This is our second trip to this area of France - and staying here made it the most memorable! How lovely it is to view the hills and valleys around this very beautiful farmhouse. Thank you for sharing your home.
This property is a gem. This was our first visit to this region of France and this home and the surrounding countryside were more spectacular and satisfying than we ever could have imagined. We would come back from canoeing on the river at the end of the day, to food fresh from a local market and excellent local wine and be totally happy. Wonderful night markets are not far away and we visited several and dined with the locals who were welcoming and cordial. Being able to bring home a box of local wine for 12 Euros or a fine bottle for 20 was remarkable. There is a wonderful wine shop in le Bugue. Don't miss it. The house and property were the star attraction however, and we ate each meal outside near the garden, accompanied by hummingbirds, butterflies and blue tits, and the fragrant smell of white roses and lavender which they encouraged us to enjoy, and we did. This was one of the most memorable vacations we have ever enjoyed, and the one closest to paradise.
We are frequent visitors to this region of France but our trip was hugely enhanced this year by selecting Le Plassial as our base. This is a wonderful property where attention to detail is evident from arrival and never fails to disappoint as the week progresses. We feel very fortunate that Carl has chosen to rent out his wonderful house and to allow us the opportunity to have the perfect base in the Dordogne. As always we enjoyed cycling and taking in the wonderful scenery while visiting the local villages including Belves, Cadouin, Limeuil and Beynac but all of this was extra special because we knew that at the end of a tiring day, we would return to this beautiful house. Some of the main features which were important to us were: excellent kitchen, high quality bathrooms, fantastic and very tasteful furnishings, comfortable bed with lovely linen and a great outdoor area that you never tire of enjoying until the end of every day. This house will live long in the memory!
How could you not love this house; a perfect confluence of original structure and modern amenities, all in great style. We adored the terrace. I can still smell the lavender, rosemary and cloves! Loved visiting Cadouin, Limeuil, Tremolat, Rocamadour and Chateau Beynac, among other places. Had wonderful food everywhere, but most memorable were Le Chambellan in LeCoux and Les Truffieres in Tremolat: brilliant!
My husband and I stayed at Le Plassial in August 2010. For once we were not disappointed with the way in which a property had been described on the internet, and the reality. We consider ourselves fussy travelers, and we were completely enchanted. The house is gorgeous, beautifully renovated and furnished, has lovely modern bathrooms and a wonderful view for drinks and dinner on the terrace. It is perfectly situated in the Perigord Noir, close to fabulous food markets and interesting places to visit. I have recommended the house to everyone I know and we will certainly be back (if I didn't miss my cat so much we may never have left!).
Le Plassial could be summed up in one word 'beautiful' but that would not really do it justice.
It is the most charming house in a perfect setting for tranquillity and an ideal location for exploring the Dordogne. The decor has that lovely mix of style, elegance and comfort ... very rare these days. We were very sad to leave it and are constantly looking at our photos to hold on to the wonderful memories we have of our time there.
The local wine cave should be your first port of call, the owners are really helpful, and for novices like us, helped us to choose wines which we thoroughly enjoyed. The local shop supplies the best cakes and bread around too.
Michael and Belinda were very helpful from start to finish and we followed their advice on places to see and were not disappointed. The house has a really good information pack and as we were only there for one week it helped us to choose what we wanted to do and see to make the most of our short time there.
We visited St Cyprien Market, which can get crowded but has loads of character. We also took a canoe out for half a day, and visited Beynac, which is spectacular. Chateau Milandes, the former home of Josephine Baker, is wonderful and we would recommend attending one of the night markets where you get the chance to sit with local people and enjoy the wonderful food. Sarlat was another 'must' for us, as was the visit to Bordeaux on our way home.
Our sincere thanks go to Michael and Belinda for providing us with such detailed information on the property and the surrounding area and for providing such impeccable service .... but we would also like to thank Carl for allowing us the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful home and we hope we have the opportunity to come back.
The only thing that might improve Le Plassial is to have some sort of plunge pool, as it did get very hot whilst we were there but it would be difficult to know where to put one without it altering the perfect setting.
Sitting out on the terrace at night enjoying a good meal was heaven.
A wonderful place to stay!
We stayed at "Le Plassial" between 17th - 24th July 2010. The accommodaion was spacious, comfortable extremely well equipped. We felt at home almost immediately. The house is full of character with many original features but is equipped to a modern standard. The south facing garden is very tranquil. However, our days were mainly spent exploring the beautiful local countryside by car and bicycle and visiting numerous places of interest. We can recommend a visit to Sarlat on market day (saturdays & wednesdays), canoeing down the Dordogne and walking in the area around La Roque Gageac.
We can thoroughly recommend this holiday property.

There is a wide choice of supermarkets at nearby Le Bugue and also in St Cyprien (both under 3 miles). Restaurants abound in the area, with everything from 'Ferme Auberge' (traditional Perigordian cooking in the farmhouse kitchen) to Michelin starred sophistication. Must-see visitor sites such as Sarlat and the Lascaux cave are within about half an hours drive - you really are in the heart of Dordogne here!
