Jennifer purchased this cottage in 2009
Lovely property, well maintained and surrounded by animals (chickens, a cat and a dog!). It was so quiet and peaceful. Jennifer left us to our own devices and gave us lots of privacy. Lots of mosquitoes so bring some personal repellent. It is a great spot to do the Road to Hana. Breakfast at Colleens, dinner at Flatbread Company and a fancy meal at Mamma's Fish House.
Thank you Jennifer for a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in Maui for 10 days & spent 3 days of it in Haiku. It was an excellent decision not only to be close to the activities on the north side of the island but because the experience we had staying in this house. Jennifer let my kids (ages 11 & 13) pick a few pieces of fruit from her trees & bring back a couple of fresh eggs from her hens. It's been all they've talked about since we got home. The accommodations are nice, a lot of space with the 2 bedrooms. The kids felt like they had their own house since they had their own mini kitchen in their room. Very close to Twin Falls & other hiking spots. Also gave us a jump start on the Hana crowd. We left at 7:30am & took our time & didn't run into a lot of folks. It felt like it did when we visited 15 years ago. Definitely recommend Haiku Anuenue.
My husband and I stayed for 8 nights. We chose to stay here because it was close to my son's home and it gave us a great place to visit with our newest granddaughter, age 3 months. By having the whole cottage we had a bedroom for ourselves with a bathroom ensuite(studio end) and a bedroom for my daughter in law to nurse the baby and put her down for naps. The extra bedroom also made it possible for the little family to spend the night when a storm with heavy rain came through. The full size kitchen and dining area provided plenty of room for the 4 of us to have meals in, while the location made dining out in Paia and Haiku convenient. We enjoyed hearing the chickens in the morning(and watching the sheepdog puppy try to herd them, too). The cottage was well stocked and the only improvement I would make is to put a removable shower head with a hose for the very small shower in the studio apartment.
We chose Haikuanuenue as a quiet, rural place to stay off the Hana Highway. It was a great place for two couples to stay - we had the entire building, two units, for a reasonable price. Great to have cooking facilities and access to fresh tangerines & papaya in the yard. Owner was friendly & helpful. Nice to get away from the crowds. Biggest challenge is finding the place - directions from owner need to be updated.. We went in daylight, it would be a challenge to find in the dark.
We stayed here for Thanksgiving and had the best time. The location was so beautiful and tropical. We felt so welcomed and can't wait to go back.
This oceanview cottage delivers on everything it promises! Pretty, private, comfortable, affordable, and most of all DIFFERENT from what most visitors experience on Maui. You're in "residential country" here in Haiku, nowhere near the west-side tourist crowd, although the island is small enough that we still indulged a beach day in Wailea and a night in Lahaina. In Haiku, however, my college-age kids took morning runs through the neighborhood hills, spent time checking out the art and music in nearby Paia, and got to sleep later than any of the other tourists who made their way to a 3:30am shuttle that departed from Haiku to the top of Haleakala for the sunrise bike ride down. This is also a great place to jumpstart the Road to Hana. Last but not least, Jennifer and Andy were friendly but unobtrusive hosts for our family of 6. They only had to remind us once that this is "quiet country" at night, and I mention that only because it's worth noting you might prefer a west-side hotel if you're looking to party after the sun goes down. We did just fine enjoying our night in Lahaina and driving back "home" to Haiku. And we left Maui believing we had a truer sense of the place than if we had chosen elsewhere.
