We take great pride in providing an extremely clean house. We thoroughly clean everything between guests and although new carpets went down in the bedrooms in 2012, they are cleaned in the Spring and Fall. New laminate flooring has been installed in the hallway. Our rental is fully inspected prior to each arrival for a double check after the initial clean.
Together Cindy and her partner Mark (pictured) manage the day to day details of The Good Earth. Cindy and her brother Bob purchased the house and property together in the spring of 2012. Cindy lives in Oregon and retired in 2008 after 31 years of service with the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Bob lives in Northern Virginia, and retired from the federal government in the DC area in 1997. Cindy is a mother and published freelance writer. Bob is an avid reader, a history and plane buff, and a man of wit and charm. Mark is a super gifted 'jack of all trades' and keeps everything at the rental running like a well oiled machine! He usually greets all the guests personally and keeps that fire stoked just perfectly for a relaxing soak in the cedar Snorkel hot tub! Cindy and Mark are usually the faces you will see here at The Good Earth and lately our on site hospitality guy Joe will be around as well, all of us are always ready to help in any way to make sure your stay is as enjoyable and pleasant as it can possibly be.
Cindy Murphy purchased this house in 2012
We love the shop, raising chickens for fresh eggs, garden beds, the sunlit atrium, vegetation in the yard, the wildlife, colorful lizards, end of the road privacy and the incredible view!! We live in this neighborhood as well, only 4 houses down the hill from the rental. We know and love the area, and are only minutes away to provide the best customer service possible. This is a gem of a house, and so close to everything!
Besides the majestic vista, out the back door hiking, and open space and privacy, we are also part of a small community water system in the same aquifer as Earth2O which means good clear water! There is a newly paved road, unique quiet neighborhood with no light pollution and thousands of brilliant stars in the night sky! The raised garden beds, and healthy herb gardens provide extras for summer guests who like to cook! We are only a mile away from Hwy 97, and right in the heart of outdoor recreation at it's finest. Again we remind people that this is a non smoking neighborhood, and we monitor this extremely closely due the danger of fire. If you are tempted to smoke, please consider another property. We also have two resident shop cats who patrol for rodents. They are comfortable and at home in their heated shop, but do not come into the rental house.
My family loved staying here! It was a great get-away in a beautiful setting. Highlights for the kids (ages 5 & 9): the chickens, the stunning trail behind the house to the top of the hill, the sweet cat that followed us up the trail, and the games & movies! Highlights for mom & dad: the view(!!), the telescope for watching climbers at Smith Rock (tightrope walking?!), the comfy beds, the record selection, the fresh eggs, bottle of wine and coffee. Mark & Cindy were very helpful and accommodating. Couldn't recommend the place more.
TGE was a luxury for our group of three on our 4 day hiking adventure in Central Oregon. It was the perfect resting place to put our feet up after racking up the miles each day. The couch and recliners are amazing! We listened to Pandora while enjoying the view of Smith Rock, sipped tea while plotting the next day's adventure, and enjoyed cozy breakfasts watching the hot air balloons float by (ok, truth is we spied on them with the telescope!). We also enjoyed a friendly game or two of Twister, threw the football around, and chatted with the hens as they clucked around the yard. TGE is clean, well stocked, and roomy! We'll be back for sure!
Everything was first class from the time we walked in the front door. Plenty of space for the twelve of us. #1 requirement for some of the group was WiFi (worked great). We also played some of the board games and the Wii. The record player and albums were a hit with the younger kids who had never seen one before. Mark was great to work with and obviously takes pride in the property and making sure everything is "just right". We spent most of our days with nearby family, but Good Earth was a nice place to escape when someone needed a break from all of the hubbub. Only regret was not making time to try the snorkel hot tub - maybe next time!
We had 13 volleyball players who worked very hard during the day at a volleyball camp and got to come home to an oasis! The house was perfectly situated for us. The 'futon room', as we called it, was a great place for the girls to hang out, the kitchen and dinning room was definitely big enough for all of us to eat together, and most importantly, there was enough hot water for all their showers! The girls would set their alarms to make sure they wouldn't miss the spectacular sunsets. Even though we were a half hour away from the camp the girls agreed that the house and the view was worth the drive. Mark and Cindy were great to work with, very responsive and accommodating, even supplying us with fresh eggs to give our girls energy for the day! We will be booking for next year for sure! Thank you Good Earth!
This was our first stay at The Good Earth. Everything was great. Clean, comfortable, amazing views, felt just like home. The location well suited our needs, not too far from anywhere we wanted to go. Did i mention the view?? Mark and Cindy are great, as are the cat and chickens. Cant recommend this rental enough!! Thank you!
Had a wonderful 3 day weekend at The Good Earth! This home is every bit as the owners describe it...very clean, open, amazing views from all sides, tranquil and a great place to retreat. Mark & Cindy have done a superb job on this home. They have equipped it with everything you could possibly need and have added many little extra touches to make it a very inviting place to stay. Have to say the resident chickens & cats make it particularly fun and the bird watching is wonderful. There is a telescope available to watch the stars and if you are up early you can see the hot air balloons floating across the valley. We will definitely return for another visit and highly recommend it!
Welcome to The Good Earth! Our house is a charming super clean vacation rental with breathtaking views, located on the southern edge of Terrebonne Oregon. Our comfortable smoke free property offers all that you will need to relax and enjoy the beauty of the classic high desert. Just a note though.....if you are a smoker, PLEASE...seriously consider another property. Our entire neighborhood is non smoking due to the extreme fire danger that comes with the landscape here. Respect for our neighborhood and properties is important and we monitor this very closely. You are welcome in our home but if there is ANY sign of smoking in the area we will ask you to leave with no refund. With that being said....expect to enjoy northwest wine, or local beer of your choice, organic coffee, and fresh eggs from our chicken 'girls' housed on the property. We offer a three bedroom, two bath home with a very cool atrium nook and a spacious family room to accommodate additional guests. We are located on 2 acres high above our unique local town, and just minutes away from all types of outdoor recreation activities. 4 miles south on Hwy. 97 is Redmond with a great local vibe that includes lively bars, breweries, restaurants, and spot on coffee houses. 23 miles south is Bend, a mecca in the outdoor scene, 4.5 miles to the northeast Smith Rock State Park waits for your hiking boots to hit the trails beneath golden hued climbing walls. A complementary day use pass for all local Oregon State Parks is available for use during your stay. We are 40 minutes from the unique little community of Sisters at the base of the Cascades. Sisters is the home of towering pines, cool little boutiques, a killer quilt show, popular rodeo and a music filled fall folk festival. It is most importantly (to Cindy anyway) the gateway to the magic that is the timeless Metolius River. Skiing, hiking, fishing, biking, rock climbing, and boating are all within 15 minutes to an hour, as well as live theater, great wines, and over the top brewers. If you want to stay within a mile of home, Terrebonne has some awesome local spots that we visit often. Just ask us for our very local recommendations!! There are drop dead sunsets and soaking in the hot tub under brilliant stars. Come visit us and you will understand why we live here!
