Word of caution, in the mountains there are many "bugs," insects, etc.
Chiggers are the worst. They reside in the grass . It is best not to wear shorts in the summer..but pants and use a good bug spray. Bring a bottle of clear nail polish along in case you do get a chigger bite. Apply nail polish to the bite .

My husband and I fell in love with horses and mountains on a family vacation to Montana. To get away from the Arizona summer heat, we went every summer.
After my son started college we decided to buy horses. What a disaster ! Eventually we did find 2 well broke Tennessee Walkers that we rode in the Arizona mountains, across rivers no less! We were naive; We trusted the advice of other horsemen, and had a great time. We felt no fear crossing rushing water waist deep. NOW, 20 years later? You would not be able to get me to do that for love or money!
We relocated to the Southeast with our 2 horses, dogs, and kitties and set up Morningstar Farms.
Suddenly, finding myself on 40 acres, instead of a postage stamp, my horse collection grew!
We enjoyed 10 years of breeding and raising Tennessee Walkers; getting involved with rescue organizations , and trail riding with friends.
management purchased this cabin in 2010
Our dream was to find a place in the mountains with trails right outside our door. Loading up horses in the trailer and driving hours was no longer do-able.
We found our 'Catbird Seat' on top of the mountain surrounded by nature's beauty. Vacationing in the mountains has always seemed the ultimate in relaxation. In it's casual setting, our cabin is easy to feel relaxed and laid back in.
With retirement still a few years off, we enjoy our cabin on occasional weekends. I want to share the peaceful feeling of these mountains with others. When my guests arrive home after a few days, or week in these tranquil surroundings, they can pass that feeling onto their family and friends. It will make the world a better place.
My wife and I stayed in the Cat Bird Seat over a long weekend for our anniversary. It was absolutely perfect! The cabin is warm and inviting. Liz has lots of amenities set up, including a small library of books, games, and toys to keep people entertained. Not that we used any of it. With a stunning vista on either side of the house, our choices were mainly "grill out while gazing at beautiful mountains" or "sit in the hot tub while gazing at beautiful mountains."
The best part about this cabin is its privacy. It is part of a neighborhood that's wrapped around the mountain. However, it's no cheap camp ground with cabins lined up in a row. They are spread out, and the foliage is dense enough to completely obscure your view of anybody else. We could not see the road from our cabin or our cabin from the road. It was far more secluded than most of the other cabins on the mountain.
At the base of the mountain is a little restaurant and horse ranch. The cabin is not affiliated with them, but they are very friendly and inviting. We wandered around on their trails and rented a couple horses for a tour, and the whole experience was wonderful. The scenery is truly idyllic, with rocky mountain streams babbling around every corner.
We will definitely recommend this place to others. From my limited experience, it's hard to find a rental cabin that isn't part of a cookie cutter chain. This is definitely out of that mold, and for anybody trying to get away from the world for a bit, it's exactly what you need.
My husband and I stayed at the cabin for a long weekend getaway. The views from the porch and hot tub are awesome! The kitchen has everything you need to cook big meals. You can walk right from the cabin to miles of hiking trails. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others looking for a peaceful getaway.
Such a wonderful cabin tucked away in the middle of nowhere! It was very clean, stocked well with supplies and very quiet. We loved watching the sunset fall behind the mountain range from the rocking chairs on the front porch and hot tub. Blowing Rock is a quick 45 minute drive through beautiful scenery for a great meal and shopping! Hiking trails are less than a 10 minute walk (head right out of driveway, you'll see Ambush Trail on the right side of th road). It's a moderate to strenuous hike! Our dogs loved running around the woods without a leash, freeing them from the normal restrictions of city life :). Liz was very easy to work with and ensured our stay was pleasant. We'll be back!
My honey and I booked for a 2 night weekend stay in early October. The house and surroundings were lovely. We especially enjoyed the hot tub and the beautiful view from the deck. It was very quiet and peaceful, exactly what we needed.
This cabin felt remote but still an easy drive to a lot of local attractions. Very quiet and relaxing, beautiful views and the cabin itself was clean and comfortable. I would happily book it again.
Comfy bed, all the kitchen amenities, hot tub was perfect with the view, wifi and satellite tv worked great
There's an empty wall in the master suite that needs a flat screen tv on it, it would complete the room
Restaurant at the bottom of the mountain, horseback riding was nice, staff was very friendly,
