About Leona Taylor

We live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It has been a long time dream to live in Colorado, this cabin is a start. We feel quite fortunate to be able to share this special spot with other travelers.

Leona Taylor purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Leona Taylor chose South Central Colorado

We loved the river and convenient location to year round activities and the town of Salida. This area offers all we were looking for and so much more.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin has all the conveniences you could want, but the river and fire pit give a feeling of camping outdoors. We get the best of both worlds. It is peaceful to sit under the covered porch and watch the rain or enjoy whatever wildlife might happen by. While there are neighbors within walking distance, the cabin is secluded and relaxing.

My husband and I spent our 25th wedding anniversery in the Monarch Cabin. The listing description is accurate. It was very clean and had all we could ask for. We travel with German Shepherds and the dogs love it. Salida is 10 -15 mintues away. Our morning were spent enjoying the fall color and a good hike. We were back to the cabin by 1pm at the latest for a dip in the private hot tub, a nap and then in to Salida for some very enjoyable meals. The kitchen is fully furnished and we cook several good meals there as well. I would highly recommend this outfit for those who are traveling with a pet and those who are not.

Adorable little cabin perfect for a weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay! We came in early Friday and went to St. Elmo's Ghost Town before checking into the cabin. Once we checked in we went into Salida for dinner at 216 Ferraros and to grab weekend supplies from town. Saturday we went off roading at Chinaman's Gulch and came back to crash. We truly loved the stay and hope to come back again!

Cute and clean. Not as secluded as I expected, but privacy no issue.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is clean and cute and well stocked, and we were very comfortable during our stay. It is close to the main road, so there was some road noise, but the stream helped make it less annoying. Close to the road made getting places quick and easy. We loved how clean everything was and that the bedding was nice quality and the bed was comfortable, on the firm side. The front porch is wonderful, and we were visited by a heard of deer in the yard. When there was one tiny glitch in something the cleaning crew had skipped, Leona was prompt in her response and took care of the issue quickly and fairly. I would absolutely rent from her again.

Snowboard trip to Monarch

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is conveniently located between Monarch and Salida. It is at the end of the road so you are not bracketed by home owners in either directions. All of the amenities and utilities worked great and there was a nice set of sleeping pads and blankets from which to make an extra sleeping space if you did not want to sleep on a couch bed.

The only downsides were that the garbage can was already full and the creek side of the house had a meandering smell that we assumed was the septic exhaust that is visible on that side of the property. The hot tub is on the other side so that was not an issue for our outside time, though the tub did not stay warm for long. It got to 104 and would fall continuously while in the tub, needing to get out and cover it to get the temperature back up. Additionally, the internet that was available was very spotty and cell reception is non existent, though each of those things may be a good thing if you are wanting to get away from it all, just something to consider.

Aside from some relatively minor criticisms we found the cabin to be a great option and would recommend it to anyone wanting to spend time around Monarch without the need for coffee shop around the corner and the extra driving time that entails.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. Yes, cell phone and internet is not the best. We have provided the best that is available in that remote area. That is also the reason we provide unlimited long distance. However, there are some people who have no issues, I guess it depends on their carrier. I am not sure how to fix the hot tub, when it is winter it is hard to keep the temperature up. The trash was a one time issue, prior guests had not followed house rules, and I do apologize for that. We will check into the smell, that should not be there, we just had septic pumped. Thanks for bringing all that to our attention. Leona

Fantastic weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin at the last minute and we're so lucky it was open. We just needed to get away. We had already planned to ski at Monarch but it was so nice to be so close. After skiing all day Saturday I can't tell you how nice it was to be back at the cabin and soaking in the hot tub in less than 30 minutes. The kitchen was well equipped and we had everything we needed to make breakfast and dinner. The cabin was a nice size for our family of 4 and I highly recommend it.

Perfect Quaint Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Monarch Cabin for a ski trip. My husband, Great Dane, and I absolutely love this place. It is close enough to stuff but also has a sense of seclusion with it being on a dead end street. The hot tub is a relaxing bonus- perfect after skiing all day at one our favorite ski resorts: Monarch Mountain. We also drove to the Angel of Shavano TH (a few miles up CR 240) and snowshoed along the creek with our dog. Such a wonderful escape! The cabin is also well stocked with items to make cooking a breeze. Thanks Leona! We will definitely be staying there again!

Amazing Vacation - Wonderful Property

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, our two kids, and dog stayed at Leona's property for a week and had an awesome time! The property had more than everything we needed and was just beautiful. Loved everything about it. The hot tub was a major plus. Leona was AMAZING!! About the fourth day into our stay we had some pretty large amounts of snow come in (literally up mid-door to our large SUV). I asked Leona via email if we could extend the rental for two nights and explained that the weather was pretty bad. One reason we wanted to extend was because we did not want to drive in that weather and the other being that we were having a blast and did not want to leave. When I emailed her she immediately called the cabin to check on us, allowed us to extend the rental, and even sent a very nice man within the hour who came by to plow us out. Definitely a vacation that we will never forget and we will for sure be returning next winter!
