About Robert (Bob) Stephan
Bob is a glass artist of some 40 plus years. Some glass blowing and some glass sculpture. His daughter frequently comes to blow glass in his furnace. The furnace runs seasonally in the colder months. The glass studio is below the Loft but is never a nuisance. His work is on display in a premier gallery down town.
Robert (Bob) Stephan purchased this Apartment in 1984
Why Robert (Bob) Stephan chose Asheville
Just a nice little get-away apartment, far from the madding crowd. Located outside of the Asheville city limits but less than 6 miles from downtown. Located above the owner's glass art studio and generally it will not be a bother for you to visit, but rarely is it tidy! And, in the colder months he will probably have his glass blowing furnace running with a full tank of hot glass. Bob, the owner, will entertain a studio visit or happily leave you alone to enjoy total privacy. Services abound in this wonderful town! Great restaurants, the Appalachian Trail and the mountains are not far away. Just about a two mile drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. Also, just a few miles south on the parkway, is the interesting Folk Art Center of the Southern Highlands. About 5 miles from the UNCA campus. The outdoors will certainly call you. Many art studios and galleries can occupy your time or just go wander the quaint city streets. Asheville is well known as a center for micro-breweries if you’re so inclined. The internationally famous and historic Grove Park Inn is only a short drive and is a fascinating place to visit and wander. And the Vanderbilt Estate is a wonderful local attraction which should be on most peoples 'to do list'. (Local secret... We recommend taking a small flashlight when visiting the Biltmore Estate to be able to enjoy their art which may be in the darker corners of the rooms) The owners, Bob and Peggy have lived here since 1984 and may be able to guide you to a few more interesting places. Asheville is calling you, can you hear it?

Wonderful Apt and Superb Host!
What a relaxing and refreshing space! Nestled in the woods for privacy and quiet time, but just a quick drive to the hustle and bustle of Asheville and surrounding sights. We stayed at Bob's place for a girls weekend away, and it was perfect for the four of us (myself, two daughters and my mother). Plenty of natural light, very clean, and simply yet tastefully decorated. The apt and layout are well designed and have such a light and airy feel. We loved all the windows with views of the trees and foliage, and the artwork in the apt is beautiful. A bonus for us, our favorite grocery stores are just few minutes away, Fresh Market, Trader Joes, there's also a Harris Teeters. Bob was out of town the weekend we stayed but he made sure to have someone else nearby and available to us if we needed. But Bob was never completely out of touch and even checked in with us our first night to make sure we had arrived and everything was ok. I can’t emphasize enough how comfortable and welcoming the apt was, especially after a long day of sightseeing and activities! Everything we needed was right there (even coffee, tea, hot cocoa for the kids, soap and shampoo…those basic things I seem to always forget to bring). Thank you Bob! I hope to come back to your place again with my husband, meet you in person and see more of your art :).
I'm amused that you think Asheville has a 'hustle and bustle'! I'm happy you were pleased with my 'Studio Loft' and that you enjoyed Asheville. Everything you mentioned was what I intended for my space. Of course you will be welcomed back at any time. There is so much more to explore around here!
Impeccably clean, furnished, stocked with a very gracious host.
Bob's place is very cozy, super clean with very thoughtful touches. We didn't get to meet him in person but he was very gracious via messages. So why 3 stars? This studio loft is described as a 2 bedroom apartment. It isn't 2 separate, private bedrooms. It is 2 spaces. The walls do not go to the ceiling between any of the rooms (with exception of the bathroom). So essentially it is one big space with partitions between the "rooms." This didn't work well for us as my husband snores and is very restless through the night which is why we always book separate bedrooms. I didn't notice someone else's review about this until it was too late to cancel. Bob did offer the downstairs to his personal home which I thought was very sweet. The first night we didn't feel comfortable taking him up on the offer, the 2nd night we HAD to because we both didn't sleep and the third night we were locked out for whatever reason, 4th night we didn't bother? We were out every day looking at homes to buy so by the time we got back in the evening we were exhausted and sleep just didn't (couldn't) happen. Very unfortunate. Anyway, the space is quite lovely and his art is amazing. It's close to downtown which was great! I feel this property should have been described accurately so that people in our type of situation could make a more informed decision.
Couldn't Have Happier
Great location. Beautiful country setting yet very close to everything in Asheville. We visit Asheville occasionally and plan on checking on it's availability as our first option when visiting Asheville. Be sure to follow Web Cove Rd all the way to the Blue Ridge Parkway, even though it becomes a gravel road it is a nice scenic drive.
Very nice rental, very clean!
Rental was pretty much as described. Very clean and fully stocked with everything. The only thing that I would mention is that although it says it's a two bedroom it is really two rooms with a wall separating-not to the ceiling, I am assuming because of the air conditioning so air can circulate. If you need privacy it may not be the best idea for two couples. Bob was the perfect host and very helpful with any questions that we had.
Great Stay in Cozy Flat
We had a wonderful time in this rental over a long weekend in Asheville. Great location--maybe a ten minute ride to downtown...plus access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bob was an excellent host and very easy to work with. We visit Asheville often and plan to return!
Perfect location near Asheville
