Mentone Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, (sleeps 4-6)

Whether you come to relax, browse through quaint shops, or explore the natural beauty of Mentone, Chestnut Oaks is the perfect getaway for you.

Our cottage, nestled on the west brow of Lookout Mountain between the historic town of Mentone and Desoto State Park, has a wrap-a-round porch with rockers to enjoy the breathtaking view.

Even though our cottage is equipped with satellite TV which means you won't miss your favorite ball game in the fall, most of you will leave it off to enjoy your restful surroundings. The large porch is the perfect place to enjoy the cool shade of the trees in the summer and colorful fall. The winter months reveal the beauty of the valley below and the ridges in the distance.

Family, friends, or just the two of you can enjoy the rustic pine paneled 'gathering room' where you can read books, play cards or board games, watch TV, or cook up something is the fully equipped kitchen. On a chilly day enjoy a fire in the gas log stove on the stone hearth. There is a small stone patio with a charcoal grill for your cookouts.

The two bedrooms each have a queen sized bed with linens and warm comforts. Each room has storage space in chest of drawers and good closet space. There's a cot in one bedroom. The sofa opens to sleep two if needed. The two bathrooms are equipped with towels, tissue, and hand soap.

The cottage is located 4.6 miles from downtown Mentone and 2 miles from Desoto State Park. Some of the many activities available for you include incredible water falls, hiking, horseback riding at the Dude Ranch, snow skiing at Cloudmont, and golf at Lil Mole Run. Go to Desoto State park or the Canyon Center for more information on events provided. Try the shops in Mentone. Don't miss the antiques at White Elephant, the art at Kamama's, or the pottery at Miracle Pottery.

If you don't want to cook at the cottage, try some of the wonderful restaurants in Mentone. Some of our favorite eats are found at Wildflower Cafe, J. Spencers, Moonlight Bistro, Mentone Springs Hotel, and special treats at Kamamas.

About Susan Collins, Southern Properties Agency

My husband and I love the Mentone area, and in the past we enjoyed staying in rented cabins and the state park. We live 2 hours away, and in 2005 we purchased a cabin of our own on the west brow. We enjoy the area so much, we purchased land and built another cottage for renters and 'spill over' room for our family gatherings. Our cottage is managed by Susan Collins with Southern Properties Agency.

Why Susan Collins, Southern Properties Agency chose Alabama Mountains

Several years ago my husband and I fell in love with Mentone and this area of Lookout Mountain. We love the West brow view with its beautiful sunsets and distant sounds of the trains traveling in the valley to Chattanooga. In 2006, we purchased land directly across from Comer Boy Scout Camp on Desoto Parkway (County Road 89) and built our Chestnut Oaks in the quaint Mentone style on the edge of the west brow.

Beautiful cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and a family friend spent the weekend in this beautiful cabin. We really enjoyed the spacious living area and the view from the deck. We will definitely stay here again.

Family scout trip

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here because of it's close proximity to Comer Scout Camp where my three grandboys were for the week. It was directly across the road as I was told and convenient for my son to pop in at times to keep us informed. It was very clean and well organized with all the necessary housekeeping items. There was stuff left in drawers and closets from previous renters, but it didn't bother us. I agree with the reviewer that there needs to be some kind of seating other than rocking chairs in the gathering room. Also, the beds were very firm for our taste. The rental procedure was easy and laid back with no hoops to jump through as I have had to do with other rentals. It is close to two other cabins, but very quiet and peaceful. We totally enjoyed the porch and rockers there. Everyone had a good time just chilling and being together and exploring the Mentone area.

weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

I had a weekend with my 2 daughters and 3 yr old granddaughter. The cabin was wonderful. We sure did enjoy our time there. The only suggestions I have are: needs a better visible (bigger) cabin number facing the road and also need more comfortable seating, the rocking chairs are great for porch but not so good in living room. I hope we can make this a yearly trip!

Our small group of six were very comfortable and well stocked with necessaries. The cabin works well with the open common space which is nicely designed. The back porch provides a generous space for exercise and also sitting in the comfy rocking chairs to talk and read.

Owner's Response: We're glad that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage in Mentone. The time away with friends is so important and what better place than in our great room and big porch. For those coming this fall, the leaves are showing their beauty, and the slight chill in the air is great for some hiking. We hope you can come back for another great visit.

A quiet , relaxing, week with a stunning view!

  • 5 of 5

This cute cottage was just the place for my husband and I to spend a week for some quiet time. The cottage was just as described,; very clean and neat, and nestled on the edge of the Lookout Mountain with a beautiful view of the valley below. We spent more than a few hours on the porch, in the rocking chairs admiring the view and the bird population. It was cozy and warm with a great kitchen, comfortable beds, and DISH television(very important for hubby to watch ballgames! ) We were able to play golf at a nearby golf course, Little Mole Run, and the course was challenging and fun. Also there are great, family owned resaturants in Mentone so that you can enjoy a night out of the kitchen. We definitely plan to come again as quiet getaways are a must for us.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had a good visit, and we hope you will be able to come again. The cold weather is a good time to visit the Orbix glass blower, Miracle Pottery, and Kamamas Art Gallery. We're hoping for a cold winter for the snow skiing at Cloudmont! While you're here at Chestnut Oaks, you can enjoy a warm fire with the gas log stove.
