The custom-built Passive Solar home was designed for both comfort and entertaining. It has generously sized rooms, amazing views, and seemingly endless areas to gather… or to enjoy a little solitude and tranquility.
Designed as a Swiss Chalet, updates have maintained the original character and rustic elegance while adding modern conveniences.
The Chalet is offered with 4 Bedrooms and 3 Bathrooms. Queen beds in all 4 Bedrooms, plus a Queen sleeper sofa (in the Sweet Suite).

ANIMAL FRIENDLY! Pets must:
• Have current vaccinations and flea preventative
• Be leashed or obedient and will come to you on command
• Not wander into the neighbors' yards
• Not get on furniture without using the 'Dog Sheets' provided to protect couches and bedding
We DO NOT CHARGE A PET FEE (not yet, anyway!). We do expect guests to maintain control over pets, walk them as needed, prevent damage to the property or furnishings, clean up all messes, and scoop poop out of the upper yard.
EARLY CHECK-IN/LATE CHECK-OUT: Must be approved by owner in advance and are not always available. Fees are $50/hour.
The Main Level Master Suite has a private full Bathroom with double sinks, radiant heat flooring, and a walk-in shower for two! There are two other Bedrooms that share a Bathroom. Additional space on the Main Level includes the Kitchen, Dining Room with seating for 10, Living Room with Fireplace and a wall of windows, Den with cable television, and the oh-so-wonderful Deck!
The Lower Level has a Recreation Room with ping pong, pub tables, and a seating area with cable television. The Sweet Suite efficiency apartment is adjacent to the Rec Room, and is the most private area of the Chalet. It has an interior entrance that opens up to a Living/Dining area with a propane-fired woodstove, a Queen sleeper sofa, and cable television. The Sweet Suite has the 4th Bedroom, 3rd Bathroom, and the 2nd Kitchen.
LOCATION: This property is 17 miles from Asheville’s city limits, approximately a 20-25 minute drive to the heart of downtown. It is easily accessed via Interstate 26 and Highway 197, with no curvy mountain roads to maneuver. There are also several cab companies that can transport groups to and from downtown.
It is 10 minutes to the charming historic towns of Weaverville and Mars Hill. It’s only a few miles to the Coleman Boundary area of the Pisgah National Forest, 3 miles to Navitat Canopy Adventures (quite possibly the best zipline company in the country), and the French Broad River is nearby: kayaking, rafting, tubing, and fly fishing are offered by several local Outfitters. Bent Creek recreation area in Asheville ranks among the top 10 Mountain Biking sites in the country!
Voted 'Beer City' USA for 4 consecutive years, there is more than the fabulous craft breweries in Asheville. LaZoom Comedy Tours offer family-friendly as well as 'R-rated' adult entertainment, the Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful any time of year, the Biltmore Estate is the largest privately-owned house in the United States and is open for tours year-round, the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens are lovely, and other recreational options are seemingly endless! Mix in Asheville's cuisine, art, and music... you are not likely to find a quaint vacation destination with so much to offer!

This property and house leave people in awe... from the initial impression coming up the driveway to the expansive living area leading directly to that 'magnet' of a deck... it has the ideal balance of peace, views, and easy access to downtown and other amenities!
It is, undoubtedly, one of the most special properties in the Asheville area! Built in 1986 as a retirement residence with a Swiss Chalet design, there are charming and unique details throughout. The coat closet and pantry lights come on when the doors are opened, skylights and a passive solar design provide a light and bright atmosphere, the ceiling soars to 18' in the Living room, and all rooms of ample size.
The kitchen cabinets were hand-made by the original owner and feature a 'Small Appliance Garage': simply open the door with the brass 'Coffee Maker' label, and pull out the trolley upon which sits the coffee maker! The spice drawer might amuse you, or inspire you... the dumbwaiter is non-functioning, but still fun to check out! How often do you see a modern version of Thomas Jefferson's invention?
Multiple indoor and outdoor 'living areas' make this home an ideal get-away for intimate escapes, family reunions, or for your visitors who prefer a home rather than a hotel.
Spacious and comfortable, there are options to relax in/on the... Den, Living Room, Kitchen with a 'pass-through' to the Dining Room, the Deck, a shady pergola, and 8 acres upon which to roam!
UPDATE: As of October 2013, the Chalet can be rented with (or without) the lower level the Efficiency Apartment, aptly named the Sweet Suite! With its own kitchen, private bath, bedroom with a Queen, and a Living Area with a Queen sleeper sofa... it is ideal for additional guests to have a bit of privacy from those staying on the main level!
I've made improvements over the years, most of them cosmetic as well as the less exciting upgrades to the major systems (heat/AC, roof, electrical, etc.). Improvements are made every year to modernize the Chalet while maintaining its original charm and character. The house is fully functional and very comfortable. It has come a long way from the fixer-upper condition it was when I purchased it, and I continue to enjoy the process of converting it into my vision and having the ability to share this special property with guests!

We truly enjoyed our stay! The house was more then we imagined and the views were absolutely gorgeous. You don't even need to leave the house if you don't want to! The house had everything we needed and more. Paula was great and easy to get in contact with if needed. We cant wait to book another stay here soon!
Our group of 9 stayed here in August 2016. We had an amazing time - the house is gigantic with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for all. Kitchen was well stocked with coffee maker, pots and pans, and other supplies. The porch is huge with stunning mountain views. Although we didn't use the hot tub as much as we would have liked (just a short trip) - it was definitely a perk. Paula was extremely responsive via email when I reached out to her with questions during our stay. 20 minute or so drive into downtown Asheville but so worth the privacy of the rental. I cannot wait to go back to Asheville and would recommend this property to anyone with a good size group looking to be able to spread out and relax with a killer view.

None of the pictures do the view justice. This house had more than enough room for our 8 person group. The house was very clean and all the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed making our meals and hanging out at the house. It was an easy 15 min drive to all of the Asheville attractions.
Our family (8 adults and 2 children ages 8 and 12) rented Asheville Country Chalet for 3 nights. It was a wonderful property with lots of amenities.
Clean, great views, a hot tub, game room downstairs, TV room upstairs, and everything you could need in the kitchen. The kitchen was so organized with all cabinets labelled so you could find things without opening every door looking for it. Very thoughtful. Upper deck offers nice views and a nice sitting area as well as a table for eating and a grill (we didn't use it). Downstairs there is another sitting area and a hot tub.
Wonderful property, but it is a bit of a drive (about 35 mins) to Asheville and about 6 miles to closest grocery. Weaverville (a lovely little town) is only 6 miles and has some good restaurants (try the bakery there!!). It is very convenient for Navitat ziplining (about 2 miles), which some of our group tried and liked. It is also very convenient for whitewater rafting, which all of us enjoyed doing with French Broad Rafting in Marshall.
All communications with the owner were excellent.

Only 18 miles to the heart of downtown Asheville (~20-25 minutes if traffic isn't congested), this property is a peaceful and private retreat.
The charming town of Weaverville is less than 10 miles and offers restaurants, shops, galleries, grocery, pharmacies, and banking.
