About Eddie Dillon

We are a family of 5 who love to travel the world! We found this diamond in the rough on a trip in the early 2000's while searching for a safe place to learn Spanish.

What an amazing resort in a beautiful country. Our kids love it here and enjoy their summers practicing the language, swimming and hiking.

You will truly enjoy your stay in our Costa Rican home!

Eddie Dillon purchased this condo in 2006

Why Eddie Dillon chose Costa Rica

The beauty, safety, and tranquility. The sunsets are the best in the world. (The images do not do this place justice!)

The resort is first class all the way!

FYI:

Many of our friends escape their 'normal routine' here in this very unit, often leaving the children with the grandparents. It is a great honeymoon spot as well!

What makes this condo unique

Friendly and helpful staff! Local flare and flavor. You must rent the ATVs and ride on the beaches and across the streams through the rainforest to take the canopy tours. Just head down to the beach and sign up!

Try the restaurants on property or the bars in Brasilito and Flamingo.

Sneak out one night and head up to the top of Flaming to a 5 Diamond french restaurant for drinks.

Make sure you keep your eyes peeled while enjoying your walks around the resort. There are many monkeys, iguanas, and acoutis!

Don't forget to take a peek at Central America's largest swimming pool next to the beach on your way to the hotel casino!

You can't beat this place.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you! What a nice treat for my wife and I. We enjoyed this resort and all of it's amenities, especially the beach club. We knew that the condos were not on the beach front and would have to ride shuttles (free, as described) and were ok with that. The bar tenders and servers at the club were attentive. Olber in the rentals office was great to help us book trips. The Massages on the beach were fantastic.

We didn't spend a lot of time in the unit, except at night, but it was easy to get to, clean, and private. We had the pool to ourselves for two days.

The owners were nice and easy to communicate with. He saved me some money on web fees. Also, there is a resort fee you have to pay but it is worth it. You get discounts on the food and drinks, so we made our money back after the third day.

We did ask the resort to clean the unit one day during the trip. It was $65. Kind of steep but it was ok. (Probably just skip it and get a few supplies at the grocery 5 minutes away.) Definately recommend getting a car for a few days to explore the area (get groceries and eat local)

Overall, nice place and really good resort. Would recommend it to other couples.

Thanks, Guys!

A Wonderful Place To Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Costa Rica and it was wonderful!!! The condo was just right for our family. We had plenty of room and loved that it was on the first floor. It has great access to the pool at our condo. The kitchen had everything that we needed and more. We loved to sit on the patio and enjoy the beautiful view. It was a lot of fun to go to the beach club and enjoy the pool there as well. We had great service at the beach club resturant and enjoyed the beautiful sunset from the beach. Our family looks forward to staying there again in the future.

Ok for two.

  • 3 of 5

Our biggest concern was the pull-out full size couch. My daughter of 110 lbs. said it was uncomfortable. I tried it. the matt sunk badly and the under webbing and springs are shot. I tried it and being a whole 170 lbs. could feel like I was laying on a series of criss crosses of ropes, thru the mattress. I couldn't advertise it as sleeping for 4. We ended up using the single bed (in the master BR) pull out mattress on top of the full bed's cushions for a floor bed. It would be nice to add the following: dishwasher soap (we used dish soap that was provided), a broom to sweep the patio off, and a mop for the tile floor. We brought our own washing machine soap, none there.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We have since notified the concierge and rentals office about the lack of detergent etc. They are there to help you with these issues and we apologize you had an issue. The condo is set up more like a "one night hotel room." It should have a few small amenities for you to get by for a day or two. Most of our guests add on additional housekeeping through the concierge. Also, many of our guests do shop locally at the grocery store for supplies for a week long visit. As for the red sofa bed, we have notified the concierge to have the mattress repaired. Also, we noticed that in our original posting for this unit over 4 years ago, we stated it slept 2 adult and 2 children. Somewhere along the line, VRBO/HomeAway has called that "sleeps 4." We have since notified them and they were to change that. (FYI: We do sleep two adults in the bed, one 10 yr old in the tan sleeper sofa in the main bedroom and one 5 yr old on the red sofa bed.) It should be noted that the red sofa is not to be slept on. This info has helped us along with future travelers. We are glad that you did have fun in Costa Rica with all of it's beauty! Pura Vida

Nice place, but not close to beach

  • 4 of 5

The condo is very clean with lots of room. The patio table was nice to sit at for breakfast and watch the birds. The pool and the grounds were well kept. Nice and quiet which we enjoyed. The pictures and the map on the website were a little misleading as to the proximity to the beach. It appears the beach is close. No it's not. It's a 7 minute drive to the beach and beach club. It wasn't a problem because we had a car, but it wasn't what we were expecting. The condo is actually located near the entrance at the southeast corner of the Westin property near 180. The Beach Club was really nice with lounge chairs, towels, paddleboards, kayaks and life jackets for free. The beach is absolutely beautiful with white sand and clear blue water. It wasn't crowded at all and very few vendors bothering you. We spent a lot of time at the beach. The bartenders didn't come to the beach much, but you could walk to the bar and get anything you wanted. Drinks were expensive, but that's normal for a resort. We only ate at the Catalinas restaurant a few times. This is really the only restaurant that you can go to anytime as a condo renter. The food was very good, but again expensive, even with the 15% discount you get as a condo renter. We had trouble eating at the other restaurants on the property because we weren't allowed for lunch OR we didn't have reservations for dinner. You MUST make reservations the day before for dinner which is a little difficult for us as we are very spontaneous. We mostly ate at the surrounding restaurants in Brasalito & Flamingo (looked them up on tripadvisor.com). Lots of good ones.

Here are a few minor items at the condo that would be helpful: more than 2 tiny bars of soap for a week's stay, dishwasher detergent for 1 or 2 loads of dishes, coffee maker filters, small amount of laundry detergent to wash towels, a chair in the living area that didn't feel like you are sitting in a hole, a safe where the "0" works, so your stuff doesn't get locked in, bigger TV's (I've never seen such tiny TV's), a concierge that paid attention to when you were checking out, so that the office doesn't shut off your keys the day before you are actually leaving. These are all small things, but it's these things that make the difference. Overall, I liked the condo and would recommend it as long as you realize you will have to drive to the beach or take their shuttle. The entire Westin property is gorgeous and the employees are very pleasant.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the very thorough and detailed review of the condos at The Westin Playa Conchal. This should really help any future renters we may have. Unfortunately, VRBO and Google Maps can’t pinpoint any of the 5 condo developments on the property. All condos on this entire property are on the mountainside of the golf course and the hotel is next to the beach. There are free shuttles available to take you to the beach, club, restaurants, hotel etc. (All 2-7 minutes away.) Glad you adventured out and found some great local spots! We definitely recommend making reservations for formal meals in the hotel but we always eat and shop for groceries off property in the surrounding towns of Brasilito (2 min), Huacuas (3 minutes), Flamingo (10 minutes), and Tamirindo (20 minutes.) Our family always rents a car for the freedom and adventure of Costa Rica. We get groceries (food/shampoo/kitchen supplies, etc.) from 3-4 different stores in the area. (The best are on the road to Tamirindo.) The condo is set up for a 2-3 day visit. If you stay longer, please plan accordingly by shopping locally, setting up additional housekeeping or bring items you need from home. Thanks again for the review and the recommendations. We will continue to improve the service and concierge staff. (They are there for you!) We are glad that you had a great time in Costa Rica.

Best Trip Ever!

  • 5 of 5

This vacation to Costa Rica was amazing. There is truly something for everyone at this resort. The beaches were clean and offered spectacular views of the ocean. The resort club is conveniently located next to the beach, so our family had easy access to the swimming pools, kayaks, and paddle-boards. The tropical, warm water provided hours of fun and we enjoyed the sunset strolls on the sand. Our children saw many new plants and animals, especially monkeys and iguanas. Don't worry - the monkeys are in the trees and the iguanas are surprisingly peaceful! At the end of each day we returned to our condo for a great night's sleep and to plan the adventures for the following day. Our condo looked exactly like the photos! There was plenty of room for the entire family to spread out at this location. The shower and bath were both spacious and the kitchen had everything we needed. If interested, there are local grocery stores and restaurants just a few minutes from the resort. While on our stay, we found it easy to arrange ATV rides and zip-line canopy tours. Shopping and exploring in the quaint, nearby towns also offered us the chance to see even more of this country. This was the best trip ever because of the wonderful condo and location! The condo owners have thought of everything - your job is to relax and have fun.

Loved our stay!

  • 5 of 5

Great rental! Ground level, clean, spacious and room to move! When we arrived we were treated great! Melissa met us late evening and showed up around the condo, we arranged to have the kitchen stocked and Mellissa bought everything we needed! Thanks! The resort is easy to get around by the shuttle, and we never had to wait more than 10 minutes, you call and they give you a pick up time! It runs until 10 at night. One night we went to dinner at the Weston and stayed out later than 10 and we walked home, only 20 min. That is another perk you can access the restaurants on the resort! This area is quiet which was fine with us but if you want late night excitement not the place. We rented a car at the Reserva Conchal Office for a few days and went to Tarimindito, Playa Coco, Flamingo Beach! Melissa also arranged a trip for us to La Fontuna and we stayed at a wonderful spa hotel http://www.arenal.net/hotel/luxury/arenal-kioro/index.html . You can also walk to the small town of Bracilla for groceries, a bit of shopping .

Hope we can come back soon! Sunny, beautiful beaches!

Un Muy Bonito Apartamento

  • 5 of 5

Gracias.
