Large house just 5 short blocks from the beach with amazing sunset views!
Heron Hideaway - 1003 10th St., Tybee Island, GA, 31328
Heron Hideaway has had over FIFTY Five Star Reviews since 2008. We are very proud of that. Some of the reviews are below. This is a new listing with very few reviews because our former management company, Mermaid Cottages, had control of our previous listing.
Heron Hideaway offers the best home away from home experience you can hope for. We visit often and we make sure the house is kept extra nice and comfortable for you and us!
You will find incredible marsh views from every room in the house and from the spectacular 2nd and 3rd level decks. And the beach is only 5 short blocks from our front door!
This is an ideal location for guests that want to be close to the beach, but away from it all. Your location is mid-island and near everything, yet you are in a secluded and relaxed neighborhood. Heron Hideaway is one house off the marsh.
The main floor, located on the 2nd level, is very large and open with a living area, a dining room that seats up to 8 and a full kitchen. Many windows provide lots of natural light. This house is 2,200 square feet so it is roomy unlike many Tybee houses.
The master bedroom is the only room on the 3rd floor. It is enormous with the most amazing marsh views. The master bath (remodeled in 2015) has a shower large enough for two and a heated towel rack. The views never end. You can see Horsepen Creek and the marsh while you shower! The 3rd level screened in deck is very large and has comfortable seating for 8 adults. We plan our days so that we are on that deck at sunset every night!
The 10th Street beach is an easy 5 block walk away - just outside your door and a straight path to the beach. Ideal home for a family, girls getaway weekend or even honeymoon retreat. The house is decorated with my art, my mother's art and the art of other local and regional artists.
Did we mention we have manatees in the tidal creek behind the house in the summer time? And dolphins year round? Two of Tybee's best Fishing and Ecotourism Captains live right next door! Captains Elizabeth and Cecil Johnson run Tybee Island Charters. So all you have to do is walk next door for a boating trip!
Complimentary off-street parking for 3 cars, an RV or even a small boat and trailer. Complimentary WiFi.
Previously managed by Mermaid Cottages. Now managed by the owners. If you travel to Breckenridge, Colorado please check out QuickSilver Hideaway - our other vacation rental. VRBO and HomeAway Listing #4035326. That is our other property with a plethora of five star ratings! We take pride in everything we do!
Some of our reviews before becoming owner managed:
Beautiful house with plenty of room for our group of seven. Had everything we needed and would definitely stay here again!
My sisters and I enjoyed a wonderful week with our families at Heron Hideaway. This house has it all - location, view, amenities, plenty of space and charm. An easy walk or bike ride to the beach (2-5min) while also enjoying amazing views of the marsh. So peaceful! The third floor balcony is outstanding and the 2nd floor is also great. Of course, you see more of the house in front (between Heron Hideaway and the marsh) on the 2nd floor but the view is still really lovely. We rented bikes, explored Savannah, visited Fort Pulaski, lounged on the beach, and watched sunsets and one spectacular thunderstorm from the porches. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Heron Hideaway. The house was lovely, the artwork great! Had wonderful sunsets every night! Be aware that the house is close to other houses. This is a year round residence neighborhood. We took our bikes and used them for everything. Enjoyed some very good food at Social, twice! Loco's was great too! The owner of Loco's (and everyone) couldn't have been nicer, she blows a conch shell at sunset with a special cocktail included! We will be back! Oh, the ping pong table was a great perk! Thanks!
We rented Heron's Hideaway for 4 nights for a long weekend escape. The cottage was perfect! Very clean, great location and plenty of room for everyone. We had a party of 7 ages ranging from 6 years to 65 years. I would recommend calling ahead to rent a golf cart. Parking on Tybee can add up. Golf cart parking is free and makes it easy to get around the island.
"Location, location, location! We loved it!"
Best vacation home on Tybee Island! Location, location, location! And so very beautiful and comfortable. The central island location with Marsh views cannot be beat. Heron Hideaway is near all the good restaurants and beaches yet it is in a private location on the marsh. We loved watching the tidal marsh fall and rise every 6 hours. We love the bird watching from every window! Amazing views from the 3rd floor deck of the tidal marsh and sunset. Big, comfortable home. The pictures do not do this house justice. Game room for the kids was an extra bonus. We took a boat tour with Captain Cecil next door that was amazing. A do not miss experience. Saw dolphins everywhere!
We spent a week at Heron Hideaway with 6 adults and 2 teenagers. There was plenty of room and plenty of supplies. We didn't need to bring anything for the kitchen except the ingredients. We only ate out 2 nights during the week. The sunsets were fantastic and we enjoyed watching the tide highs and lows in the marsh. It was quiet yet right in the center of everything.
Heron Hideaway Bliss"
Perfect location, accomodations and floor plan - separate 3rd floor like a honey moon suite. Loved food prep in well equiped kitchen. The beach is an easy walk to an unforgetable Tybee.
"It was a fabulous week!"
It was such a good time we extended our stay. Loved the accommodations.
Tybee Island was a fabulous place to be. Low key, friendly and beautiful. The house we stayed on was on the marsh side and had breathtaking views where you could watch the sun set every night. It was a beautiful house with such great furnishings and artwork. I look forward to go back and I want this house again!
Lovely spacious house was perfect for our family of five. Close enough to the beach but quiet and secluded.
We loved this house. It was very comfortable and had an amazing view from the upper deck. The ping pong table and the grill were heavily utilized. Renters should know that there is NO water access from this house, as there is another house between it and the marsh.
Excellent. The cottage was clean and neat and the view from the upper bedroom was incredible. The kitchen was well staffed with kitchen things. Parking was easy. We had a great time.
The cottage was located centrally for all amenities and it was only a 10 minute walk to the beach. The supermarket was only 2 blocks away and stocked a good range. Inside the property was dressed in a quirky, but pretty way with lots of seaside touches. All rooms were spotlessly clean and a good size. The kitchen was well equipped for preparing meals. The 2 outside verandas had chairs and tables, where we ate most of our meals, whilst watching the activity on the creek. The only area which could be improved was the small garden to the rear of the property. We wanted to sit in the sun for an hour, and it would have been nice to have a couple of loungers. The web descriptions were accurate. Tybee Island is fun to explore and we rented bikes for one day. Using the bike routes, we were able to cycle the full length of the island. We also took a boat trip to see the dolphins, which was excellent and we were treated to lots of dolphins in their natural habitat. Restaurants we visited were AJ's Dockside, North Beach Bar and Grill and the Crab Shack. All provided good food and AJ's also had entertainment. We would highly recommend Heron Hideaway to any future travelers.

About Charlotte and Paul Beran
Paul and I live in Texas but our hearts are on Tybee Island. We plan to live on when we retire. We visit often and enjoy sharing our home with others. We both have hobbies that are very fulfilling. I am an artist. You will see many of my paintings, my mother's paintings and other art by local artists throughout the house. Paul is an amazing cook and gardener. He keeps about 60 orchids at our house in Texas. We have many friends on Tybee and love them all. Our neighbors are wonderful people. Elizabeth and Cecil, who live next door at 'Kokomo', have an amazing property with deep water in their backyard. They are sea captains and offer fishing charters and nature tours. They are the nicest people. We highly recommend you walk next door and take a fishing trip or eco tour with them. The things you see and learn are so meaningful!

Why Charlotte and Paul Beran chose Tybee Island
Why Tybee Island, GA, USA: Tybee Island, Georgia is the place in our hearts. When you cross the marsh to get to Tybee your blood pressure automatically drops and your heart will begin to sing. No wonder they filmed 'The Last Song' on Tybee. It is a breathtaking place with small town charm. Added bonus: Tybee offers the island experience with city life close by. Historic downtown Savannah is just a 20 minute drive away. There is no place like Tybee. And we have explored many places. We love riding bikes around the island and looking at the beautiful New Orleans walk-up style houses and the quaint and quirky 1920's and 1930's bungalows painted in tropical colors. The people here are so nice and welcoming. And the food! Oh my goodness. It is so good! Paula Deen is the most notable cook (she has a house near us) but there are many other talented chefs to rival Paula here on Tybee Island. Don't miss Sundae Cafe, StingRays and AJ's while you are here! The beach was recently named the cleanest beach in the US for air and water purity. There are so many beautiful things to see here. And there are many fun events throughout the year. The Tybee Island events and parades are so fun! Take a look at the map and list of our favorite restaurants and activities in the laundry room so you won't miss the best things to do and see. We love Tybee and believe you will too.
What makes this House unique
The marsh views cannot be described adequately. You look out and see wildlife and miles of marsh. It is breathtaking. And so peaceful. The house is centrally located on the island. You can ride bikes to favorite lunch and dinner spots. We keep a list of our favorite restaurants and activities at the house so you will know the very best places to go, just like a local. The grocery store is only 6 blocks away which is so convenient. The YMCA is 6 blocks the other way in case you want some Gym time. At night you will be amazed at the array of stars you see from the deck. When we are up on that deck, all the problems of the world disappear. Ping-pong tournaments are so fun. Or you can watch one of the many movies in the great room. Be sure to go to AJ's Dockside for dinner one evening. It is a short bike ride around the marsh to the back river. There is a map of the island at the house that will show you the way. The suset at AJ's is almost as wonderful as the one at Heron Hideaway!

It was very nice! Roomy and wonderfully decorated with all the antiques and seashore decor.
A short walk to the beach, but due to unusual weather, it was pretty cool most of the time. It was great to have comfortable surroundings when we were stuck inside. Beds were a bit hard, but no complaints about anything else! I’d recommend Heron Hideaway to all my friends! Only a half hour from Savannah so there was plenty to do.
Lovely home with all the right comforts and beautiful views for a perfect weekend
Spent a long weekend at Heron Hideaway for a girlfriend's get-away. The home was lovely and very comfortable to relax and enjoy our time together. The house is immaculate and very well kept with plenty of rooms/ beds/ and bathrooms for all. We stayed in one night for dinner and cocktails and had everything we could possibly need in a very well appointed kitchen. The sunset views from the 3rd floor are amazing and should not be missed. Charlotte and Paul were great hosts and very responsive to any inquiry we had. They left a book with lots of local tips and recommendations that helped make navigating the island as well as restaurant and activity choices very easy. Hope to have the opportunity to stay again soon.
Nicest House Yet!
This house was much nicer than most vacation rentals. The open floor plan was great! The cook never missed a thing! The kitchen was fully equipped with a mixer, crockpot and all the utensils you need.
The furniture and beds were very comfortable. The master bedroom is huge and the master shower was like a resort shower.
We LOVED the back deck at sunset. Amazing!
The beach is just 5 short blocks from the house and they have a wagon you can take to the beach. Perfect!
We will come back again!
A delightful, happy place to stay.
We spent Thanksgiving week in Heron Hideaway and would go back again. The house was very clean, the beds were very comfortable and the decor was delightful and fun. We arrived after dark and the lights were on for us and nice music was playing. What a wonderful welcome after a long car ride. There was plenty of room for the six of us. It was chilly outside some days but the house was warm and cozy. We were glad we brought our own beach chairs and beach towels because there were none in the house and we were able to sit on the beach 2 of the days which is just a short walk away. The IGA grocery was also a short walk away and it had every thing we needed. The views of the marsh were beautiful. The owners got back to us very quickly when we had a question. WiFi and TVs work great
Lovely Stay at the Hideaway
Our family definitely enjoyed our stay in Heron Hideaway. The house was perfect for my wife, two daughters and I. We had plenty of room for personal space in the the well appointed rooms. Sunsets on the deck off the Master Bedroom were a daily ritual during our late August stay unless we were still enjoying ourselves in nearby Savannah. If you go to laid-back Tybee, staying at Heron Hideaway will make your vacation even more enjoyable.
Clean and spacious. Had a great time. Wonderful view
The home is very well set up and has lots of amenities. Would definitely stay here again. If I had one small critique it would be that it would be really nice to have beach chairs available at the unit. We recommend renting the bikes - they were great and well worth the cost for the convenience. I just disliked the idea of having to rent chairs which have typically been included in our rental experience. Kayaking to Little Tybee was definitely a highlight. Overall we had a terrific time and we hope to return some day.
Tybee Island, Georgia is the place in our hearts. When you cross the marsh to get to Tybee your blood pressure automatically drops and your heart will begin to sing. A good Tybee friend who spent childhood summers here told me that when they crossed over the Bull River bridge her mother told the children to roll down the windows and let all their worries fly away. No wonder they filmed 'The Last Song' on Tybee. It is a breathtaking place with small town charm. Added bonus: Tybee offers the island experience but if you want fine dining and a beautiful, historic city, just drive 20 minutes down Highway 80 and you are in historic downtown Savannah. There is no place like Tybee. And we have explored many places. We love riding bikes around the island and looking at the beautiful New Orleans walk-up style houses as well as the quaint and quirky 1920's and 1930's bungalows painted in tropical colors.
