Hello! My name is Mrs. Malloy and I am a retired High School Language teacher. On Mother's Day of 1993, my husband and I answered Mrs. Patteson's newspaper ad. What we saw was an impenetrable jungle on the Sebastian River. Imagine our surprise, for as we were clearing the property, we discovered a lagoon with access to the Sebastian River. Local rumors have it that the Spaniards looking for fresh water used this lagoon as a marker. This was when the Sebastian River in it's pristine era was deep enough for Spanish armadas to pass thru. My son Greg is convinced that Spanish treasures are buried in this property. Please no digging! Don't humor him.
Mrs. Malloy purchased this chateau / country house in 1993
When I lived in 'The Lagoon House' my private abode was upstairs. With it's exterior staircase, once upstairs you feel as if you are in another world. A world filled with exquisite natural beauty. My bedroom window, livingroom sliding glass door and kitchen window all overlook the spectacular landscape of the lagoon with it's jumping fishes, the river and the boats, the oaks, the bamboos, the palms... so much to see and feel.
Yet after having lived downstairs.....so much easier on my legs.....I tend to prefer it. It's just the right size. No extra space to lose yourself or things. I made it a habit to leave my keys, phone and glasses right by the kitchen doors. You are downstairs and will hear foot steps upstairs.....hopefully like trains passing you will get used to it. If you remember the movie....'Men in Black', when Dan Akroid was asked how often the trains passed, he answered ' so often that you don't even notice it.' The natural beauty of flora and fauna from the lagoon and the Sebastian River will make your stay memorable.
Yes...you are at the deep end of the road. The last house....squeezed between a creek, the river with it's private lagoon, the surrounding oak trees and greenery.
You will be enveloped, caressed and lulled by mother nature. Be on the look out for manatees. We have sired generations in the lagoon. Offspring return to continue the cycle of life.
My adult son and I just rented this property February 2015. Our intention was to fish the St Sebastian River. To our great surprise, when it was too winding to be on the river, we found the lagoon that is enclosed by the property was teaming with game fish including snook, redfish and even tarpon. The house is well set up and Mrs Malloy was a wonderful, solicitous hostess. Despite being located on a large, beautiful piece of land that has the feel of being way out of the normal hustle andbustle of Florida, it is just minutes away from excellent restaurants and shopping. If you want peaceful, private vacation in Florida, I can't imagine any place better than this.
Our stay at the Lagoon House was a great pleasure. We partucularly enjoyed the view of the lagoon, the confluence of the forks of the Sebastian River and the sunsets. The house itself was charming, clean and comfortable. We have spent many years both owning and renting in the area. This bit of historic old Florida is a wonderful departure from condos. A great experience. The only negative is the lack of a dishwasher, but it is more than offset by the plusses. For those with knee or hip problems, we would recommend the first floor as steps to the second floor are rather steep, but the second floor, with one bedroom is nicer than the first floor and has a better view. The area is famous for its beaches, laid back style, waterfront restaurants/watering holes, fishing and airboat tours.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 7 week stay at The Lagoon House. This charming cottage has awesome views of the St. Sebastian River with its incredible ecosystems. We saw all varieties of seabirds
and even a pod of dolphins swimming in the river, all from the comfort of our screened-in verandah.
The Lagoon House is located in an historical neighborhood with sandy roads and friendly neighbors, perfect for an evening stroll while enjoying the gorgeous sunsets that dance across the river. The owner was delightful and went out of her way to meet our needs and made sure of our comfort. The Lagoon House is just minutes away from all your shopping needs, numerous excellent
restaurants, the Sebastian Riverfront with several outstanding waterfront dining options and water-related activities. We especially enjoyed dining at Captain Hirams for fresh seafood and water views.
Sebastian also has gorgeous and uncrowded beaches at the Sebastain Inlet. This town is one of the
most beautiful places with no traffic or crowds...really Old Florida at its best. We would definately recommend The Lagoon House and plan to return in the future. A special thanks to the owner
who was such a pleasure to meet as well as the neighbors who guided us to the best places to see!
We love this place!
Sebastian is known for it's great fishing opportunities, from deep sea to pier or coastal.
Sebastian is also world knowned for it's sky diving center. In fact, 'The Lagoon House' is a favored area to fly over because of it's incomparable beauty.
Maybe a day deep sea fishing is what you envision yourself doing. A slow cruise down our Sebastian river will give you a good idea just how special 'The Lagoon House' is and how smart you are for having chosen it.
Your view from the downstairs screened porch will bring out your inner child. The wonderment of the raising sun and what the new day will bring, to the bliss and peace of our sunset.
