About Alan

GySgt (retired 1983-2003) United States Marine Corps. Born, raised and currently reside in Western Pennsylvania

Alan purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Alan chose Pennsylvania

2 acres of spacious, flat land surrounded by beautiful beech, pine and walnut trees that provides ample shading on those hot, summer days; not to mention a fantastic fishing stream runs through the back of the property. The wildlife is amazing to see which includes Elk, deer, bear, turkey and much more. The cabin is close to all local attractions such as the Elk Visitor Center and local restaurants which include the Benezette Hotel; Old Bull Café; Benezette Store/Restaurant; Benezette Wines and much more.

What makes this cabin unique

Wildlife viewing right on the property such as Elk; Deer; Turkey and a wide variety of bird species. Step out of the back door onto a very large/spacious deck which is fantastic for entertainment and a spectacular view of the Pennsylvania Wilds and the sound of Hicks Run, which is a very short distance away, for some fantastic Trout fishing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful stay at this cozy cottage. The fireplace was what brought us there, but there was so much more. The elk were plentiful and to watch the deer walk through the yard by the light of the full moon was an additional blessing. Meeting Allan and his wife was also a privilege.

This cabin was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Camp Critter was beyond amazing. We enjoyed every aspect! The creek and fire pit were a perfect hang out. We spent the warm days playing in the creek and the cool evenings by the fire. The cabin was comfortable and nicely renovated. The front porch was nice to sit and read during the afternoons. Thank you so much for letting us rent your cabin! We plan on coming back again!

Wonderful area, nice cabin and beautiful wildlife.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was nice, area was amazing with so much to see. Creek outback was nice with wonderful mountain views. Elk came into the yard almost every evening. Night sky was awesome. Saw 50-60 elk , 50-60 deer and a huge black bear all within a few miles of the cabin. Kids had fun exploring and loved driving all the mountain roads.

Great Space for a Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Camp Critter. The cabin comfortably fit 8 adults for a "boys weekend" reunion over July 4th.

There is tons of hard space for yard games of all kinds, and big tables on the back porch which were perfect for serving dinner after using the barbeque!

Fire pit is a ways behind the cabin, but has lots of seating, and another picnic table back there for anything you want to bring out to the fire. The Creek is back here as well, and very refreshing on a hot day.

It rained a couple nights for us, so the covered front porch came in very handy as a place to hang out and still be outside. We even saw a group of 6 Elk wander into the yard, and got to watch one about 40 feet from the front porch.

We had struggled to find information on hiking trails prior to our trip, but there were some maps and info pamphlets in the cabin which was helpful.

Definitely plan to bring your own water, especially in hot summer months. We got more or less used to the smell after a few days (not overpowering, but noticeable when running water), but I wouldn't want to have to drink it personally.

All in all we had a great time, thanks Alan and Yvonne!

Very clean, updated, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was very clean, no extremely close neighbors. We used the fire pit every night! Perfect location in between attractions! Elk were in the back yard the first night we were there! Kitchen is packed with utensils, pots and pans, etc if you do not have the space to pack these items this cabin is a must!

Elk viewing areas throughout Benezette and close to cabin. Elk bugle season begins in September and continues well into the month of October; truly fascinating to view and hear them 'bugling' in the wild and within close range...a must see event!! Visitors from all over come to witness this amazing show.
