Historic Mule Barn in the Heart of Crested Butte

Bedrooms 3
Property type barn
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

Barn, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps up to 9)

This unique property was originally a barn for mules! No kidding! It was deconstructed and moved to a town lot for people to inhabit and enjoy. Keeping all the charm of a barn with modern day conveniences, this one of a kind property will be talked about for years to come! Three bedrooms on the lower level, one with a king bed, one queen and built in bunk bed room share a full bath. The second floor boasts a large kitchen with washer/dryer, dining and living area, and a second full bath. The upstairs loft has two twin beds and an additional single bed. For the little ones there is another small loft that can sleep two. The Barn is in walking distance to the bus stop (free bus every 15 minutes all day every day) which takes you to the base of Mt. Crested Butte ski area. It is also located in walking distance to the quaint downtown area that has unique shopping and dining opportunities. Immediately down the street is a large park with playground equipment, a soccer field and picnic pavillion with restrooms. The rec path for bikers, hikers or walkers is also a very short walk away. In summer you can hike and bike from the Barn and in winter you can cross country ski directly from the house. Included in rental are two cruiser bikes for summer or winter.

Absolutely amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

Super quiet downstairs sleeping rooms, mid level living area and 2 more levels of lofts!!! The construction of the barn inside is so incredible! Spiral staircases, natural wood work artfully designed, large open kitchen....and laundry!!! Wow this place has it all. My kids loved playing like it was their own private clubhouse.

And you are 1/2 a block from a park and only 1 and 1/2 blocks from downtown CB. This is a magical place to spend time and my only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

We had our very best nights of sleep here at the mule barn. (We are on a tour for 6 weeks all over Colorado/KS/MO)

Fantastic and Unique Place!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our recent ski trip with our 3 children (18, 17 and 14) was a huge success, in part because of the Mule Barn. In addition to being one of the most iconic homes in CB, it is super unique as well!!! We loved the place, and can think of no other place to stay when we visit CB!!!! The home itself is very comfortable and welcoming, and the unique interior design makes the place stand out from all the rest. Further, it is within walking distance to every major attraction in town (shuttle to the mountain, downtown CB, local market), but just enough out of town to enjoy some peace and quiet, if needed, after a long day on the slopes. Add to everything how easy it was to work with Susan, and you have a winning combination across the board. Simply put, the Mule Barn rocked it!!!!

Best Location in Town

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Mule Barn mid-summer with my two sisters and our kids. The location was convenient to every park in town, and just one block from free shuttle to the ski resort area. Thank goodness for the free bikes that came with the house! We all used them every day we were there. The house had every amenity you could ask for; we cooked dinners and stayed in most nights--exhausted from all the daytime activities. Really can't say enough good things about the Mule Barn and Crested Butte!

Our recent stay at the Mule Barn

  • 5 of 5

My family had another fantastic stay at the Mule Barn!! We have been staying there for the past 13 years (the front unit) and truly enjoyed visiting Susan's unit for the first time. The unit is well appointed (all new appliances) and certainly "kid friendly" as well as relaxing for the adults. The boys loved the loft, it was the perfect space for them! The location is ideal for everything you want to do in Crested Butte. A shuttle bus to the mountain is just at the end of the block. The shopping, dining and grocery store are all within walking distance. You cannot go wrong booking your stay at the Mule Barn while visiting Crested Butte.
