About Sheri & Scott MacPhee

My husband grew up in Baddeck so we travel to Cape Breton every year to visit with family and friends. We currently live in Alberta and recently had a child in May 2012, so this property will be used more and more as we travel to the east coast with our son!

Sheri & Scott MacPhee purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Sheri & Scott MacPhee chose Nova Scotia

We decided to purchase this vacation home in Bucklaw since it is just minutes from Baddeck and we absolutely love the location! It is so close to amenities and the scenery is breathtaking!

What makes this cottage unique

The spectacular views overlook the Bras d'Or Lake and since our property reaches right down to the water's edge, we have a private road to access our very own pebble beach!

Nice quiet location with great views

  • 5 of 5

Terrific views and nice quiet location.

There was lots of room for us, with all of us having nice comfy beds and clean bedding. The place is well appointed with lots of dishes, beach towels, washer and dryer, comfortable living room furniture, etc. Being on vacation we were busy and the location allowed easy access to everything we wanted to do such as golf at Cabot Links/Cliffs and Highland Links, Cabot trail and even Louisbourg wasn't too much of a drive. Baddeck is close by to get groceries and other supplies as well as being a beautiful town.

Brian the local contact was friendly and helpful with suggestions of places to eat and see. The personalized candies on the pillows were a nice touch that our girls really liked.

The owners were very quick to answer any questions and gave some good helpful suggestions on places to see as well as making sure there was info in the cottage such as Nova Scotia tourism guides and pamphlets.

Overall it was a terrific vacation spot to see Cape Breton.

Absolutely fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at your charming cottage! Such a large, comfortable and well equipped home that was perfect for our vacation. Owners are fantastic and respond quickly to any questions. The views are breathtaking and perfect for watching wildlife -- we saw many birds, chipmunks and even a fox. We highly recommend staying here and plan to do so ourselves in the future!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your feedback! We are happy to hear you had a wonderful stay at the Capestone and that you were able to relax and enjoy the wildlife! We do see a lot of birds our way and even seals out in the lake! They are just as curious as us sometimes, so it's nice when your paths can meet! Glad you made it home safe and your trip went well! We appreciate your kind words and would love to have you back to our cottage again!

Fantastic family getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place was great and I would not hesitate to recommend it to friends. Location is central to everything there is to do in Cape Breton. Within 30 minutes of beautiful beaches at Inverness, Mabou and Port Hood. About 1.5 hours drive to Sydney, Glace Bay and Louisbourg. Short drive to Cabot Trail. House is clean, large and comfortable... ample space for our family of 5 (three young children). Living area with beautiful view of the lake. Large kitchen open to the living room area equipped with everything you could need. All 3 bedrooms were very comfortable... bonus loft in the attic with two extra beds that the kids enjoyed. Owner and caretaker were friendly, attentive and easy to deal with. Hope to be able to stay here again on our next trip to Cape Breton.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay at Capestone. We were delighted to see the welcome basket full of goodies awaiting us along with other treats and surprises. The cottage was beautiful with a lovely view of the lake. The roomy kitchen was well equipped and the washer and dryer was an added bonus to us travelers. Every room was tastefully decorated. The location was perfect for sightseeing around Cape Breton and we enjoyed the privacy of the cottage. There were many good restaurants and shops close by to enjoy. I would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking a few minutes to write a review of your stay! It's great to hear you had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the amenities! Definitely beats staying in a small hotel room with little to no space to move around! Thank you for your comments about the decorating as well... We want our guests to feel right at home in a modern setting, rather than feeling outdated and old. Although this cottage was built many years ago, it has been renovated and has some character still left in it! We hope to have you visit us again some day and wish you all the best with your future travels!
