Family Reunion, Retreat, Couples Weekend - an Entire East Texas Luxury Compound

Bedrooms 5
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

90 mins from Dallas: 5 Bedrooms + Bunk House + pool + Gazebo + Lake - sleeps 18

First watch our story on Channel 8 ABC to see The Veranda in all its glory:

Reunion, Anniversary, Wedding, Family Retreat or Couples Weekend - enjoy an entire compound! Originally a bed & breakfast - The Veranda is a glorious 1920’s Victorian Home (and accompanying bunkhouse) that served as the areas most posh, upscale B&B for many years. Wealthy patrons from Dallas with lake homes on the beautiful Lake Cypress Springs referred to the “Mansion of Mt. Vernon” as the finest dining and one of the most picturesque setting in East Texas. Having just undergone a $1m+ restoration, the retreat is a 120 acre paradise incorporating a sanctuary of rest and relaxation as well as activities galore. Originally envisioned and operated by Robert Whiteside & Warren Butler, new owners Mark and Kelly Bunting made cautious (yet significant) upgrades to this famous property during the 2010-2012 season. The result is a fabulous retreat true to original intentions of the earlier owners, yet greatly enhanced and expanded. Just 100 miles due East on I-30 from Dallas – this paradise of tranquility and peace feels more like 1000 miles away!

An Awesome Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My extended family spent Christmas this year at The Veranda and it was an awesome experience and provided everyone with something to do. While some fished out of the small lake, others played cards in the house, and some were content to read a good book in the gazebo. The evenings were spent around the fire pit visiting and telling stories. The facilities are first class while retaining the charm of a bed and breakfast. Another positive is the short drive time from the DFW area. Thanks again to the owners for opening their home to our family.

A wonderful place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

The property is amazing. The lake, the landscaping, the fire pit, and paths through the woods all made our stay so enjoyable. The bed and breakfast house is so comfortable. All our guests were pleased. The bunk house was great for the young adults with us. The owner was extremely responsive to questions and issues on the property. We would definitely consider staying there again.

Great Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family of 18, ages 67 to 3, had a great time. House and bunkhouse accommodated everyone comfortably. Games in bunkhouse and basketball court were a big hit. The swimming pool was the perfect size for swimming and volleyball. The pond and fishing was great. Many fish caught by all ages. S'mores loved by all around fire pit and the Jon boat was also used by everyone. My favorite was listening to my grandchildren playing the piano in main house! Mark and Kelly answered all our concerns and very enjoyable to work with. Extremely enjoyable week!

Perfect Family Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the Veranda. The well manicured and beautiful property provides an abundance of activities for our growing and active family. Even though the temperature soared, the wrap around porch, pool and lake allowed us to enjoy the gorgeous out door in perfect comfort. Mark and Kelly were very accommodating to our every need and question. I think our grand daughter said it best as our weekend came to and end. She said, " I wish we could stay 100 days."

My family had a wonderful time at the was just as is a beautiful and well-maintained property with stunning grounds and lake views. There is so much to do there that we did not have to leave and it provided the perfect atmosphere to relax and enjoy being together. The perfect wedding venue

  • 5 of 5

The Veranda was the ideal location for our small family-centered wedding. The property was large enough so that our parents and relatives were able to stay with us for the entire wedding weekend. The house is very well maintained and has everything you could possibly need while you are there. The commercial kitchen made meal preparations a breeze. The grounds were also very impressive. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool and the men had a blast fishing on the lake every day.

We held our entire wedding weekend on the property; rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception. The gazebo was the perfect setting for our ceremony. It was large enough to comfortably accommodate forty of our nearest and dearest friends and relatives. We utilized the pool area as the setting for our cocktail hour. Our candlelight dinner reception was held along the bank of the lake, which was incredibly beautiful. If you are considering the Veranda for your wedding we highly recommend that you use the owner’s restaurant to cater the event. The majority of our guests were from Louisiana and they were very impressed with the cajun style dinner. The restaurant staff members were professional, easy to work with, and genuinely excited to be a part of our special day.

We were truly touched by the owner’s genuine interest in making sure that our special day was everything we envisioned it to be. We highly recommend the Veranda for a small wedding.
