Incorporated in 1880, the charming historic town of Salida was named as one of the 'ten best places to live' by television’s Fine Living program. Salida is known for its mild climate, plentiful outdoor recreational opportunities, and burgeoning arts scene, including the well-respected Salida Museum. It’s set beneath the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range to the south and the Sawatch Range to the northwest with its 15 peaks over 14,000 feet in elevation (which is why the region’s nickname is the “14ers Region.” The section of Arkansas River that runs near the town is world-famous for whitewater rafting and kayaking.

One of our guest said it best..'It is much prettier than the pictures lead you to believe. Hot tub is right outside the back door and fenced on one side for privacy. Property manager was super and responded quickly to all questions. We saw llama, deer and wild turkeys wandering around the neighborhood while we stayed. Easy access to both the Monarch ski resort and the town of Salida. A Walmart about 6 miles into town so if you forget something, easy to take care of.'

About Leona Taylor

We live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It has been a long time dream to live in Colorado, this cabin is a start. We feel quite fortunate to be able to share this special spot with other travelers.

Leona Taylor purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Leona Taylor chose South Central Colorado

We loved the river and convenient location to year round activities and the town of Salida. This area offers all we were looking for and so much more.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin has all the conveniences you could want, but the river and fire pit give a feeling of camping outdoors. We get the best of both worlds. It is peaceful to sit under the covered porch and watch the rain or enjoy whatever wildlife might happen by. While there are neighbors within walking distance, the cabin is secluded and relaxing.

My husband and I spent our 25th wedding anniversery in the Monarch Cabin. The listing description is accurate. It was very clean and had all we could ask for. We travel with German Shepherds and the dogs love it. Salida is 10 -15 mintues away. Our morning were spent enjoying the fall color and a good hike. We were back to the cabin by 1pm at the latest for a dip in the private hot tub, a nap and then in to Salida for some very enjoyable meals. The kitchen is fully furnished and we cook several good meals there as well. I would highly recommend this outfit for those who are traveling with a pet and those who are not.

Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Magnificent Mt. Monarch

  • 5 of 5

This cabin near Salida was very clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. Wish we could have stayed longer. We enjoyed the hot tub, walking our dog on the dead-end dirt road, and hiking up to Arthur Lake. The cabin has lots of necessary supplies for cooking and packing lunches. It is roomy and sunny. We hope to be back so we can enjoy the area by the river more. I highly recommend it.

My Little Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

It took us FOREVER to get out of Denver, but when we finally made it to Mt. Monarch, my heart was full. It was just my husband and I, with our fur baby Mavis. The pictures on the website do not do this place justice. It is clean, cozy and welcoming. The owners are quite hospitable and they have the house stocked with everything you need aside from food! Since we arrived when it was dark, the property was still a mystery to us, but that was okay. The next morning, my husband and Mavis spent their time by the water, where it was cool and peaceful. Mavis was in heaven (we have a ton of photos and videos to prove it). The area by the water is perfect. It has a picnic table and a park bench along with a fire pit. Its green and lush and simply beautiful. When we left the property for sight seeing adventures we went up the road to where it ends and saw the beautiful sights. We also went up to the summit of Monarch Pass, and that was amazing. I would love to go up the tram and watch the sunset next time. We cooked steaks over the fire and we had dinner down by the water. I would say 80% of our time was spent down by the water. The hot tub was nice, but the chemicals were too strong and they were burning my lungs and eyes so I had to get out, but it was still refreshing for the short time I was in it. I love that the cabin is at the end of the road, so there were virtually no cars passing by for any reason. That made it feel even more secluded. I loved waking up in the morning and having coffee on the front porch. The ONLY downfall, and it is by no means a deal breaker for us, is that the home is right off of HWY 50 so you can hear the cars passing by almost all the time. After awhile you tune it out and you look at your surroundings and feel content. We will be back, and we will love it like we did this time. Such a special little treasure. I loved it!

Owner's Response: Thanks Jessica, for sharing your thoughts and experiences at the cabin. We do agree the river, that is part of the property, is very enjoyable. We have tried to create an area that feels like camping, but you get to have a real shower. I am sorry the chemicals were so strong, I will address that. We hope you can visit again. Leona
