Darlene and I are true locals having grown up in Ouray and Ridgway.
We spent our early married years in the Denver area and after 10 yrs. decided that we wanted to leave the fast paced urban lifestyle and return to a more tranquil mountain setting. Ridgway was the perfect choice.
We have been knocking around the southwest for 30 years now and have extensive knowledge of SW Colorado and also Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.
We are people oriented and enjoy sharing our knowledge of the hidden gems of the southwest with others.
As much as we love the natural beauty of the area we also feel lucky to live in a community with a very diverse mix of great people.
We wake up every day thankful for where we live.
Owner/Property Manager purchased this studio in 1992
We purchased this property in 1990 when we discovered it located in the old historic residential district of Ridgway. It had never been built upon and had old growth trees and shrubs throughout. We knew that it would be perfect for a private cottage style home to be situated on .
The grounds have nice areas for lounging, reading or cocktails. The neighborhood is very quiet and safe with little traffic.
We are located 2 blocks from the Historic Business District which includes Kates Resturant (voted #1 in Ridgway) 2 blocks from The Colorado Boy Brewpub, well known for it's great brews and Pizzas and is a spirited locals hangout. Also close by is the new Sherbino Theatre being renovated for film and live music.
We are located 45 minutes from Telluride and its world class ski area. Telluride is also known for its year round festivals. Bluegrass, Blues & Brews, Jazz and Film to name a few.
Ouray Colorado 'The Switzerland of America' is 15 minutes south and has fantastic hiking, biking, ice climbing and soaking in it's hot springs pool. The outdoor activities are endless in this area. Come and enjoy.
We booked this rental when my parents came to visit. The space was exactly what we were looking for-clean, unique, comfortable, adorable, and convenient. Thank you Bob & Darline.
The stone house cottage was the perfect retreat for my husband and me. It was cozy, well appointed, clean and charming. Every inch of the cottage was well utilized. Bob and Darlene became our friends and we feel so lucky to have met and stayed at their cottage. The town is full of history, charm, and friendly folks. You can walk to the pub, shoppes, and several great restaurants. After just one week there we felt like part of the community. You will want to move there once you visit. Can't say enough good about the experience, magical and life changing. Don't delay your visit!!!
The owners are interested in your time there by suggesting hikes, fishing, drives, and local events. We were quite pleased with the carriage house! It was quaint, exceptionally clean, and came with the garage below. The side patio was wonderful for morning coffee, and there were a variety of birds.
If you're going to Ridgway, or even Ouray or Telluride, and you want a quaint, romantic, quiet place to stay that is affordable, then book this rental! Above all else, the owners of this unit are some of the most amazing people you will ever be fortunate enough to meet. I consider my life more blessed now for knowing them. Thank you, Darlene and Bob, for all the tips on the area and for being so personable. Thank you for the well-wishes for my Mom. We loved the area so much that we even discussed retiring there during our travel back home. Regardless, we will definitely be back for another stay. Thank you for a clean, quiet stay and for being such gracious hosts.
We stayed three nights and had an absolutely great get-away. First off, Bob and Darlene are great hosts: informative, personable, and not intrusive at all (which could be the case for other owners who may be on-site). Their knowledge of the local area -- restaurants, hikes, scenic drives -- made some of our decision making easy. Very warm, inviting, and thoughtful people! And let's talk about the property -- on my! The cottage has fine craftsmanship from the lighting to the wood work. The skylight, French doors, and windows allow for a very nice natural lighting in the day. With the French doors open, the cool air made for a great way to start the morning! The bed was spectacularly comfortable so after a day of hiking and fishing it took a matter of seconds to doze off for a good night's sleep. The kitchen allowed us to make breakfasts each day and we had a simple dinner our first night there since we arrived late and didn't have the urge to go out to dinner that night. Another big plus in the accommodations is visitors have access to off-street, sheltered parking in the garage! While this may not seem all that necessary in a small town, it is a great asset that I can imagine would be very nice in the winter for folks looking for ski vacations. Finally, Bob and Darlene don't have any "add on" fees; I was a bit surprised that they do not have a cleaning charge, for example. And, speaking of cleaning, the place was immaculate! My only hesitation in writing such a rave review is that I may need to compete for future reservation days!
Our five day retreat at the Stone Cottage was exceptional from beginning to end.
The purpose of our stay was to take scenic motorcycle rides to the areas around Ridgway.
The owners Bob and Darlene are motorcycle enthusiasts and were very helpful with ride info as well as helping us unload and load our trailered bike. The cottage was even more
adorable than the photos and every detail of what would be needed was anticipated. It felt as though we were in a tree house. Sitting outside in the shade of the many trees was delightful. We will return again and again to this special place.
