Incorporated in 1880, the charming historic town of Salida was named as one of the 'ten best places to live' by television’s Fine Living program. Salida is known for its mild climate, plentiful outdoor recreational opportunities, and burgeoning arts scene, including the well-respected Salida Museum. It’s set beneath the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range to the south and the Sawatch Range to the northwest with its 15 peaks over 14,000 feet in elevation (which is why the region’s nickname is the “14ers Region.” The section of Arkansas River that runs near the town is world-famous for whitewater rafting and kayaking.

One of our guest said it best..'It is much prettier than the pictures lead you to believe. Hot tub is right outside the back door and fenced on one side for privacy. Property manager was super and responded quickly to all questions. We saw llama, deer and wild turkeys wandering around the neighborhood while we stayed. Easy access to both the Monarch ski resort and the town of Salida. A Walmart about 6 miles into town so if you forget something, easy to take care of.'

About Leona Taylor

We live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It has been a long time dream to live in Colorado, this cabin is a start. We feel quite fortunate to be able to share this special spot with other travelers.

Leona Taylor purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Leona Taylor chose South Central Colorado

We loved the river and convenient location to year round activities and the town of Salida. This area offers all we were looking for and so much more.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin has all the conveniences you could want, but the river and fire pit give a feeling of camping outdoors. We get the best of both worlds. It is peaceful to sit under the covered porch and watch the rain or enjoy whatever wildlife might happen by. While there are neighbors within walking distance, the cabin is secluded and relaxing.

My husband and I spent our 25th wedding anniversery in the Monarch Cabin. The listing description is accurate. It was very clean and had all we could ask for. We travel with German Shepherds and the dogs love it. Salida is 10 -15 mintues away. Our morning were spent enjoying the fall color and a good hike. We were back to the cabin by 1pm at the latest for a dip in the private hot tub, a nap and then in to Salida for some very enjoyable meals. The kitchen is fully furnished and we cook several good meals there as well. I would highly recommend this outfit for those who are traveling with a pet and those who are not.

Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Fantastic cabin!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I brought our 2 girls here for a week. The area i beautiful, but we already knew that. We had a great time in the Mt Monarch cabin. It's very safe for the kids ...they were able to ride their bikes up and down the street since it's on a dead end turn around and very few cars come near this area. It's very secluded which was nice to have. The cabin itself has everything you could want. It was clean and very comfortable. The Hot tub was a nice bonus as well after a long day of fishing or running around Colorado. The fire pit area is nice to have...just sit back and relax around the fire. We will defiantly be coming back! Thank you to the Taylor's for such a great experience.

Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We needed a place to relax, and Monarch Cabin provided that place! My husband and I were so pleased from the moment we drove up to the cabin - it was roomy, clean, very comfortable, and so well stocked! Early mornings were spent drinking coffee on the front porch looking for wildlife (we saw deer every day!) and listening to the birds sing! The cabin was so conveniently located - we spent a day to the north, one to the east to Colorado Springs where we drove up Pikes Peak, and one to the west visiting Mt. Monarch. There were so many things to do close-by - hiking, beautiful scenic drives, hot springs, wandering through Salida, rafting, ghost towns, and so much more!. After exploring during the day, we returned to the cabin to my favorite part of the trip - sitting near the river with a fire, a cocktail, cooking supper, and relaxing in the hot tub. Loved watching the stars from the hot tub! I can honestly say this was the best vacation we have ever been on - the cabin made it so easy to relax and enjoy some together time. Our Jack Russell, Delilah, loved visiting the cabin as well. It was so nice to be able to bring her on vacation - this area is so pet-friendly. She was able to come to lunch at the Boathouse, ride the gondola on Mt. Monarch, and hike on some of the trials. This is the perfect cabin for anyone wanting a getaway to relax - it's location at the end of the road gives the impression of seclusion even though you can see the highway through the trees. The rushing river and tree coverage make you forget that you are not far from civilization! The weather was perfect - especially the cool nights, when we slept with the windows open to hear the river! Thank you for sharing your cabin. We can't wait to return!!

Cozy, quiet, clean, convenient cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here with our pups. The cabin was so inviting and clean, all of the amenities needed were provided, and the hot tub was already heated when we arrived! The location of the cabin was perfect for our desire to spend most of our time out trail running and fishing but also provided easy access to town. From warming up near the stove, enjoying quiet mornings outside on the porch, and grilling out in the evening, we would not have had our little getaway at the cabin any other way. The cabin also provided great information on local hiking, fishing, wineries, restaurants, etc which were of great help. We will return!

A great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the Mt. Monarch Cabin! About 15 minutes outside of Salida was perfect for us to still walk around town but feel really out in the woods on our own! Everything we needed was there and it was very comfortable!
