Absolutely one of our best vacations! My 11 year old said she liked it better than Disney! We we were greeted right away upon arrival and walked to our large apartment overlooking the pasture with a mountain backdrop. We had a lovely little fenced in garden area with patio swing, perfect to let out our small dog to explore. In our apartment we had a dozen fresh farm eggs and some aromatic goats milk soap waiting for us as an arrival gift. We enjoyed playing with the fusball table our first night and got settled in. Although the temperature outside was very cold, our place was cozy warm. The beds are comfortable and we slept well. Making breakfast was really easy with all the dishes and pans available. The pantry was even stocked with coffee and sundry of other things. It was quite and relaxing! Just what we were looking forward to! Our whole family (3) helped with the farm chores each morning: collecting eggs, & feeding the chickens, goats and cows. We even tried our hand at milking the goat! We hope to come back to Hen's Tooth Acre Farms in the spring or summer to see the baby goats and cows!
My family and I only stayed for 3 nights at Hens Tooth Acres Farm but I wish we could have stayed longer. It is absolutely beautiful and one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever taken. Farmer Fred is amazing with children. He is very patient and kind. He teaches them about the farm animals and allows them to participate in the farm chores. Our 6 year old son did not want to come home. He told us he wanted to move into the apartment at Farmer Fred's house. It is definitely worth your time and money to stay here. We will most definitely be back and have already started talking about our next trip here.
The farm had all that you needed and was completely cozy. Fred was so good with Sierra. He showed her how to handle the eggs from the hens, how to milk the goats, how to feed apples to "Vadar" the horse, and she loved the baby chicks and lastly the friendly sheep dog "Max". She waited for Fred every morning and evening to do the chores. Once we left the place she said "can we come back again"
If for any reason you are the fence about staying don't be you will not be disappointed.
Thanks again Fred for a wonderfull time. Rob, Jo and Sierra
Our stay at Henstooth Acres was incredible! We have a daughter who loved helping with the morning and evening chores! We loved feeding Vader some apples too! Fred is wonderful and very accommodating. Thank you so much for having us. We felt right at home during our stay. Very relaxing.
We've been back to the grind now for several days, but I can't stop daydreaming about our time at Hen's Tooth Acres! Within hours of our arrival, our 6 year-old son said he wanted to come back every year. I can't say I blame him; we'd love to make this a family tradition. We loved being outside relaxing, watching the animals graze, or swinging on the hammock. The kids absolutely loved helping out with the farm chores. We would have been content to stay on the property the whole time, but we did venture out to Tweetsie and Doc's gem mining. Our daughter, 3 years, loved her "Goldilocks" bed, and we had everything we needed in the apartment. The fresh eggs, garden veggies, and homemade soaps were an added bonus. Farmer Fred was so sweet and patient to show us the ropes of farm life and taught us a whole lot. To echo another reviewer, we call it our new "happy place" as well! We've told everybody we know about this magical, mountain getaway. We've made priceless family memories that I know we will add to in the future. Thank you for sharing Hen's Tooth Acres with all of us!
My family spent several days here at the farm. It was very relaxing. I particularly enjoying talking with Fred about his farm experiences. He is a quite simply a lovely person who seems to love his animals and farm. I really enjoyed collecting eggs and milking a goat for the first time. The 2 bedrooms served us well and were very quiet. There was a cot available that my son used to sleep in the living room. Kitchen is well stocked. My husband did see 2 bears a ways down the road so be careful. There is a trail that you can hike on the property. This is a country rustic property which we really enjoyed. Farm is an easy drive from Boone, Blowing Rock, and Valle Crucis. Apartment got a bit hot in the afternoon due to extreme temperatures and currently there is no air conditioning. It wasn't a big deal though as we simply pulled the shades and put box fan in the window. Fred provided excellent customer service. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us.
Year round activities make historic Valle Crucis an excellent vacation destination or simply a great place to get away.
