This Grade II listed former dairy and shippen is located at the entrance to the farm. We have retained original features wherever possible in this unique courtyard conversion and have used reclaimed timber wherever possible throughout the building.
Downstairs there is an extremely spacious and well-equipped kitchen/diner featuring glass doors and panels along one wall. Upstairs, the huge sitting room features a wood burner, open beamed ceiling and glass roof panels. There is also a separate small playroom/sitting room downstairs.
The two double bedrooms each have an ensuite shower room and unique features. There is a twin bedroom downstairs and a bunk bedroom and twin bedroom upstairs.
There is a small enclosed garden with patio at the back of Brimbles (accessed from the downstairs playroom) which leads to a small fenced area of wooded garden.
Situated close on the edge of the small hamlet of Poughill, in the heart of the tourist-free Mid-Devon countryside, the Barton is a small family run farm. Our land is grazed by a small herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle and a few sheep and chickens. Produce from the farm is usually available, including home reared beef and lamb, eggs, apple juice and cider from our orchards and seasonal fruit and vegetables.
We offer a choice of two spacious cottages, The Barton Granary and Brimbles, both converted from Grade II Listed barns, are comfortably furnished and well-equipped.
We are able to offer the added attraction of a small indoor heated swimming pool which is available all year round, together with a small enclosed children's play area.
In The Carriage House, we have a wellie bank (in case you forget yours and wish to explore the farm) outdoor and beach toys and games, a DVD library and selection of guide books and maps to borrow.
**Please note that regrettably we are unable to accept pets with the exception of assistance dogs**

A group of us stayed here recently for a special birthday and we all loved the place! The barn has been beautifully restored and is now a wonderful place to stay. Anne and Phil have thought of everything from a most informative book on how to work everything, bathrobes, right through to providing dishwasher tablets! The beds were amazingly comfortable and the swimming pool a treat.
Would definitely recommend a stay here and will definitely go back!
I booked Brimbles for 6 adults and 3 children to celebrate our family Christmas. My husband, son and I had the furthest to travel and arrived after the arrival time, but Anne gave the rest of our party a warm welcome in my absence and ran through property information. We received some lovely extras - including a Christmas tree and decorations and scrummy mince pies which was a nice touch. We had ordered some meat from the farm and it was all waiting in the fridge for us as requested (and was delicious!).
The setting and the property itself are fantastic - the kitchen/diner and lounge areas are perfect for large parties to congregate and the bedrooms and generous amount of bathrooms were great.
Now to the pool! Needless to say we went in pretty much every day, often more than once! It is a good size and heated with a generous changing area. It is attached directly to Brimbles from the kitchen which is an advantage, particularly in winter!
It was wonderful to spend time in this beautiful rural area, especially as my husband, son and I live in London. You really are away from it all here as mobile signal and Wi-Fi were pretty much non-existent. A refreshing change!! It is part of a working farm, and so we saw sheep, cows and chickens on our daily travels. The weather was not good enough to spend much time outside but I imagine it would be great to get a taste of farm life in the summer.
I would definitely recommend Brimbles to anyone looking to rent a large property and I hope we can return some day. Thanks again to Anne and Phil for letting us share part of their home.
We have returned to Brimbles once more and once more it does not disappoint. Anne and Phil take great care to ensure that the cottages are equipped with everything you could possibly need. We made full use of the pool - perfect for our children, the shallow end shallow enough for the little ones to stand in, but deep enough to swim in. All the energy expended in the pool ensured that they slept well! The feeling of space in Brimbles is amazing - always possible to find a quiet corner to read a book, this is no cramped cottage. As ever the kitchen was the hub of our stay - large enough for the children to run around in whilst we pottered about cooking, and there was plenty of space for the 9 of us each day to eat together around the table.
The farm shop just outside Cheriton Fitzpaine is well worth a visit - excellent butchery and choice of veg, as is the cheese shop in Crediton.
A very relaxing week was had by all - we will be back!
After visiting and staying at Brimbles quite a few times now, I can not recommend this high enough. The accommodation is very well equipped and extremely clean and spacious. Even on those wet days you can find a corner in the house if you want to be away from the crowd. Anne and Phil are wonderful hosts and if you want to stay in for a celebratory meal Anne will even cook for you by prior arrangement and let me tell you she is an exceptional cook! The local scenery is stunning and you are within easy reach of either coast about 40 mins. The pool is an added bonus and is accessed two doors that are locked by pin number so no need to worry about young ones getting in un-accompanied. There are walks around the farm which are very picturesque, and you can even help out at feeding times by just asking. Go and have a wonderful time.
The village of Poughill is a perfect base for exploring Devon. We are halfway between Exmoor and Dartmoor and halfway between the coasts. Many guests return year after year to enjoy the peace and quiet and dark night skies - perfect for meteor watching!
The beautiful city of Exeter with its Cathedral, historic quay, huge selection of restaurants and excellent shopping is within easy reach and the local small town of Crediton (less than 15 minutes drive) has a high street of thriving independent shops, good delis, restaurants and cafes and an award winning Farmers Market on the first and third Saturday of most months.
There's plenty of walking for all in Devon with treks on the moors, level easy walks perfect for children, along the Tiverton Canal or the Tarka Trail in North Devon, or the Exe Valley way in Exeter. There are also a couple of circular walks direct from the door.
Golf (courses suitable for all levels), fishing and riding stables are all nearby and several National Trust properties (Knightshayes, Killerton and Castle Drogo are the closest) and numerous family attractions (including the Devon Railway Centre, Diggerland and The Big Sheep) are within easy reach.
There are numerous pubs and restaurants within 30 minutes driving distance ranging from our rather good local pub in the neighbouring village of Cheriton Fitzpaine (The Ring of Bells) which serves excellent food and craft beers) to The Mason's Arms, a Michelin Starred restaurant and country pub owned and run by Mark Dodson, formerly Head Chef of the Waterside Inn in Bray.
