Romantic Getaway in the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,500 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

The 'Catbird Seat', is our beautiful custom cedar home in exclusive Leatherwood Mountains, 'sitting pretty' on the top of a ridge with 270 degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Breathtaking sunsets, morning mists, autumn colors and milky way nights can be seen from the hot tub on the front covered porch.;

We have updated the kitchen with all new appliances giving everything a sleek look.

2BR/2B wood floors, tongue and groove walls & Cathedral ceiling makes this home very inviting . On cool nights you can sit in front of the gas fireplace and get toasty warm. It's 23,000 BTU's warm up the entire house.

The kitchen has beautiful stone tiles and solid pine cabinets.

Washer/Dryer has it's own niche behind bi-fold doors.

Master Bedroom has a king size bed and adjoining full bath; Guest room has a Queen bed across the hall from another full bath.

Numerous windows allow natural light to come in, along with views of wildlife and nature.

On almost 5,000 acres and 100 miles of private trails, Leatherwood Mountains is the perfect getaway for trail riders and hikers who enjoy packing a lunch and heading up the mountain to enjoy the rushing water of the creeks, the views, and the serenity.

Horse boarding available; Guided trail rides can be arranged. Hiking starts right out the front door.

Kayaking, white water rafting, fly fishing, fresh water fishing, tennis, pool, playground all available.

Beautiful Mountain Weddings can be arranged.

18 miles(40 min) from Boone, Blowing Rock. Skiing an hour away; you will have your days filled.

Or, you just might want to spend the time in the hot tub with that special someone enjoying a romantic, secluded getaway.

Word of caution, in the mountains there are many "bugs," insects, etc. Chiggers are the worst. They reside in the grass . It is best not to wear shorts in the summer..but pants and use a good bug spray. Bring a bottle of clear nail polish along in case you do get a chigger bite. Apply nail polish to the bite .

About management

My husband and I fell in love with horses and mountains on a family vacation to Montana. To get away from the Arizona summer heat, we went every summer.

After my son started college we decided to buy horses. What a disaster ! Eventually we did find 2 well broke Tennessee Walkers that we rode in the Arizona mountains, across rivers no less! We were naive; We trusted the advice of other horsemen, and had a great time. We felt no fear crossing rushing water waist deep. NOW, 20 years later? You would not be able to get me to do that for love or money!

We relocated to the Southeast with our 2 horses, dogs, and kitties and set up Morningstar Farms.

Suddenly, finding myself on 40 acres, instead of a postage stamp, my horse collection grew!

We enjoyed 10 years of breeding and raising Tennessee Walkers; getting involved with rescue organizations , and trail riding with friends.

management purchased this cabin in 2010

Why management chose Ferguson

Our dream was to find a place in the mountains with trails right outside our door. Loading up horses in the trailer and driving hours was no longer do-able.

We found our 'Catbird Seat' on top of the mountain surrounded by nature's beauty. Vacationing in the mountains has always seemed the ultimate in relaxation. In it's casual setting, our cabin is easy to feel relaxed and laid back in.

What makes this cabin unique

With retirement still a few years off, we enjoy our cabin on occasional weekends. I want to share the peaceful feeling of these mountains with others. When my guests arrive home after a few days, or week in these tranquil surroundings, they can pass that feeling onto their family and friends. It will make the world a better place.

Great views, perfectly secluded, and pet friendly!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin had everything that we needed. Great views and outdoor seating to accommodate us no matter the the weather. We loved being able to cook in a fully functional kitchen and spend our evenings in the hot tub while our dogs relaxed on the porch with us. The seclusion of the cabin was perfect but we were still close to the breweries and restaurants in Boone and Blowing Rock that we wanted to check out. Everything was clean and there was plenty of towels, extra blankets, etc.

Being able to travel with our dogs was definitely the highlight for us though. We hate leaving them behind so this was ideal. We loved every second of our stay and look forward to coming back soon.

Owner's Response: Thanks for such a nice review. We too look for rentals that allow our dogs. Not so easy to find. That is why we allow guests to bring them . Our furry friends are our family too!

In the woods with pleasant view of mountains.

  • 5 of 5

Very clean for older cabin. Excellent wi-fi and miles of private roads to walk. All trails are for horses, but roads through resort are barley traveled and offer strenuous workout. We took our dogs and enjoyed pleasant evenings on the porch with a bottle of wine, as well as coffee in the mornings. lots of notes around about how things work that need updating as somewhat faded. We arrived early evening on warm day and the AC did not work. Called owner and within 30 minutes we had big fans, and an hour later a repair man showed up to fix. Great service! Nice kitchen too for cooking at home. Enjoyed our stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I was so pleased that I was able to get the HVAC man out there after hours, and that it was a quick fix! You must visit in the Fall. The colors are gorgeous!

The cabin was as advertised and the views were wonderful. In the mornings we would walk the dog and of course see a family of deer doing the same thing.

We would return for the beauty and peaceful surroundings. On top of that the shower and water pressure were awesome!

Beautiful Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the cabin for a long weekend getaway. The views from the porch and hot tub are awesome! The kitchen has everything you need to cook big meals. You can walk right from the cabin to miles of hiking trails. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others looking for a peaceful getaway.

Amazing all around!!!

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful cabin tucked away in the middle of nowhere! It was very clean, stocked well with supplies and very quiet. We loved watching the sunset fall behind the mountain range from the rocking chairs on the front porch and hot tub. Blowing Rock is a quick 45 minute drive through beautiful scenery for a great meal and shopping! Hiking trails are less than a 10 minute walk (head right out of driveway, you'll see Ambush Trail on the right side of th road). It's a moderate to strenuous hike! Our dogs loved running around the woods without a leash, freeing them from the normal restrictions of city life :). Liz was very easy to work with and ensured our stay was pleasant. We'll be back!
