Welcome to Buttonwood Cottage. This elegant nautically inspired single family beach home sleeps 8 comfortably. We have 3 nicely appointed bedrooms and 2 full baths. The master BR has a king bed, the second BR a queen, and the third BR has 2 twin trundle beds that sleep 4.
The spacious dining room features a long hand-tooled solid wood table with a bonus bright corner desk for staying connected via WiFi. Nautical designer decorations are featured throughout the house and amenities include: fresh new bed and bath linens, beach towels, ceiling fans in just about every room, 2 new flat screen HDTVs, Netflix streamed, huge gourmet kitchen complete with wine cooler, a robust fresh herb garden, propane grill, indoor and outdoor dining tables; beach chairs to take to the white sand and an abundance of beach toys as well. Three bikes are also available
Fresh landscaping and palm tree breezes make the front deck ideal for relaxing. Privacy fencing, the herb garden and comfortable seating make the 35ft long rear porch even more appealing. Tropical accessories invite you to relax after a day of beaching, biking or shopping on the island. The addition of a new pool makes it a perfect day after returning from the beach.
We are situated in the heart of Anna Maria on Pine Ave, in the walkable “Green Village” sprinkled with residential cottages, retail shops and restaurants lining the street. The Gulf of Mexico and the Tampa Bay are a 3 block walk in either direction. Anna Maria has a free Island Trolley that runs every 20 -30 minutes, takes you anywhere on the 7 mile island and picks you & drops you off on Pine Ave, just steps from the cottage.
The city of Anna Maria has no fast food restaurants, no traffic lights and no high rises. It’s Old Florida at its best, when things were tranquil and living was easy. Whether your goal is to finish that good book you’ve been reading, stroll quaint island shops or gather your collection of seashells, it’s easily accomplished here.
Nature lovers will be amazed at the natural habitat of Anna Maria. Whether you’re a bird watcher, shell collector, fishing enthusiast, or master gardener, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. Our sugar sand beaches are strewn with seashells and are well populated by shore birds, sea turtles and dolphins.
Take a minute and picture yourself napping on a beach towel on the warm sand of the bay or Gulf of Mexico, all to the gentle sound of the surf. We look forward to your stay.
We have four absolutely amazing sons and two precious grandchildren. Their favorite place to be is on the island with Mimi and Geepa. Cooking, spending time with friends and family are our passion...and maybe a little Tampa Bay Rays baseball and NFL games.
Ruth Lyerly purchased this house in 2012
My husband's work takes him all over the world and nothing is more relaxing for him than to drive 20 minutes from home and feel as though he's on vacation. Our middle son is a charter captain on the island, Captain Josh, which comes in quite handy for a fishing outing or supplies for a Friday night fish fry. We will retire on this island.
All of our out of town friends and family who have vacationed on AMI enjoy the quaint feel of the island and the ability to walk almost anywhere.....we couldn't agree more.
I can't say enough about this darling home. My husband and I travelled to Anna Maria for the first time for our yearly anniversary trip and we couldn't have been happier. We typically frequent 30A beaches (Rosemary, Grayton, Seaside) so we weren't sure how we would like Anna Maria. Let me just say...we loved it. Buttonwood was one of the reasons we fell in love. The home is so much more than we expected with several updates since the listed photos were taken. Spacious and cozy all at once and well equipped doesn't begin to cover the amenities. You literally only need your clothes. From the pool to the porches, we couldn't have been more pleased. We are already looking at our calendar and can't wait to book at Buttonwood again. This time for longer than 1 week! Thank you again, Ruth for being a wonderful host and for providing a lovely home for so many to enjoy.
My mom and I spent a week at Buttonwood with our dog just recently- you know how sometimes you anticipate something for a long time and it doesn't end up living up to your expectations? This was SO not the case with Buttonwood! This vacation far surpassed our expectations. Ruth was so nice to work with and we were squealing like little kids upon entering Buttonwood on Saturday evening- the pictures do NOT disappoint and there have even been nice updates since the photos. The house is spacious and, as all others have indicated, beautifully decorated! The front porch was so lovely to have morning coffee (and evening martinis!) on and the backyard was a gem- refreshing pool, lots of places to lounge in and out of the sun. Pine Avenue is adorable- definitely try the Donut Experiment- freshly made donuts while you wait. Didn't seem that a ton of places were dog friendly so we ate out once at Harry's, mostly utilized the well-equipped kitchen, and had lunch in Bradenton at a fabulous place on the river called Pier 22. We were so sad to leave and hope to be back one day. Truly one of the most relaxing, restorative vacations ever! Oh, and the waters of Tampa Bay and the Gulf were simply amazing!!
I took my mother and 2 boys for a beach vacation. It was an amazing vacation. We felt right at home and in awe when we arrived to the cottage. It was so beautiful and comfortable. We never wanted to leave! It had everything we needed. It is beautifully decorated and peaceful. Kitchen is stocked and you loved to just be in the kitchen! My boys loved the family room. Out back was a nice porch. Loved watching all the little lizards! Pool is smaller but my boys didn't mind. Location is amazing!! Right on Pine street close to beach and the pier. I went to look for dolphins. We did see 1 swimming off both piers on different days. You have to visit the donut shop and taco place just down the street. Next door is a cute store with cheese, bread and olives. A market farther down. Shopping in the little shops was so much fun! We loved the beach! It was so nice and peaceful. Boys loved looking for shells and sea life. It was not overly crowed. We felt we found a part of paradise at Buttonwood cottage and Anna Maria Island! I am taking my husband back in Oct and my boys want to go back next summer!!
We've stayed here before and hope to stay every year! Amazing place and owner!
We had a lovely stay. The sentiments of the other reviews are exactly accurate. This is a lovely home in an excellent location.
We have traveled quite a bit and have rented many VRBO homes through the years. We have always had very good experiences, but Buttonwood is certainly now among our "top favorites". As so many have already commented, the home is spacious, "upscale-beachy", immaculately clean and perfectly located on Pine Avenue within an easy walk of the beach and the Pier area, and a quick stroll to the different restaurants and shops. It is sufficiently set back from the road, and the front is so generously landscaped, that you don't feel like you are "right on the street." The front porch is a delight for morning coffee--or a romantic evening dinner. The back patio and pool are equally nice for lazying around. I particularly like dealing directly with the "real" owner when renting through VRBO (as opposed to a management company). Ruth was an absolute delight, very easy to work with, and immediately available for any questions that popped up. The house is outfitted with everything you could think of. The beach wagon, chairs, coolers, umbrella, toys, etc. were used every day. One other thing. The prices on this cottage are all-inclusive. This definitely needs to be factored if you are comparing it against other cottages. There is no additional cleaning fee, taxes, charges...all of which add up. In short...a gem of a beach cottage near a gem of a beach. We are home now. But I am still there is my mind. Sigh.
Pine Ave has been coined the 'Greenest little Main St in America.' This beach house is nestled among shops, cottages and restaurants on Pine Ave in Anna Maria. These shops and restaurants are creating quite a buzz. So much so that 5 of our unique shops were recently featured in Southern Living magazine.
