About Cindy Murphy

Together Cindy and Mark manage the details of The Good Earth. Cindy and her brother Bob purchased the house and property together in the spring of 2012. Cindy lives in Oregon and retired in 2008 after 31 years of service with the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Bob lives in Northern Virginia, and retired from the federal government in the DC area in 1997. Cindy is a mother and published freelance writer. Bob is an avid reader, a history and plane buff, and a man of wit and charm. Mark is a super gifted 'jack of all trades' and keeps everything at the rental running like a well oiled machine! He usually greets all the guests personally and keeps that fire stoked just perfectly for a relaxing soak in the cedar Snorkel hot tub!

Why Cindy Murphy chose Oregon

We love the shop, raising chickens for fresh eggs, garden beds, the sunlit atrium, vegetation in the yard, the wildlife, colorful lizards, end of the road privacy and the incredible view!! We live in this neighborhood as well only 4 houses down the hill from the rental. We know and love the area, and are only minutes away to provide the best customer service possible. This is a gem of a house, and so close to everything!

What makes this house unique

We have the unique benefits of a majestic vista, out the back door hiking, and our open rural space. There is paved road, unique quiet neighborhood with no light pollution and thousands of brilliant stars in the night sky We are only a mile away from Hwy 97, and right in the heart of outdoor recreation at it's finest. Again we remind people that this is a no smoking neighborhood and we monitor this extremely closely due the danger of fire. If you are tempted to smoke, please consider another property. We also have two resident shop cats who are our buddies and keep the area clean of ruralistic vermin. They are comfortable and totally at home in their h shop, but do not come into the rental house.

Welcome to The Good Earth! Our house is a charming super clean vacation rental with breathtaking views, located on the southern edge of Terrebonne Oregon. Our comfortable smoke free property offers all that you will need to relax and enjoy the beauty of the classic high desert. Just a note though.....if you are a smoker, PLEASE...seriously consider another property. Our entire neighborhood is non smoking due to the extreme fire danger that comes with the landscape here. Respect for our neighborhood and properties is important and we monitor this very closely. You are welcome in our home but if there is ANY sign of smoking in the area we will ask you to leave with no refund and extra charges. With that being said....expect to enjoy Mt. Hood Roasters coffee and fresh eggs from our chicken 'girls' housed on the property. We offer a three bedroom, two bath home with a very cool atrium full of plants. We are located on 2 acres high above our unique local town, and just minutes away from all types of outdoor recreation activities. 4 miles south on Hwy. 97 is Redmond with a great local vibe that includes lively bars, breweries, restaurants, and spot on coffee houses. 23 miles south is Bend, a mecca in the outdoor and beer scene, and 4.5 miles to the northeast Smith Rock State Park awaits your hiking boots to hit the trails beneath golden hued climbing walls. A complementary day use pass for all local Oregon State Parks is available for use during your stay. We are 40 minutes from the unique little community of Sisters at the base of the Cascades. Sisters is the home of towering pines, cool little boutiques, a killer quilt show, popular rodeo and a music filled fall folk festival. This is also the gateway to the magic that is the timeless Metolius River. Skiing, hiking, fishing, biking, rock climbing, and boating are all within 15 minutes to an hour, as well as live theater, great wines, and over the top brewers. If you want to stay within a mile of home, Terrebonne has some awesome local spots that we visit often. Just ask us for our very local recommendations!! There are drop dead sunsets and soaking in the hot tub under brilliant stars. Come visit us and you will understand why we live here!

Great location, great hospitality!

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay here. Unfortunately, with the fires, the smoke was too much but that had nothing to do with the place at all. The owners are very helpful and friendly and the view it amazing! We loved the house and all it's amenities!

1 in a million!

  • 5 of 5

This was such a great property for a family to stay at! It was close distance to many attractions that we wanted to see. (The Painted Hills, Smith Rock, Bend, Centennial splash park in Redmond, ECT.) The hospitality was amazing and the kids even got to help out with gathering eggs from the chicken coop! Cindy and Mark, we will surely be back to explore more of Central Oregon. Thank you for everything!

A great family vacation.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderland place. The views are incredible. Very comfortable with everything we needed for a great stay. We spent three days hiking at Smith Rock and visits to Bend. Everything was convenient. There is also great hiking right behind the house. We will definitely go back.

Owner's Response: We are conveniently located to many amazing spots loved by visitors and residents alike! We made it through the crazy beautiful eclipse and actually watched it in totality from the trail right behind The Good Earth. Central Oregon has had it's challenges this summer with fires and traffic, but it has certainly been a memorable season. We are turning toward the fall now and hoping that the pace of life will slow down just a bit as we ease toward the beginning of school and quieter days. We hope to see you soon as the weather cools and the shadows grow longer!

The Good Earth is AMAZING

  • 5 of 5

The home has stunning 180 degree view of Smith Rock and beautiful sunsets. The owners, Cindy and Mark were very accommodating and welcoming. We had a little SNAFU when we arrived, but they jumped into action and more than made up for it. The house was clean and comfortable. Could easily sleep 12 people with the futons in the great room. The kitchen is large and well stocked with dishes, etc. When we return to the area, we will definitely stay there again. Bonus, Maragas Winery is a short drive away.

Owner's Response: When we first started renting our house we were told it is not IF but WHEN something unexpected will happen that will create somewhat of a disaster. Well this time it was fully headed in that direction but with sheer determination, help from some amazing people and good communication, we turned a teetering disaster into a positive experience for all of us. We are just four houses down the hill so we are always available to answer questions or resolve issues immediately and we do take a great deal of pride in our customer service. We are grateful for the patience of these guests and look forward to their return on down the road!

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous views. The owners are flexible, welcoming, helpful. The house is spacious and well apportioned; We found everything we needed. A state park day pass was even included. All of the activities we wanted to do were within a short drive. Nine of us slept at the house comfortably, we easily added 5 more for meals and hanging out.

Owner's Response: We really do strive to make every guests stay wonderful and our very best compliment is someone saying they will be back. It has been an unbelievably busy year at The Good Earth and now unfortunately fire season is in full swing and our thoughts are with all the brave people fighting those horrible battles. We can't help but look forward to clearer skies and cooler temps on down the road as school begins again and summer gives way to fall! Cheers! Mark and Cindy

Owner's Response: We hear comments on these views all the time and it really is spectacular! From Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson to the craggy cliffs of Smith Rock State Park, it presents a breathtaking landscape laid out at your feet. Summer is in full swing and the roses are absolutely loaded this year. It seems that all the moisture we had this winter made them particularly happy! We are looking forward to all of our guests who will be visiting this year as well as the crazy solar eclipse right around the corner in August. Book some time with us in 2017 high on the hill overlooking the rural fields of Terrebonne!
