We live in the East Bay, we have three kids in lots of activities so we hardly ever get to go to our beloved cabin anymore, we thought that we would share it with you!
Ina & Steve Giambalvo purchased this cabin in 2009
We decided to buy in Tahoe Donner because it is centrally located to so many ski mountains, mins to casinos, mins to Truckee. It is a 2hr.30min drive from Walnut Creek, and 3 hrs from San Francisco.
When I walked into this house I could invision our family celebrating holidays, backyard summer BBQs, it was perfect! Exactly what I wanted in a cabin, I wanted to feel like we were in the mountains! We saw so many homes that we looked at reminded me of our primary. This is so unique and one of a kind. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
We had a really great time at the cabin. There was plenty of space for everyone. We loved all of the decor: Bears, American flags, folk-art, skulls (ha ha), etc. It was cozy and warm and clean. The only things that we talked about that could be improved were: The lighting. At night, it was very dark. We had to move a lamp into the dining room to play dominoes. Also, some of the light bulbs were burned out in a couple rooms and the front porch (closest to the front door). We kept walking around trying to turn the lights on and it just seemed so dim. The upside to this was that we all looked great in the dimmer lighting!
The only other thing that could be improved is the seating arrangement in the family room. It needs another couch or more chairs. For our group of 7, there wasn't really room for everyone to sit.
We all got a big kick out of the garage and that upper room with the metal door. The kids all thought that it was haunted and that little girl in the pink bunny slippers was awesome! You seem like a fun family and maybe you like to decorate for Halloween? We saw the "Keep Truckee Haunted" mug and thought that maybe there is an annual event around Halloweentime.
Anyway, we had a great time with grandma and grandpa and would recommend the house to others. Thank you.
Even before our arrival Ina and I had communicated several times. Visiting the house felt like visiting family. They anticipated our every need. We have traveled for years with a couple of families and this was by far one of our BEST experiences. The "kids" range in age from 10 - 26 but everyone was comfortable and had lots to do -- even if it was doing nothing. We were privileged with a visit from Hansel, the bear, too.
Location was awesome for hiking, biking, and lake activities. We spent time at both Donner Lake and Tahoe. Even in summer there was a variety of entertainment from the roller skating at Squaw Valley to Truckee Thursday nights. The older kids drove to Reno for a concert while the youngest girls enjoyed playing with the toys in Isabella's room. We enjoyed being together without being on top of one another. TONS of fun.
Thank You Ina & Steve.
This cabin is in a wonderful neighborhood. The setting is lovely. There are trails leading from the cabin through the forest. It is close to Donner Lake and downtown Truckee.
There were 8 of us staying overnight. There was plenty of space for everyone to have beds and privacy. The kitchen is well equipped and the dinning room is surrounded by windows to allow forest view dinning. There is a wood burning stove in the living room which helps make the cabin feel rustic and comfortable. The furnishings are just right and everything was very clean and neat. I recommend this house for a winter or summer get away.
Hi, we came out from New York during our kids February break. We had an amazing trip. The house is gorgeous, a perfect mountain getaway. All of the rooms are beautifully decorated and everything is immaculate. Ski resorts are nearby and the little town has great shops and restaurants. We also enjoyed family time at the cabin -great open floor plan downstairs-and sledding in the backyard. We can’t wait to go back, we’ve heard that the summer months are fantastic there too!
P.S. Our kids had never skied before and the equipment rental and lessons at the closest “little mountain” were excellent. Our guys were up on snowboards after a morning of lessons.
Our family was fortunate enough to stay in this beautiful Tahoe Donner home. We were beyond please with the house which is in a beautiful neighborhood within close proximity to the Tahoe Donner recreation areas, Truckee and Donner Lake. The house is gorgeous, spacious, we'll maintained, beautifully decorated and super clean. We are looking forward to our next visit.
This house is an a great location and very close to the mountain and amenities of Tahoe Donner. Restaurants and Supermarkets are a quick drive down the road.
It is very comfortable and makes you feel like you are home but are tucked away in the woods. We would definitely stay here again.
Minutes to Donner Lake with access to private beach, 2 recreation centers with pools, fitness center, golf, driving range, great hiking trails, awesome mountain biking trails, tons to do in summer months. In the winter minutes to skiing in all directions, Northstar, Sugar bowl, Squaw, Incline, Alpine Meadows, Cross country skiing, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, sledding. Just minutes to beautiful downtown Truckee, 30 minutes to Reno, 15 minutes to casinos, 20 minutes to Lake Tahoe.
