About the property

An easy walk to the beach -- newly remodeled big one-bedroom with a private yard

A newly remodeled house: private, peaceful, and spacious. The perfect place for a couple or a small family looking to get away from it all! With an all-new kitchen and living area and its own private yard, this beautiful "ohana" residence is the perfect getaway. Please check out our reviews to see how much our guests have enjoyed staying here.

The large upstairs bedroom is cool and breezy with a balcony looking out on the Ko'olau Mountains -- perfect for a morning coffee or reading a book in the afternoon.

The downstairs was fully remodeled in 2014. The new new kitchen and living room open onto a private fenced yard with an outdoor breakfast table nestled in the shade of the Plumeria tree.

This rental is an easy walk to the beach: it is 5 minutes or less to both Kailua and Lanikai beaches, the jewels of the Windward side of Oahu.

The house is in a quiet neighborhood, away from the vehicle and foot traffic in other parts of the Kailua area. Just down the street, walking distance from the house, is Buzz's Grill - the neighborhood watering hole and an excellent place for dinner. Kalapawai Market is just a little way further down the street - a local hangout, where you can get a cup of coffee and the newspaper, or have breakfast or lunch. Bob's Pizza and Island Snow (your go-to spot for shave ice) are right there, too.

In Kailua Town proper you'll find a new (and quite vibrant) Whole Foods, as well as many different restaurants, including Japanese, Mexican, and Italian food. There's also a great farmers' market every Thursday evening, where local farmers sell fresh produce and a series of food stands provides the best Oahu has to offer.

This rental provides you with peace and privacy, and great access to a world-class beach. Residents and visitors alike love the easy-going spirit of this area.

You can enjoy nearby golfing, snorkeling, kite-surfing, sailing, and boogie-boarding, or just hang out on the beach. And of course just a short drive away you will find world-class surfing and diving; now might be the time to take that surfing lesson! The Ko'olau Mountains offer beautiful hikes through lush forests.

Our family loves living here, and you will love it here too. We look forward to answering any questions you might have, and to meeting you someday, too.

About Jonathan and Jenny

We moved to Oahu from the mainland six years ago, and we quickly fell in love with Kailua. The small-town feel of the place, the welcome we received from those we met here, and the lovely beaches all just made us feel so at home.

Jonathan and Jenny purchased this guest house in 2012

Why Jonathan and Jenny chose Kailua

We chose this property because it was beautiful, convenient, and private. The neighborhood is safe, and we liked how green it is - the landscape really stands out here.

What makes this guest house unique

The house is a classic Hawaiian home - mid-century modern with a lovely yard. The Ohana residence is a place for friends and family to stay and visit. It was built more recently and has a great feel, too. The previous owners of this house used to live on the Ohana side - they loved the upper veranda, and would sit out there every night watching the sun set over the Ko'olaus mountains.

Although our maximum occupancy is five, the unit is really not set up well for parties that include five adults. The place is ideal for families (for instance, two adults and up to three children). It is a quiet neighborhood.

Clean, basic, great location.

The place itself is fine. Nothing fancy but good for a small family, except that noises really carry. It’s very basic with all necessary amenities

Quiet Corner in Paradise

  • 4 of 5

My and wife stayed for 4 nights in the Kailua-Lanikai beach area since we had good memories of our kayaking trip 10 to 12 years ago with our two sons. They are both young adults now, and we decided to come back and stay near Kailua and Lanikai beaches in order to avoid the hordes of tourists in Waikiki.

This property had everything we needed to spread out and laze around when not playing tourists or hanging out at the beach. Though we had a car rental, we were able to walk to the beach, activity center and Buzz' Restaurant. Safeway, Whole Foods, and Target were within walking distance though we drove, and it took us less than 10 minutes to get to these places. Downtown Honolulu, HNL Airport, Hanauma Bay, and Kualoa Ranch (Jurassic Park) were within 30-45 minutes drive from Kailua. In short, it is a very convenient location without the downtown traffic or parking hassles.

The neighborhood is quiet and if it weren't for the cool and wet weather while we were there, we would have been able to sit outside on the second floor porch to appreciate the mountain view. Other than the inconvenience of having the bathroom on a separate floor from the bedroom, this vacation property is ideal for couples or families with young children.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us! It was perfect for our family of 4. Very clean, stocked with all essentials to cook our meals, and lots of beach gear to use (beach towels, boogie boards, ice chest, snorkel gear, lots of little people toys too!). In addition we slept wonderfully in the comfortable king size beds and it was so nice to enjoy a cup of coffee on the balcony overlooking the mountains in the morning. The kids enjoyed playing in the small yard which was also lovely landscaped and very clean. Look forward to coming back and staying here again :) Mahalo!!!

Great location, lovely home

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 days and this property and location worked perfectly for our family including our two young boys. It's a nice, short stroll to the beach. The neighborhood is very quiet and clean. We would return to Kailua in a heart-beat, it was a perfect home base away from the traffic we experienced in other areas of the island. The beds were super comfy and the kitchen / living area although small had everything we needed. My husband and I enjoyed evenings on the lanai listening to the birds and looking out at the mountain view. We used the beach gear that was provided including snorkels, boogie boards, and a SUP board. Loved it and miss Hawaii already!!!

Great place walking distance to the beach

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay here. The suite is clean, and had everything we needed. It’s just a short walk to the beach. We were happy to be able to use beach toys, chairs, coolers, etc. The hosts are helpful and quick to respond to questions. This was a good place for our vacation.

Kailua or Lanikai
Car: recommended

You are SO CLOSE to the beach. Walk to Kailua or Lanikai, the most beautiful beaches on Oahu. Take a stroll on the beach in the morning before breakfast (you can just duck out the door while the coffee is brewing). This is also Kailua, Oahu's secluded community, with great restaurants and a laid-back vibe. The rest of the island awaits you, but here you can get away from the high-rise hotels, the traffic and the crowds of Waikiki.

Our house is in a quiet, residential neighborhood. It is a great place for a relaxing getaway! Late night partying and large groups really don't work well for us. Reserving this property means you understand and accept this. For which we are very grateful to you! Aloha.
