Darlene for a memorable stay! We will be back!

Cozy, lovely setting. Hosts were warm and welcoming and very helpful. Would re-book in a second.

  • 5 of 5

The property far exceeded our expectations. The cottage, the pond, the beautiful landscape, and the wild turkeys meandering through were just delightful. Our hosts welcomed us with wine, cookies, candy, and a host of information about what to do in the area. The property was so wonderful, we were hard pressed to leave it each day to go exploring. We will definitely re-book the next time we are in the area.

wonderful, romantic cottage

  • 5 of 5

The setting and atmosphere presented by the cottage, pond, wildlife and surroundings was beyond my expectations. The cottage was very quaint, comfortable and very nicely stocked. Early morning coffee on the deck overlooking the pond while watching wild turkey come out of the woods to feed by the pond was a great way to start the day. The owners, Victor and Darlene were very gracious and went out of their way to make sure our visit was a memorable one.

Upscale Cottage on Beautiful Property in Historic Area

  • 5 of 5

Victor and Darlene make you feel welcomed upon your arrival. The cottage is wonderful. It is clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished. The property is park like with a pond. My wife and I spent four nights at the cottage while experiencing some of the wonders of the historic area. There is the Biltmore Estate, Carl Sandburg's home, Pisgah National Park as well as the Blue Ridge Mountains all close by and waiting to be explored. The Flat Rock Bakery is just down the road as well as Hubba Bubba BBQ.
