About Augusta:

Augusta became the capital of Maine in 1827. The Kennebec River splices Augusta in half. Unlike many towns in this situation, however, it has retained its integrity as a single city rather than dividing into two entities.

The Maine State Museum is a must-see for anyone wanting to know more about the state, its environment, and history. Other points of interest include: The State House, Children's Discovery Museum, Old Fort Western and Blaine House.

Come visit. You will not be disappointed!!

Wonderful lake house

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay in the cottage - a lovely and very cozy home away from home. There is plenty of room for 2 families, very easy access to the lake, 2 kayaks and a canoe are in perfect shape and even a surprise paddle boat which was not mentioned in the description... We enjoyed exploring the lake and fishing, hiking and sitting at the campfire... Our three teenagers were more than happy to hang out in the basement with a separate TV, solid Internet connection and plenty of board games. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone who is looking to spend their vacation in Main.

P.S. I do agree with the previous review that nets on the bedroom windows need to be installed.

Lovely Low Key Vacation Spot - 4+

  • 4 of 5

We travel to Maine every other year and we had a great time at this lakeside vacation home. There was a great amount of space for the five of us to either be together or to find some solitude (my 12-year-old daughter enjoyed sneaking away to the basement to be alone with her iPad and phone). The house had all the amenities that we could ask for; lots of space to spread out, a nice kitchen with lots of counter space, dishwasher, and kitchen gadgets, and an extra table in the basement for games and puzzles. The one thing that I didn't like was that there were no screens on three of the bedroom windows and with it being so warm we wanted to open the windows but couldn't because of the number of bugs.

The pond was great and the kayaks and canoe were so wonderful to have as well as lifejackets and paddles that were in great shape. The dock (seemed pretty new and made of nylon? so no splinters) was on a nice calm cove on the pond and there was a cool island with a rope swing across the way. We enjoyed paddling over, exploring the island and swinging out into the water.

All-in-all a great vacation where we did little besides nap, eat, and enjoy the water. Augusta is nearby and is a quaint little town, the Maine State Museum was a surprisingly enjoyable museum despite being small -- had a wonderful exhibit on water-powered sawmills.

I would recommend this home to friends.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the feedback. Sadly the screens were damaged during a previous guest stay and we sent them out for repair. Our apologies for them being missing.

Beautiful and relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful house on a private area of the lake. The house was clean and roomy. Plenty of great fishing, caught a ton of large and small mouth bass, even caught a few good size ones right from the dock. The owners are nice and respond quickly to any questions. This a great place for a nice family vacation and if you go, be sure to check out the Red Barn for some awesome seafood. You won't be disappointed with this house!!!!

Beautiful Location, Nice house.

  • 4 of 5

We just got back from a week's long vacation here yesterday. Wish we were still there. The house is very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. It is well equipped. The back porch overlooking the pond and lake is definitely the best feature. It was really hot while we were there, which I know is highly unusual for Maine. With no a/c in the house we were sweating upstairs, but the basement is the best kept secret for that. Cool as can be.

The fishing was great. We caught lots of fish from the dock. On day 2 we caught a very big large mouth bass, swimming right by the dock. We also enjoyed cooling off in the pond during the day.
