L’Alize, a spacious luxury vacation home, gives serious privacy with unspoiled beauty while within a mile of the most desirable tourist beaches and activities Roatan has to offer- a rare find. The home was built by one of Roatan’s premier builders in 2009. The building techniques and materials reflect attention to detail and quality construction. Keen usage of space, and maximization of views and sea breezes, remind one that this exquisite home was built to be enjoyed year round by the builder himself. Probably the aspect guests mention the most, is the incredible beauty coupled with an unusual privacy. Not only is the home located on its own acre of land, with pristine jungle abutting the Caribbean, but the home itself has multiple porches and several lounges for guests to have time alone with plenty of large spaces to have time together.
Nestled above a private cove beach (locally called a “keyhole”) on the South shore of the tropical island of Roatan, this large luxury home, enjoys both a constant sea breeze and a dramatic view of the Caribbean. L’Alizé derives its name from the French word for African trade winds, (alizés) which flow East to West during the warmest months of the year. These dramatic winds account for a such a surprising cooling effect on the hottest days, that it quickly becomes clear why Roatan’s earliest towns settled on the South side of the island where these winds rarely fail to cool and refresh while they keep the bugs in check. In January one guest wrote, "We toured the whole island and there isn't a more beautiful property on Roatan. I didn't use any Deet and didn't get a bite."
In 2014 L'Alize was awarded the distinction of a luxury destination for Homeaway’s Luxury Rentals site, by Andrew Harper, a leading luxury travel company TM, . One of 5 luxury rental properties on Roatan which have qualified for this prestigious rating (see luxury.homeaway ).

Owners live and work in Central America. L'Alizé's natural beauty and privacy provide a place to catch up on unfinished business. This is an ideal setting for uninterrupted reading, painting or writing. With their children they enjoy exploring caves, the rope swing and snorkeling.
Rosanne purchased this house in 2010
A true getaway. Nestled in dramatic untamed beauty on pristine turquoise shores with abundant wildlife, makes this home a refuge as well as a great place to celebrate family gatherings. Restaurants, and grocery stores are only minutes away.
L'Alizé has all the modern conveniences of home with the feel of an outpost on an uninhabited island. The view from the second floor great room took our breath away the first time and each time we visit. We never get used to the beauty.
The home is well maintained and regularly updated with the amenities we want to find.
Beautiful home in a secluded tropical paradise!

L'Alize is a lovely place with all the amenities of home. The kitchen on the second floor has plenty of counter space and everything you need to cook your favorite meals. The BBQ on the deck is perfect for grilling up some fish! It seems that there is a great view of the ocean from every point. Whether enjoying a leisurely brunch on the deck, dining at the large table while gazing through the double doors at the ocean, or sitting on the comfy couch to watch a movie or play games, the view is always right in front of you. The beach is just a short stroll away and is very private. The keyhole (ocean inlet) is really lovely to cool off in, or as an entrance to great snorkeling to the right and the left. No cruise ship tourists have been standing on the coral here! There are caves to explore, iguana to watch scurrying over the rocks and other beaches nearby to visit as well. Some people love to swim and snorkel and explore, while others enjoy laying out and working on their tan. I like to do both and this is the perfect place! The benefits of privacy come with the small cost of a very steep hill to get to the main road. A rental car would be very helpful, but it is possible to walk up the hill and flag down a taxi for the short drive to West Bay or West End. We also got the phone number of a taxi driver who dropped us off and just called him to come get us when we wanted to go into town. Gumbalimba park is very close with zip lines and plenty of wildlife (including birds that will perch on your head and monkeys that crawl across your shoulders!) The dolphin show at Anthony's Key resort is always fun as is the little museum there with some information about the islands. If you tire of the peace and quiet, you can head into West End for some excellent dining and live music at several venues on the weekends. L'Alize is an all around great place to vacation. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a little piece of paradise!
Owner response: Thank you for your lovely review. We hope you will come back soon to enjoy this “little piece of paradise” .

Rosanne's exquisite home could be a dump and the view/setting/landscape would still surpass any setting imaginable. The home was lovely, though, and Tish, Rosanne and Eddie tried to meet any need that we had while on the island. We visited much of the islands' offerings but found it so relaxing just to stay at L'Alize. Any group/family would be fortunate to spend a week in this remarkable home and setting.
My husband and I rented this house using luxury rentals at HomeAway. As a result, I had very high expectations of the home. While the home is nice, it is far from luxurious, and it certainly is not one of the nicest rental properties on the island. The furniture is very worn and uncomfortable, the inside of the house needs some minor repairs, and the window screens all have holes...meaning we couldn't open the doors and windows to enjoy the breeze without letting in the bugs. We also ran out of water two times while there, did not have any garbage bags nor paper towels. Edier and his family, who are all very nice, were only around on the last day of our visit. Finally, I found it a bit off putting that Tish offered us a discount at her dive shop in West End, and when we visited we were offered a dive that was $15 more expensive then any other dive we'd been on.
On the plus side, the views from the house are lovely, the breeze is very nice, and it certainly is a home large enough to accommodate big groups. A comfortable but not luxurious home.
First, Roatan is one of the best places on Earth. It is mostly unspoiled rainforest with the best diving in the world. Regardless of where you stay, I would highly recommend a vacation there.
If you decide to make the trip, I highly recommend this property. Roseanne, the owner, was a delight to work with leading up to our vacation, during the vacation, and afterward. We had a few little minor miscommunications (not her fault!) which were easily rectified via email on day one. I cannot speak highly enough of Roseanne and how easy to work with she is. We were there with 8 adults and 6 teenagers (4 families) for a little mini family reunion and it was the perfect place for us!
With regards to the property, there are a few things to be aware of. The trade winds on that side of the island can be intense. Frankly, it makes the heat/humidity bearable. However, it can also make the little beaches unusable, especially if you have smaller kids. Our kids are all teens. They enjoyed it, but it was very rough and they got tossed around a little. In the end, it didn't matter one single bit. We ended up spending more time at West End and West Bay, so we really weren't around much during the day. This would not prevent me from renting again as the rest of our experience was so outstanding. The guest house is pretty darn hot and doesn't get a lot of air movement because of its position behind the home. Roseanne tells me they are putting in new windows and A/C, so this will not be an issue.
The upsides to the property are that it is spacious with lots of bathrooms and an awesome kitchen/great room. The decks and patio face the sea with an awesome view and a breeze that totally negates the tropical heat/humidity. With the doors and windows open, the breeze runs through the house and allowed us to sleep most nights without the A/C on.
Now for the best part of the house; Edier and Olga. The onsite caretakers ARE AWESOME! Olga prepared our breakfasts and dinners every night. The fee for this, plus the tip and cost of groceries, worked out to less than $10 per person per day. SERIOUSLY? How can you beat that? On top of making it an actual vacation by not having to cook, it was way cheaper than eating those meals out. As for Edi, the man was like the butler in the movie, Mr. Deeds. Every time we turned around looking to see if he was there to pick us up, he was there. He was awesome. Having Edi drive us all over the island in the 15 passenger Toyota mini-bus was worth
How can a place be at once stunningly exotic and yet feel as secure and welcoming as home? L’Alize almost magically manages precisely this. Nestled alongside a massive hill, constantly refreshed with the strong tradewind breeze for which it is named, tropical flowers and coconuts at every turn, a pristine private beach… we loved every minute we were blessed to spend in this beautiful enclave.
Our extended family of eight, ranging in age from 8 to 83 years old, spent a week in L’Alize. I was a bit apprehensive about both ends of the age spectrum being able to remain safe (the former) and get around (the latter). My worries were quickly dispelled as we all settled into this absolutely lovely paradise. Yes, there are stairs, but they are manageable. The heat was my other concern, but this, too, was largely groundless. Thanks to the amazing breeze, we were very comfortable and never used the air conditioning.
The open design of the house with multitudes of balconies invites one to linger in blissful gazing across the landscape and sea. Inside, the tile floors, granite counters, comfortable furniture, lovely linens and tasteful artwork all merge to render the house an ideal tropical home. Peace pervades as surely as the salt air.
Olga’s meals were wonderful (my favorite was the beignet and fresh pineapple breakfast, but definitely enjoy the coconut and panko fish). The large Toyota SUV managed to carry all of us and our luggage and Eddie negotiated the crazy traffic with apparent ease.
Although many others have commented upon the private keyhole beach, I cannot complete this review without adding my own rapturous remembrance. The short walk there, which our 83-year-old negotiated with very little trouble, is itself beautiful. The beach is breath-taking with iron-shore (coral) sides, interesting shell and coral treasures washed up and significant wave action. Swim shoes recommended, but so worth the interface with the forces of pure wind, water and wildlife.
L’Alize was the perfect home base for an unforgettable week in paradise.
Our dive week on the island of Roatan began when we were met by Eddie, jack of all trades, sent to pick the eight of us up from the airport. Three minutes out of the airport and we began to see the value in having a local doing the driving. Eddie got us safely to Lalize and the view was captivating from the start. At the home we were met by Trish who gave us a thorough walk thru of the beautiful three level home. Clean, comfortable, and well appointed with tile and hardwood through out. Enormous decks surround the house on all three levels and the views of both ocean and forest spectacular. Snorkel gear, kayaks, and even a pair of local pay as you go cell phones with minutes already applied were made available to us. The owners have gone to great lengths to anticipate and provide for the needs of the guests and their efforts were greatly appreciated . Soon after our arrival we were off to our dive shop of choice , Reef Gliders, to check in and deposit our gear for a week of diving. On our return home we were greeted by the wonderful aroma of Olga's Island Chicken Curry! It was wonderful as was each meal she prepared for us through the week. With very little input we left the dining selections to Olga and without fail she delivered tasty and more than ample sized meals. Hiring Olga was one of our best decisions on this stay. As a suggestion, making simple suggestions to Olga about your preferences for things such as salad dressing choices, seafood or not, and requests for a protein such as eggs and bacon to accompany her wonderful breakfast beignets allow her to zero in on what you will enjoy most. Her cooking and light house work added so much to the relaxation of this trip I can not recommend taking advantage of this perk enough. I honestly believe that we saved twice what we spent and enjoyed our stay so much more because of Olga and her beautiful family who all pitched in. In the end it's like this, the property is beautiful and housed all eight of us in comfort and that should be enough, but there's more. What made this a truly incredible stay was the attention to detail, the availability of things such as the van, the cell phones and local information and contacts. Most of all, the staff , Tish, Olga and Eddie, and their wonderful family. Do not overlook this gem. We will return again.
A group of friends & I recently stayed at this beautiful property & could not have asked for anything more. Everyone on the staff is courteous & prompt, the house looks exactly as it does in the photos, and the owner's response time is amazing. Everything that we needed was immediately taken care of. Do yourself a favor and try Olga's cooking at least once- we had her prepare 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners, and both were very delicious!
All the rooms are clean and spacious, the towels & linens were very soft, and the views from the balconies are gorgeous. There are a lot of steps, so prepare to get a workout- but we actually enjoyed that! It kept us in shape on our lazy vacation lol. The house came with 2 cell phones, which came in handy for calling different places around the island.
We especially enjoyed snorkeling around the shipwreck in our private keyhole beach and Gumbalimba Park's zip-lining entrance is literally across the main street. West Bay really is 5 mins away & is a beautiful beach. Definitely eat at the Vintage Pearl if you can, the food is really amazing. Also, Little French Key is not to be missed.
Overall, we all had an amazing time. You definitely will not be disappointed with this property. Great location, great house, great staff- what more could you ask for?!?
