At the edge of the village of Port Elizabeth with broad view of harbour and sea, a gorgeous location to explore the Caribbean way of life: alone, as a couple, with friends, or with the entire family. The perfect starting point to explore the island of Bequia: ten minutes walking distance down the hill into the village, to the next supermarket and to the ferry. 15 minutes to the nearest beach. The Rainbow Castle, built in 2005, is a German/Caribbean Joint Venture. Who likes to discover the Caribbean and its people beyond the typical tourism paths, is at the right spot here. Arrival: Since St. Vincent & The Grenadines do not have a big international airport, you have to make your way by the neighbouring islands like Barbados, St. Lucia or Martinique. The flight costs are about 800 € from Europe. The island state of St. Vincent & The Grenadines is located about 10 flight hours from middle Europe. From Germany only Condor offers weekly direct connections to Barbados (best connecting flights to St. Vincent & The Grenadines). From here you continue in a prop airliner of a Caribbean airline. E.g. either with Mustique Airways directly to Bequia or at a lower price with LIAT to Kingstown, St. Vincent (approx. 150 €) and then to Port Elizabeth by ferry (about 5 €). The passage takes one hour and is the perfect way to get yourself into the right mood for your Caribbean holiday in the tenth happiest country of the world relating to contentment, expectancy of life and ecological awareness, according to the Happy Planet Index from July 2006.
Travel season & weather: The climate is tropical with temperatures between 23°C and 31°C, water temperature 25°C to 28°C. Best travel season and High Season are the months with few rain December to May. During the rest of the year, in the Low Season, the climate is more unsettled and humide, although there can be long sunny periods too. Hurricane season is from July to October. Luckily St. Vincent & The Grenadines are at the southern edge of the Caribbean hurricane-belt and the island has not been hit significantly for the last 40 years. Most tropical storms flash by north.
Activities: For water sports fans and ocean lovers Bequia is paradise: sailing, surfing, swimming, snorkeling, diving – the soft Caribbean Sea keeps what her turquoise colours promise to the eye. The annual Bequia-Easter-Regatta, that lasts four days, and the Carnival in June are the highlights of the island's social and cultural life. That’s when people make a several-day celebration out of their desire to bust the routine of their everyday life with sports, rum and music. The vitality is catching. As a contrast to the beach life of Bequia one day excursions to the main island of St. Vincent are well worth while. With a height of 1200 meters the still active volcano Soufrière is the island’s true sovereign. The last dangerous volcanic eruption happened at Good Friday in the year of Independence 1979. Mount Soufrière covers the island’s entire northern third. Who feels capable of it, should definitely dare the 3 hour hike to the crater with a guide, weather permitting (organized tours possible).
Apartment 1 (40 m²) is located on the ground floor. It has one bedroom (double and single bed), shower/toilet, a bright kitchen/living and a private veranda. Occupancy of up to 3 people.
We stayed in the first floor apt. It far exceeded our expectations and is a steal compared to other available accommodations.
Conrad picked us up from the ferry and gave us an orientation tour of the downtown area which we much appreciated. The apartment was clean, great water pressure for being so high up, with all amenities you will need.
Conrad is a great host and super helpful. He is known to everyone in town. We woke up the morning after our arrival to a breakfast of fresh fruits from Conrad's garden in the back.
The house is located in a residential part of town, away from the tourists. Neighbors are super friendly and helpful. Short walk down to town, would recommend taking a taxi (plentiful, inexpensive, friendly drivers) back up from town as the incline is pretty steep.
Ina was super responsive to my questions prior and after booking.
If you go to Bequia, eat at the Green Bolley and the Port Hole. Great local flavor, low-cost.
Overall, the apt and location exceeded expectations, hosts are friendly/super helpful.
I stayed here for a total of 7 weeks, initially in the larger apartment with friends and after they left I moved into the smaller apartment. Both were well equipped and very clean. Conrad and Ina are very hospitable and do everything they can to ensure that you have an enjoyable and rewarding visit. They are always looking at ways to improve their guests' experience, and whilst I was there installed a WiFi booster which ensures there is now a good signal throughout the property. The pictures show that Rainbow Castle has wonderful views, which means it is high above the town and the road is steep which is not a major problem going down, but is quite strenuous coming back! I am over 70 and usually walked it, but a taxi is quite cheap $15 EC, which is less than £4 or $5 US. The closest beach is only 20 minutes walk and there are others further on, I walked to Lower Bay in about 35 minutes from the apartment and across the island to Industry and Friendship Bays in 45 minutes and so if you like walking and are fit the whole island is available to you by foot from Rainbow Castle.
We went back to the island after more than 25 years. I proposed to my wife there exactly 30 years ago. This time with our sons and a couple of friends of them. Stayed almost 4 weeks. Bequia is the same or even better. Not destroyed by tourism. The extra amount of tourists have, for a visitor, made the Island even better. More restaurants and bars.
Being 50+ we where a little bit nervous about renting a place. Would we find it? Was it as nice as in the pictures?
We did not even get off the ferry before Conrad found us. Got us in a taxi and brought us up to this wonderful little coco-watch in the Bequian alpes. A ten minuts stroll or a 5 us taxiride away from everything. Surrounded by the local community and away from tourists. A view that is absolutly wonderful. Situated high up on the hillside that makes it naturally airconditioned even on the leward side of the island. It is as nice as in the pictures, even nicer.
Conrad is a person with a lot of integrity. He is around when you need him and helps you out. Still you do not have the feeling that stay in anybodies home. A perfect neighbour that you would like to have back home.
The balcony faces 3 different directions. You can watch the world and nobody can watch you.
Good equipment. Nice and clean. I can imaging myself living there 30 years ago. The youngsters had a balI and stayed up all the nights, as we did in the beginning of the -80. I can imaging myself stying there 30 years from now, as long as I can climb a couple of stairs.
This place is what you make it into. We can promise that it doesn´t take a lot of imagination to make it into an absolutly perfect stay. We will be back, and it will not take another 25 years.
I live in St Vincent and so know the area well and must say that my guests and I were thoroughly impressed with this place. The only thing that caused us to rate this establishment as Good rather than Excellent was that one guest was shocked as a result of an electrical problem from the electric shower.

Tres belle situation de l'appartement avec une vue magnifique sur Port Elysabeth et il est très facile de rejoindre les plages et les restaurants de l'île si l'on fait l'effort de marcher un peu , dans le cas contraire, vous avez à disposition des taxis bons marchés

Wir (Doris, Magdalene und Erik) verlebten wundervolle Tage auf sicher einer der schönsten Inseln der Karibik. Das höhergelegene Quartier bot einen grossartien Blick auf die Admirality-Bay und auf Port Elizabeth, besonders vom grossen Balkon aus.
Die Wohnung war groß und geräumig, sehr sauber mit guter und kompletter Ausstattung.
Ina und Konrad waren liebenswürdige und hilfsbereite Gastgeber, die uns auch in kniffliger Situation zur Seite standen.

Bequia - in the ethnic Carib language, 'island of clouds' - is the largest of the Grenadines. For many years now, Bequia's spreading natural harbor has made it a popular meeting place for sailors from all over the world
Port Elizabeth, directly at the main harbor, is the main town. The island itself is only 7 sq. miles - about 14 sq. kilometers - and has around 5000 inhabitants. Traditionally, the people on Bequia lived from the sea, from boats, boat building, seafaring and whaling. In the meantime, tourism is the island's mainstay. Life in Bequia happens at its own easy pace. And anyone wanting to get to know the islanders better is sure of a friendly welcome. Bequia is so small that it's a great place to explore on foot, and has wonderful nature and seaside trails. If a set of wheels is what's called for, you'll also find cars, motorbikes, bicycles or taxis to rent.
