Overview

Ferguson Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2br 2b , Large Open Kitchen And Family Room With Views Mountain from windows!

The 'Catbird Seat' is our beautiful custom cedar home in exclusive Leatherwood Mountians, 'sitting pretty' on the top of a ridge with 270 degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Breathtaking sunsets, morning mists, autumn colors and milky way nights can be seen from the hot tub on the front covered porch.

We have updated the kitchen with all new appliances and huge sink giving everything a sleek look.

2BR/2B ; Large Family Room/Kitchen Area, wood floors, tongue and groove walls & Cathedral ceiling make this home very inviting . On cool nights you can sit in front of the gas fireplace and get toasty warm. It's 23,000 BTU's warm up the entire house.

The kitchen has beautiful stone tiles and solid pine cabinets.

Washer/Dryer has it's own niche , behind bi-fold doors.

Master Bedroom has a king size bed and adjoining full bath; Guest room has a Queen bed across the hall from another full bath.

Numerous windows allow natural light to come in, along with views of wildlife and nature.

On almost 5,000 acres and 100 miles of private trails, Leatherwood Mountains is the perfect getaway for trail riders and hikers who enjoy packing a lunch and heading up the mountain to enjoy the rushing water of the creeks, the views, and the serenity.

Horse boarding available; Guided trails rides can be arranged.

Hiking can be done starting right out the front door. There are over 100 miles of hiking trails in this development of 2,000 acres. Also available: Kayaking, rafting, fishing, restaurants.

18 miles(40 min) from Boone, Blowing Rock, all the ski resorts are an hour away; you will have your days filled.

Or, you just might want to spend the time in the hot tub with that special someone enjoying a romantic, secluded getaway.

Word of caution, in the mountains there are many "bugs," insects, etc.

Chiggers are the worst. They reside in the grass . It is best not to wear shorts in the summer..but pants and use a good bug spray. Bring a bottle of clear nail polish along in case you do get a chigger bite. Apply nail polish to the bite .

If you are interested in a vacation home, our cabin is up for sale.

About management

My husband and I fell in love with horses and mountains on a family vacation to Montana. To get away from the Arizona summer heat, we went every summer.

After my son started college we decided to buy horses. What a disaster ! Eventually we did find 2 well broke Tennessee Walkers that we rode in the Arizona mountains, across rivers no less! We were naive; We trusted the advice of other horsemen, and had a great time. We felt no fear crossing rushing water waist deep. NOW, 20 years later? You would not be able to get me to do that for love or money!

We relocated to the Southeast with our 2 horses, dogs, and kitties and set up Morningstar Farms.

Suddenly, finding myself on 40 acres, instead of a postage stamp, my horse collection grew!

We enjoyed 10 years of breeding and raising Tennessee Walkers; getting involved with rescue organizations , and trail riding with friends.

management purchased this cabin in 2010

Why management chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

Our dream was to find a place in the mountains with trails right outside our door. Loading up horses in the trailer and driving hours was no longer do-able.

We found our 'Catbird Seat' on top of the mountain surrounded by nature's beauty. Vacationing in the mountains has always seemed the ultimate in relaxation. In it's casual setting, our cabin is easy to feel relaxed and laid back in.

What makes this cabin unique

With retirement still a few years off, we enjoy our cabin on occasional weekends. I want to share the peaceful feeling of these mountains with others. When my guests arrive home after a few days, or week in these tranquil surroundings, they can pass that feeling onto their family and friends. It will make the world a better place.

Beautiful Little Piece of Quiet

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in the Cat Bird Seat over a long weekend for our anniversary. It was absolutely perfect! The cabin is warm and inviting. Liz has lots of amenities set up, including a small library of books, games, and toys to keep people entertained. Not that we used any of it. With a stunning vista on either side of the house, our choices were mainly "grill out while gazing at beautiful mountains" or "sit in the hot tub while gazing at beautiful mountains."

The best part about this cabin is its privacy. It is part of a neighborhood that's wrapped around the mountain. However, it's no cheap camp ground with cabins lined up in a row. They are spread out, and the foliage is dense enough to completely obscure your view of anybody else. We could not see the road from our cabin or our cabin from the road. It was far more secluded than most of the other cabins on the mountain.

At the base of the mountain is a little restaurant and horse ranch. The cabin is not affiliated with them, but they are very friendly and inviting. We wandered around on their trails and rented a couple horses for a tour, and the whole experience was wonderful. The scenery is truly idyllic, with rocky mountain streams babbling around every corner.

We will definitely recommend this place to others. From my limited experience, it's hard to find a rental cabin that isn't part of a cookie cutter chain. This is definitely out of that mold, and for anybody trying to get away from the world for a bit, it's exactly what you need.

Beautiful setting

  • 4 of 5

This cabin felt remote but still an easy drive to a lot of local attractions. Very quiet and relaxing, beautiful views and the cabin itself was clean and comfortable. I would happily book it again.

Wonderful location, view is excellent

  • 5 of 5

Comfy bed, all the kitchen amenities, hot tub was perfect with the view, wifi and satellite tv worked great

There's an empty wall in the master suite that needs a flat screen tv on it, it would complete the room

Restaurant at the bottom of the mountain, horseback riding was nice, staff was very friendly,

The Perfect Get-A-Way

  • 5 of 5

My Fiancé and I stayed at Liz’s lovely cabin in the mountains June 2015. We were looking for peace and quiet, a great view, and something private – “to get away from it all”. The Catbird Seat fit the bill and then some… The cabin is located in a well maintained cabin community with cabins dotted along the mountainsides. Each cabin is secluded, and gives you that lovely privacy so sought after, yet you don’t feel utterly isolated.

The cabin itself is very nicely appointed, with comfortable chairs and a sofa that invites you to sit and relax (for hours!). The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well-equipped, and as a whole, the entire cabin is well-maintained and attractively decorated. It was exceptionally clean upon arrival – something one doesn’t always see. In addition, strolling around the cabin was a delight in and of itself because of the wild blooming shrubs and flowers as well as those planted by the owners.

As for the view… you can see it on the website, but having lived in the Smoky Mountains all our lives and being used to incredible vistas, you just can’t describe it until you see it! We spent the vast majority of our time on the porch – from morning to night, enjoying the ever-changing mountains, watching several Pileated Wood Peckers swooping through the trees, and delighting as a thunderstorm majestically pounded down across the mountains in front of us and rolled over us (nope, we didn’t get wet!), and relaxing in the utter peace and quiet of the gentle breeze that was almost constant. Despite the time of year, we encountered no mosquitoes and very few bugs.

Liz and her husband have books and movies, music and games… but we preferred that extraordinary mountain view, the hot tub, and grilling! In fact, we never once left the cabin or its surroundings. What a perfect get-a-way! We enjoyed ourselves so much, were so very comfortable, that we intend to honeymoon at the Catbird Seat.

Liz was more than accommodating, and we look forward to dealing with her again… and again!
