About Carol Kaurish
I (Carol) grew up in this home. The home was built in 1954. My family farmed the land and the property is still owned by myself and two brothers. We will be glad to share with you stories about growing up in the area in the late 1940's to the present. The house sits on approximately 3 acres of land with many maple shade trees and a nice creek running through the property. My two brothers own the two farms which join my property. The neighbors are friendly and most are my friends who grew up with me. I live on a farm which is located on Limestone Drive with my husband and we are both retired. Also, we have 5 wonderful grandchildren which live nearby and 1 wonderful grandchild which lives in Hi. My husband grew up in Cold Springs, Ky. across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. If I am booked on this property you can go to another house that I have with VRBO called A Hemlock Haven Vacation Rental Property Listing No. 1656334 and see if you might want to book on that site. Thank You.

Why Carol Kaurish chose Abingdon
I have decorated the house to reflect the 1950's and 1960's. This home looks like Mother's when I was growing up and is very comfortable. It is a home where children can roam inside and outside with very nice neighbors. The place is quite and tranquil. You can sit on the deck and read a book while enjoying the beautiful mountains. Also, you can watch the fire flies at night and the many birds during the day. The surroundings are very peaceful and quite. In the evening build a fire in the fire pit (roast marshmallows & hot dogs) and have a picnic on the picnic table. When the sun goes down and night falls enjoy gazing at the beautiful moon and stars. The children can catch fireflies in the summertime. Also, take a walk whenever, lots of room to wander and children to play. Just plan on coming here to relax and have a good time with whoever travels with you. Three acre of land to roam about. We have lots of local attractions which include the Creeper Trail, Appalachian Trail, Lakes, Rivers, Museums, Theatres, and many other local attractions. Why not plan a 3 or 4 day trip and spend time riding the Creeper Trail, Bristol Home of Country Music, and then visit Carter Fold on Saturday night for old timey southern food and good music. The price for admission for the show is only $10 per person. We have lots of other places to visit where you could spend a whole day relaxing in the good old Southern way (very laid back).
What makes this House unique
Beautiful rural countryside surrounded by mountains and forest. River and lake nearby which is great for boating and fishing. Spectacular and famous (Applachian Trail, Creeper Trail) to go hiking and bicycle riding. Old country stores, replica of the Alvarado Train Station, Carter Fold, Bristol Birthplace of Country Music, Nascar Race Track (where lots of things are held beside just the 2 races each year), theatres, beautiful fields with cattle grazing, sheep, and goats. Also, enjoy shopping at the Abingdon Farmer's Market for fresh produce grown locally. We have several different festivals going on through the year. Hungary Mother Park, Backbone Rock Park, Bristol Caverns, and Hidden Valley Lake (this lake sits on top of a mountain). You can use a paddle boat but not a boat with a motor. It is very unique and different. The house has lots of room with the 4 bedrooms and basement. Lots of people enjoy walking around on the 3 acres of land and children love to roam. Also in the basement is your laundry room and a place to hang your fishing equipment, park your bicycles, coolers, etc. Lots of room. Another thing that children or teenagers enjoy is the room downstairs with 2 double beds plus a very unique and different closet. They have referred to this as their own pad. I have found in the closet a pillow and a sham where some little fellow has taken a nap. It was so sweet and brings back lots of memories of my growing up years. The reason I named it Alvarado Vacation Home is that I want everyone to feel like this is their home away from home. All the leisure of home but not having to clean but just having a lot of fun. A good place also for a homecoming or get together with family who might live in the area. Come stay with us for a week-end, few days in the week, or maybe a week or two.Just check us out. The end of my pictures are of the Creeper Trail and Alvarado Station.

Felt like home
So enjoyed our stay—roomy, comfortable, clean—it had everything we needed and very convenient to where we visiting . The owner was attentive. Would definitely be interested in staying here again!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. You all were just great and we would love for you all to come back just any time. Thank you for taking wonderful care of our vacation rental. It did not look like anyone had even stayed there. Have a wonderful year to come and do come back and see us.

Everything we needed, clean, roomy.Great setting.
Thank you for staying with us at our vacation rental. We would love to have you come back and stay with us again. Sorry that we did not get to meet you all in person but due to our doctor's appointments, we just did not get home in time. We did not want to bother you all the days following your visit, because we want our guests to enjoy all their time at the house without having us (the owners) to use any of their time. Again, thank you for your stay with us.

VA Creeper Trail Weekend
This was a great place to stay for our quick weekend trip to ride the VA Creeper Trail. Property is "as pictured" - an older home but well maintained and clean. It is what I would consider "off the beaten path" but once you get used to the rolling hills of VA , it didn't seem far away from things at all. Carol and Fred were very easy to work with-they even left us some wood for the fire pit . The property is in a beautiful location.
Thank you Nina for that wonderful review. You all took wonderful care of our vacation home. You were so nice to work with and we appreciated that very much. We would welcome your return at any time in the future. Again thank you for booking with us and come back any time in the future.

The home was nice and reminded me of my home growing up. Fred came by shortly after our arrival and was quite friendly and easy to talk with. We enjoyed the quiet of the country and I’m sure it would have been great to sit outside but it was a little too cold for that. My husband did get to play a few games of pool on the table in the basement which was definitely a plus. Location near the Creeper Trail enabled us to walk on different sections of the trail which was the reason we chose the home for our stay. Overall we had a wonderful visit. Only drawback would be the neighborhood with the abandoned mobile home falling down in the back but don’t know there’s much that can be done about that.
Thank you Sharon for that great review. The mobile home in the back yard is being remodeled and is not falling down. I do not own that mobile home and after renting on VRBO for 7 years, I have never had a complaint. We keep the lawn there mowed and the mobile home will be repaired later. My brother owns this property so it is not our responsibility. I am sorry that it bothered you.
Our neighborhood where the vacation home is located is great. I grew up there and the people are country but would help you in a minute's notice. It is one of the safest neighborhoods that you will every visit. Lots of my visitors will go across the road and chat with our neighbors who are 2 older individuals. who have lived there most of their life. They love for people to visit them from different areas. In this neighbor, people just pass their land and houses on to the next generation. I am happy to have lived there when I was growing up. I don't live there but not very far away and my neighbors are the same here. We like our country roots and tend to stay in this area. We would love for you to come back for a visit anytime.

The perfect vacation home for our needs!
I booked this house as "home base" for my crew and me for a 100 mile race I was running at the end of Sept 2019 based on its proximity to one of the aid stations. The location was absolutely perfect, and my interactions with Carol and Fred were wonderful hosts, very responsive to communications, and even helped us out by providing a cooler and chairs we could use during the race so we didn't have to purchase them. I only wish we'd have stayed longer to enjoy the back deck and firepit area! Highly recommend staying here, and we will probably book again for the race next year!
Thank you for that wonderful review. You all left our house in a very neat condition. We were so happy that we could provide you with the chairs and cooler. I hope you will come back next year and stay longer if you can. We have a lot of neat things to do in this area. Also, I (Carol) will get my facts straight and try to be there cheering you on the correct date. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you all again in the future.

Perfect Place for our annual trip
We loved our stay! The property is very well maintained, amazingly spacious backyard, and the house so clean ( I wish I could hire whomever cleaned it!)
There were 10 of us total and we had plenty of room and amenities!
We played whiffle ball in the yard, enjoyed roasting marshmallows over the fire pit and just hanging out together. Only about a 15 minute drive to downtown Damascus to get to the bike rental locations and local restaurants.
Be aware the road to get to the property is pretty winding so just take your time ..
The property owners were exceptionally responsive! We loved it and will certainly book here again! Thanks Fred and Carol!!
Thank you so much for that wonderful review. You all were very nice and kind people and took very good care of our vacation home. When I first talked to you one the phone Melissa, I knew right away that you would be a wonderful person. We would love to have you all come back just any time that would work for you all. Have a wonderful fall.

P.S. I will tell the lady who cleans for me what you said about the house being so clean. She will appreciate that very much and thank you for saying that about our vacation home.
