Beautiful family cottage with 2 1/2 baths that sleeps 8 with all new appliances and furnishings in a private association with stunning views of Lake Michigan from the deck. Located off M-119 (Tunnel of Trees) one mile from Good Hart. Easy walking access to an uncrowded beach with a fire pit to enjoy the stars. Easy access to Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Pellston airport, Mackinaw City, and Mackinaw Island.
I grew up in Michigan and went to college at Michigan Technological University. I currently work for a pharmaceutical company in Princeton, New Jersey
Tom Hess purchased this cottage in 1963
My parents built this property in the 60's. I have been coming up to Northern Michigan for over 50 years. Even though I now live in the Philadelphia area, I continue to come back every year to enjoy the wildlife, views and stunning sunsets on Lake Michigan
The cottage is located in a private association just off M=119 (the Tunnel of Trees). This allows a very peaceful and quiet environment. You can walk and enjoy the beach without crowds. The fire pit on the beach allows you to view the unbelievable star display. The cottage has enough bedrooms and bathrooms to sleep multiple families. You are 1 mile away from the quaint store and shops in Good Hart. You are in close proximity to Mackinaw Island, Harbor Springs, Petoskey, and the Star Park in Mackinaw City.
We had a great time; clean house just as described; owner easy to work with. convenient distance to Mackinaw Island and Harbor Springs. thanks!
Our 3 generation (ages 20 to 90) family vacation was enjoyed by all. I loved rock hounding on the beach. We walked the shoreline, sunned and read at the shore. We were all lulled by the sound of the surf. Everyone enjoyed the beach fires and star gazing. Spotting the eagles that nest around the point was a highlight. One evening my husband and I were lucky enough to see a fox trotting down the beach; we watched it until it disappeared around the point.
Other reviews talked about swimming so I'll weigh in as well. If you wear river shoes or an old pair of sneakers you can walk out to where you're able to swim. Using a boogie board to get you out to where it's deep enough to swim also works. The water is fairly shallow; I swam quite a way out but it was never over my head. If you "play" in the water as opposed to swimming, the rocks might be a problem. There are 2 local township or county beaches that were nice alternatives. (I personally loved the rocks, but I do like rock hounding....).
The cottage was comfortable and spacious. Having a dishwasher and a washer and dryer was a bonus. The real feature for this cottage is the beautiful Lake Michigan location. It's quiet, beautiful, and relaxing. The property as well as the surrounding villages of Good Hart and Cross Village facilitate "down time." I look forward to a return visit.
Our family of nine thoroughly enjoyed your wonderful vacation home for our reunion. The cottage really exceeded our expectations--the house, the deck, the forest on the property, the beach, and the perfect weather. The kids had a great time building exquisite forts on the beach from the rocks found in the lake.
We enjoyed being there so much that many adults never wanted to leave the property. "How can you improve on perfection?" But some did find the nearby sandy swimming beach excellent. We also enjoyed the general store and crepes in Good Hart.
We really loved this area of Michigan! This cottage had a wonderful layout for a group. The bonfire pit by the lake is a gorgeous setting at night. Beaches nearby were very nice. Must put this out there though...we had our 1 and 2.5yr old children with us and the outside property wasn't the most kid-friendly (deck has shorter railings and big openings). Didn't ruin our time or anything but just something to keep in mind if you have very young children. The views and sunsets from the deck were beautiful and we enjoyed our stay overall.
What a beautiful setting!!! The cottage is in the middle of a woods with Lake Michigan right out your back door. The views are breathtaking! The cottage is fully equipped and has everything you could possibly need. Saw lots of wildlife. If you are looking for a peaceful place to stay with lots of options for shopping & sightseeing, this is the place for you. Really enjoyed Moose Jaw Junction restaurant. Hope to be able to come back again next year.
The views of Lake Michigan from this cottage are beautiful but once you wander down to the beach it is breathtaking! Our three college kids enjoyed our nightly fires near the beach. Roasted hot dogs can't be beat! The ping pong table got a workout with some heated games. Short drives took us to Mackinaw City for golf and Petoskey for shopping. The Tuesday night Perch on the Porch at the Crow's Nest is a must for a great meal out. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The beds were comfortable and it was peaceful drifting off to sleep with the sound of the waves on the beach.
